Well, it's been a long, long time since I got to work and had to almost immediately leave due to period shenanigans. Jesus Christ.

Sigh. On the plus side, I now have time to read the new SVT graphic novel (still cheering over the cast list in the back!) which I've been dragging my feet on because woof, the art is worse than I anticipated. I took a picture of one of the pages as I was on the phone with Cass when it arrived and she gave me a "wtf" response. It's... I feel bad when I say artwork is bad, but ... well, maybe I'll like it more when I read it. I just don't think that's gonna happen, based on what a painful downgrade we get from Nora at the end of the previous GN and the Nora of this.

But at least it's not the final GN. Just pissed that Nora got the short end of the stick. DAMMIT.

Soooooooooo... I hate the way the artist chose to portray Nora for, like, 90% of the book. I didn't absolutely love Nora at the end but I did like her and had I not seen what the first artist had done with her, I probably would've been okay with the look. I freely admit that Nora's my random ass C-list SV resident that I love far too much to be reasonable in regards to. But when I read the blurb on the back about the artist and it said "this is their first graphic novel" my brain's first response was and it shows.

I will admit that the picture that first made me (and Cass) go WTF made a little more sense in context once I realized what I was actually looking at but it was still... weird. Not chewing gum in the face, not weird duck lips, but Jess trying to hold her scrunchie in her mouth.

I liked most of the costumes that showed up in the last bit (hey, Sailor Moon!) and I actually think clown!Amy and clown!Liz were cute as hell, but the Unicorns all looked unfinished and not quite right. I don't really like Lila's look for the graphic novels (the oddly blunt bangs/ponytail don't work for me) and this one was particularly not great. 80's blonde bully Bruce is still not MY Bruce and still just looks wrong and I will probably choose to at least be wounded on this hill.

There are also moments where the proportions are off and I mean way off. 11/12 year olds are still kids but they aren't little kids and if we're going for chibi stuff, the proportions were still off.

I feel like an asshole but it's not a case of "ugh, this person isn't talented at all!" It's more they had the misfortune to be starting their graphic novel journey with a character/story I actually love and their work is still being polished.

Which is the nicest way I can put it because yeah, disappointed by the art here more often than not.

And I also have time to debate whether I want to fight the crowds for the MH general public launch of Wednesday and Morticia (I think they're cute and I love Tish) or finally dip my toes in the world of Mooncat polish.

I've been eying a few for awhile but I don't know how I'll feel about the handle. It seems to be very love it or hate it, both from an aesthetic and practical side. I know some who hate the look but love how it feels and some who love how it looks but hate trying to use it, so... who knows. I don't hate the look but I also don't love it and I don't know how I'll feel about using it. I've got me a wishlist that I started before I knew they were doing a sale, and I've got a mockup cart, which I've been trying to whittle down. The problem is Mooncat fans make Holo Taco fans look rational, so trying to sort out which polishes live up to the hype and which are better left to the imagination (and tricky photo edits) takes effort. Like House of Hades is one that everyone and their hamster mentions, but as much as I think the glow is pretty, I don't think I love that it's flakes? I've also got Rue Morgue in my cart though it doesn't look as pretty on the site BUT it's been on my wishlist the longest because I saw swatches of it and it was amazing soooooooooo. On the plus side, I have figured out that some of those in my cart are likely to live up to the hype.

I might've allowed myself to just go a bit nuts if not for the fact that one of my actual indies is dropping a huge summer collection and I love far too much. Plus side, no real dupes. Wait, that's not a plus because then I'd save money. G'ah. But it won't require fighting to the death while Mooncat and Monster High will.

Okay, off to work on laundry.

Went ahead and made my Mooncat order, so we might as well discuss the reasoning:

I'm a MF Supernova is the one I'm most on the fence about. I'm looking for a good gold holo glitter polish and this looks like it could be the one. I saw a couple of live swatches where it looks pretty damn perfect for what I'm looking for, but I've also seen pics that make it lean into dirty gold and mmm, not my thing. So this is my longshot.

Shroomdom is the second MC polish I saw and went hey, maybe? It's been in the back of my mind ever since. I'm relatively confident that I'll love this one.

Plankton is one of those where every picture makes it seem worth it and I'm pretty sure I don't have anything similar. I do love me a good green polish.

Not Today Satan is probably the color I've got the closest dupe for, but I did want to try one of the polishes they're known for and I really do love a good pink linear holo for when I want something a step above neutral.

River Styx is another I'm sure will live up to the pictures, though unlike Plankton, there's a better shot I might have a dupe or dupe adjacent color. But the NAME. Okay, fine, you got me, that's also why I got Not Today Satan. Say what I will about MC, but their showmanship is right up there.

Rue Morgue is the first MC polish I decided I wanted. The pics on the site don't really do much to sell it, but it's a carryover from their previous incarnation (Live Love Polish) and it just looked so pretty in someone's video that I've been wanting it ever since. I also enjoy random matte polishes. Blue!

Ghost Ship is the most recent release and a) the name (and movie flashbacks) and b) the color meant I had to add it. It also fulfills my requirements for magnetics (namely, I need to love it in the unmagnetized state and at least like it magnetized) and I'm sorry, but if you thought I was going to put in an order and not have a single purple polish, you clearly were being silly.

Decided on this selection as it gave me a variety of finishes and with the sale, it's pretty much cheaper than buying polishes at work and none of these are colors/shades/finishes I could buy in store. At least, not my store. :P I did want one of their thermals but we've already entered Satan's Armpit temps so I think I'll wait and see how I like these. Or at least until after I attempt to grab my MH fix.

Youch! I'm not sure I realized there was going to be an artist change at this point. Now I'm a lil afraid to read it, even though I'm strictly library reading with this series.

I love the last 3 polishes on your list! (River Styx, Rue Morgue, Ghost Ship). Man, I miss the thrill of a good polish hunt.
