Day *counts* 5, going on 6 without AC

I am not loving this lack of AC shit, mmkay? I didn't love being woken up this morning when it FINALLY felt cool in my room for the first time since last Thursday by the one two punch of Widget making cleaning noises and then Cass calling to basically tell me we were still in a holding pattern for the great cell-switcharoo (more on that in a sec) and not catching the hint when I tried to point out that my room was finally livable but the absolute second I moved out of that ONE spot, I would immediately burst into flames.

It wasn't quite that bad but it was close.

I spent the day at home in the hopes that we'd hear something from the AC people or the landlords and neither happened. Hell, I was also waiting on the cell-switcharoo and it turns out we didn't even need the SIM cards that should've been here last Friday but weren't even shipped til Friday or Saturday (and it's a good thing because apparently they expire and the ones that showed up expired in April), so that was...fun.


It's hot, I'm miserable, and at 3am it shouldn't be 80-something inside and out. I'm tempted to go back outside and see if I can call the rain because holy fuck, I hate this. It's hotter now than it was before midnight. The fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.


Also, I started watching Yellowjackets and between the heat and the show, I may never eat again. Not smart, self.

But what's even better is that this afternoon I told myself I'd watch something comforting and less traumatic, so I went back to pick up where I left off in Poker Face only for it to be an episode in which a little kid accidentally kills the class gerbil doing a magic trick. A most violent death, no less.

I was less traumatized by the fucking plane crash and ensuing gory deaths on Yellowjackets. o_O

Why yes, I am going backwards in time here. I know your AC has since been fixed, but man I can commiserate on how awful it is to be summer in Deep South hell with no AC. It is absolutely awful. I basically survived by constantly having fans running to circulate the air, and I'd sleep with a wet towel on me so that I'd at least be cool when I fell asleep, even if it didn't last.

You can come up with some crazy shit when you need to!

Thank you for the reminder to tell my AC once again how much I missed it and to plead with it to never leave me again. So, so grateful that they fixed it before the heatdome heatwave thing tried to melt everyone. It being 90-something overnight was just uuuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhh.

For future reference, are we talking like hand towel on the forehead or like, full on towel drapped over you in a reverse of laying out by the pool? Inquiring minds need to know!

For the towel trick: I had a full-length bath towel, wet but not dripping, that I placed on top of myself because I sleep on my back, and a washcloth on my face. With the oscillating fan blowing on it (and me), it kept things feeling cool long enough for me to fall asleep. When I woke up, everything was completely dry LOL. I guess if I'd woken up in the middle of the night for some reason, I would've just dampened the towel/washcloth again.

The only thing worse than no AC is no AC *AND* no running water. My god, the old place was a total shithole!!
