impy: Lorelai Gilmore making her forks fight with the text 'Take That!' (crazy)

And now for something entirely not related to the weather, other than kind of wishing I'd thought to go through my books during my snowdays.

I've woken up around 1:30am the past couple of days, which works for letting me have the illusion of sleeping while under a blanket of snow but also not being too far removed from my normal schedule. Annnnnyway, before braving the downstairs where it's chilly, I've been playing some games and today I decided to put on a video while I ditzed around. Because I enjoy keeping my algorithms confused, I don't log in to my YT on my Kindle, so it'll show me people/things I don't necessarily see on my phone/computer. The distance shrinks every so often, so I wound up with a book-type recommendation and I mean... how could I resist the lure of someone talking about what they wish they'd known before scanning in their entire library?

My interest, you have enough of it that I ignored what I could of my game while still playing. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it basically boiled down to two things:
1) People really will do ANYTHING to avoid using LibraryThing, huh
2) Scanning things is fun and I get that.

I will say that as I was watching/listening, I kept thinking about LT a lot, so when my game stalled out, I pulled up the comments and learned that she's definitely selling something she's using in the video (tbf, I'm pretty sure she says as much, and there's a free version of it anyway) and that "Library thing also lets you set up book cases so when you look up a book you get all of the info PLUS where it is in your house to which I say, self, look into this ASAP. Not right now, because you're making cupcakes and you will definitely fall down a rabbit hole and they'll burn, but like... in the future. It's not as much of a need for me/my books now, but should I attempt to tackle the LR books and stuff downstairs in general, like Mom's, then that would be very helpful.

I also was interested enough in her system (there are so many hoops that I am exhausted just thinking about it, but I am impressed with how thorough she is) that I watched part of the follow-up video (the one about the ultimate book tracker, it's the next video after this one) and part of my brain was absolutely soothed by how nitty gritty she was willing to get and part of my brain started screaming and is still screaming several hours later. Hence the post.

I will say that had I not already previously scanned in most of my books, she would've lost me at the inability for her scanning in system to properly handle duplicates because I am all about the multiple cover variations for certain things. Fine, fine, you caught me, I mostly mean SV. It still counts, dammit.

I should probably actually go through my LT sometime soon and add the books I've acquired since then, though a quick glance is showing me I'm not as behind as I thought, and then actually sift through and sort things into proper tags/collections. Not today though.

I should probably make breakfast and not think two quality check cupcakes count, right? Right.

LibraryThing is awesome, and free! Why people are actively against using it, who knows. I've added all of my books by hand, and it really is easier to do it as you go. But it is nice to have LT and amazon open when I need to go through my e-books.

IDK about putting where things are located in your physical house on LT, or how helpful that would be, but maybe that's because my filing system is pretty robust already.

Cupcakes don't count as breakfast? Says who? But then, I am babying a temp crown so I'm basically 100% soft foods right now, and I definitely had a slice of cake last night simply because it was soft enough to eat without chewing!

I swear, being able to pull up LT and see which books in a series I own is so damn satisfying

And helpful! More than once I have almost picked up another copy of a book I already have without meaning to. Plus, LT lets me see which book(s) I have in a series and which ones I'm still looking for, which is immensely helpful in the thrift hunt, especially!
