And so another Halloween is over with nary a trick or treater. I did seem to delight my neighbor when I went out for something in my Wednesday costume and she (and her dog) caught me on the way back, so that's something.

I spent yesterday trying hard not to crash and when I finally did allow myself to nap, I couldn't. :P Figures. Luckily for me, the JOL Widget and I carved on Monday was still good (and still is) so that saved me several hours of tedium. It was dreary and overcast yesterday, so trying to time the lights was more difficult and when I did go out to finally turn the lights on outside, it was drizzling. Luckily that tapered off so I didn't have to worry about the blue/green light that I'm not sure is meant for outdoor use. Huzzah.

I debated what to watch for my Halloween evening tradition, but ultimately had it down to two options:
a) Supernatural for the spooky factor and because I've been meaning to go back and rewatch/catchup finally.
b) Psych Halloween episodes.

I went with Psych because sometimes you want to laugh and be creeped out and Psych does a decent job of juggling the two at times. Mums didn't complain, so either I've finally worn her down or she might be enjoying herself?

Today was nice and chilly (and breezy!) so I went for another walk to try and finish the Audible: Slayers story. I didn't finish it on my walk because I decided against walking to the fancy part of the neighborhood (just didn't have it in me to do it again and the sun was too bright) but I did finish it later at home.

I actually really enjoyed a lot of it. I'm not gonna say it was perfect, because it wasn't. There's a decided warm-up time for actors to slip back into accents and voices and fight scenes are definitely more of a visual medium but I found myself grinning and snickering to myself (at the parts you're meant to for the laughing) a LOT. Charisma and Juliet in particular seemed to really be enjoying themselves and I thought Indira (the new character) was really well done. I went looking for the answer to something that actually IS answered at the very, very end but I still had five minutes or so left and found that there's a very vocal segment of people who did not enjoy this in any way.

It was very much that Community Troy walking back to a dumpster fire in his apartment scenario for me because people are brutal in how much they didn't like it. o_O

But my favorite (and please, please sense all the sarcasm here) is how annoyed people are that a lot of the characters didn't act the way they thought they should. In a story set primarily in an alternate universe/reality. I'm sorry, what? Spike, Clem, and Giles are the only characters we should really be familiar with as is, and it's been twenty or so odd years since we last hung out with them. (No. I'm not counting the comics. I'm not sure if this is either.) Everyone else is a new character or a different version of them, so...

I need another go round of this, please and thank you. You can keep Willow where she is if you want, but I need to follow that last bit of storyline we semi-cliffhangered on, ok?

My issues, since it's easier to discuss what's wrong versus the good stuff:
The warm up time for everyone finding their character's literal voice is an issue for some. Spike and Anya for sure have issues. Dru comes and goes at points but is generally pretty solid. ASH going for Giles sounding tired and weary is a choice but it doesn't last forever and it's at least a choice. I love Tara, but the voice work here is probably the weakest of the main cast... or my expectations were higher for her than anyone else? Charisma's got Cordy down to a science and I'm not loving the people grabbing their pitchforks at the audacity of an AU having Cordy as a slayer. Did they miss certain episodes of the original series? It works. I did find it interesting they changed her background a bit for the AU but the character still has a lot of the same quirks and mannerisms and is still recognizably Cordelia.

Whoops, went into a like. Um, to my not great ears, it can be hard to tell the difference between some characters, which is a weird place to find yourself.

Mr. Pickles was a choice and a half and I didn't hate him but I also could have been just fine without him.

If one took a shot each time "best friend" was said in the first few episodes, one would die. But at the same time, my heart, she gets it.

Okay, apparently it's not easier to talk about what I didn't like. So. Back to what I did. I enjoyed Tara's descent into black magic and her struggle with what's going on. I loved the idea of the backstory of Cordy's world and I loved how Indira managed to fit in.

The reminder that Dru isn't as insane as she pretends, though she's by no means sane.

Spike's entire storyline after he hooks up with Dru. I know I said spoilers but I'm trying to keep things vague in case you're just here to see if the general idea/premise/execution might work for you. I was pretty sure it was going to shake out one way but there's definitely the feeling that maybe, just maybe...

Anyway. I'd like more, please and thank you.
