impy: TJ from Recess wondering WTF? (TJ wtf)

Dear future!me,
If the weather and everything works, please be awake for late afternoon sunshine on your days off. It's been too long and you need that in your life before we slam totally into the winter darkness. I am not one of those people who complains about it being dark because 3rd shift, duh. But I do love late in the year late afternoons and with my sleep schedule I'm frequently not awake for them and I neeeeeeeeeeeed it.

Thought I had maybe made it through the TMI portion of my weekend struggles but apparently in the time between 8pm and 8:58pm, my body began to plot against me once more. Which is extra rude since I was only up and moving around at 8 because I had a fucking leg cramp. RUDE.

For the most part I sat out the holiday sales. I went to try and take advantage of AG's Cyber Monday deal but Affirm and AG weren't working for me properly so I decided I'd sit it out since it clearly wasn't meant to be. Woe. Maybe they'll have another sale before my reward expires. *shrug*

It's a good thing I didn't really partake in the polish sales going on over the weekend as I gather a LOT of indie makers had shitshows for their BF/SBS/CM weekend, though none as well publicized as GLL. GLL was such a shitshow that it totally distracted me from the one sale I'd actually planned to try and take part of. D'oh. Not that I was shopping GLL (I love them but I've seen how quick their small batches go initially. No thanks.) but the fallout was... a lot.

The very short version I've been able to cobble together is this:
Great Lakes Lacquer was set to do their Black Friday sale Friday at 9pm. Included were small batches of some polishes that she was very upfront about likely selling out ASAP so if you wanted them, you should go through checkout one at a time so you had a chance at getting your most wanted without others selling out and borking your cart in the meantime. She also mentioned that she'd do her best to bring them back in the future and based on her track record, she's been really good at doing that in the past. To the degree that I would very likely never try to 1980's Cabbage Patch fever my way through a SB sale.

And yet people did.

I'm pretty sure they all sold out in under a minute. This, btw, is why I avoided indie polishes for YEARS. I do not have time for this kind of fuckery, nor do I want to. I'm pissed enough when I have to entertain this BS for dolls; I'm not doing it for nail polish. I've braved the thunderdome a couple of times for BKL prior to their closing/relaunch, and for WFL when I was foolish enough to skip a preorder window and fell in love with a polish after, and HT's Safiya collab was also a bloodsport thing, but to a lesser degree. Anyway, don't like it, don't engage often.

So. SB sold out. Very sad. Turns out that her webhost/shop did some fuckery and some people had multiple holds for orders they'll never get. We're talking triple holds, which really fucked people over. I won't say charges because they weren't, but they were holds, which meant that if you were splurging on a little treat and had budgeted very carefully to the cent, you were pretty much fuuuuuuuuuuuuucked for the weekend.

Thing is, people were still very nice to the maker about all this. I think in all the posts I saw about this, I saw maybe two that crossed a line. I won't say I didn't miss others, but they weren't running rampant. There were a billion posts about how someone missed out and was disappointed, especially those who didn't get anything at all, but they weren't rude about it. I really wish groups would just have one big "Yay!" thread and one big "Wah!" thread, especially those who don't want customer service issues brought before the group. It'd make it so much easier and cleaner. Sigh. Anyway, I got immediately tired of all the wannabe whiteknights trying to make it seem like anyone who wasn't over the goddamn moon about the release was somehow kicking the maker while she was down. (She is, in fact, down; her mother died this year and that'll do it every time.) The wannabes were so much worse than the people venting, to the point that some of the dumbasses were fucking tagging the maker in threads she'd very likely never see simply because of how busy the damn group was at that point. Don't tag someone while bemoaning how bad she'd feel if she saw the thread in question! Who does that, you fucking asshole? Let people vent!

Let me be clear, the venting I saw first and foremost, hours before the rest, was about simply missing out on the polishes they wanted. It wasn't until Saturday morning I realized people were financially fucked, at least temporarily. I had to check out of the various posts about this real quick because again, the wannabes were being such assholes about, "well, if you don't have the money, you really shouldn't be taking part in the launch, now should you?" BITCH, THE FUCK? It's one thing to set aside $50/$100 on a splurge and another to have your bank put a hold of TRIPLE that because someone's shop glitched out. That's not the customer's fault! People are allowed to buy nice things, even if they're not swimming in money. What the actual fuck is wrong with you people? I really, really fucking hope someone called those people out about it, along with the asshates tagging the maker in threads she didn't need to be tagged in. I just couldn't go back and look.

Partly because the maker, who runs the FB group, paused comments on it while she looked into the BTS fuckery and crafted an apology for said fuckery. Honestly, I mostly don't blame her for anything more than not switching hosts/shops sooner, but since I don't know anything about that side of things, it's like a 1% kind of blame. And I'm also gonna give her like 5% for not just issuing a FB statement of, "I'm aware of the hold issues right now, I'm working to see what's going on, please email me at ___ instead of posting on FB where your issue could/probably will get lost." If you're gonna have a launch that late, you've gotta accept you'll be up late dealing with the fallout if things go tits up, y'know? But the rest? Nah. So long as she's not a bitch about it (and she hasn't been), you gave warnings about what you could and are working on what you can.

The fact that she wasn't even close to the only maker who had similar technical issues is just the cherry on the sundae of fuckery going on.

I'm sure I missed some things but I couldn't deal with the whiteknighting BS without chancing rolling my eyes clear out of my skull.

Ever so thankful that some shops decided fuck it, we're doing BF early and then did. My Olive Ave order showed up Saturday and while it was small, I think I love each polish. One I'm on the fence about because I'm worried it's a dupe of one I realized I don't love on me after all, but that's on me. The rest just made me stupidly happy to see, and even that one I remember really wanting for some reason I don't recall right now. *muse* Went through my HT order Sunday in between issues and oh, my glob, so pretty. My WFL order should be here tomorrow and that'll be it. I was good and sat out the rest, though I did seriously consider an ILNP order for much of the day. I also considered, briefly, a Mooncat order but decided their whole exploding bottle issue just wasn't something I wanted to chance. Next sale, I suppose.

Now. Do I find a cheesy Christmas movie to watch or go to sleep? Decisions!
