have a drink, alcoholic
Aug. 30th, 2004 02:32 amThings that suck:
- Hurricanes
-Tropical Storms that do more damage than the freakin' hurricane. :p
-My Sunday.
Now, a futher explination of the list. Around 5:50am, my brother waltzed into the store. Which is odd since this makes the second time I've ever seen him there. Apparently the wonderkid, Allan, did not fix the truck properly, so he had to borrow wonderkid's car. Or something. Oh, and our power's been out for more than an hour. Joy. So I point out a new sale thing to the boy, buy some Halloween goodies when I get off work, the boy and I brave the rain and the wind and find out that half of James freakin' Island is without power. Just not the Walgreens side. Rar!
So, we enter the ghost town portion of the island and the wind is freakishly strong, and I'm just thinking, "oh. christ. If it's this bad now, what's the bridge gonna be like?" to which the boy cheerfully says that had Dad come in the truck, they probably wouldn't have let him across the bridge. Dunno how true this is, but hey, I don't doubt the bridges could have been/should have been closed. Anywho. Donuts with the boy @ Krispy Kreme. I paid since he overspent at work. Oops. Didn't care. Glazed donuts were more filling than my Halloween candy.
Home. No one got the mail from Saturday, so it was drenched. Erk. Rain was coming down sideways, the yard was going underwater, and no lights could be found. Argh. Trekked upstairs, started reading Tough Cookie by candlelight because I wasn't tired. Tried to sleep, it worked in a technical sort of way. I slept, but it was really crappy sleep. Woke up, tried to convince Mumsy to take the truck that was allegedly fixed to go get me some lunch. I offered to buy her something too. No luck. Spent some time Thomas-sitting, then realized I should call and check on Cass and Ari. This is where the day really began to hit the skids.
I thought of calling Ari first. But then decided I'd try Cass first for some reason I don't remember. I call. Get Cass. Who is in the middle of a fucking hurricane party. It becomes quite apparent she isn't listening to anything I say except when I asked if Ari was at home. [she was at work, which confused me since I thought Sundays were her days off. Oh well.] She was partying, man. Dude. Not much of a drinker, but christ if I wouldn't have said to hell with my normal reactions and gone over if she'd invited me and found a way there. But no. She let me off the line with a "I'll call back in a bit" lie, and poof.
So I called Ari. Who informed me that she's going to Florida today or was supposed to anyway. The fuck? No one tells me anything. Which was about the extent of our conversation.
So, I attempt to go back to bed when it's obvious I'm not getting any food, dammit. That was a bad idea. I think I dozed, sort of, and just as every part of my body had fallen asleep except my brain [which was well on the way], I hear my mother screaming for the dog. Who, I forgot to mention, had escaped at noon-ish. This was followed by Thomas parroting Mom. Sleep was impossible after this. Came downstairs, scared people because apparently my pupils were huge. Stupid lack of sleep. This drove the final nail in the coffin of me going to work Sunday night. No sleep + annoyance + day seven= disaster of epic proportions. Now I'm feeling sort of guilty. Anyway. Then got dragged out with Dad to find food. Only Dad kept swearing and the truck wasn't fixed, and I wanted so badly to say, "Why the fuck do you guys listen when the boy says he has a friend that can fix something? It NEVER works." But I didn't. I got my Taco Bell [mmmmmm] and then my father spooked me by asking if I ever felt like the whole world was against me. Yeah. Daddy ain't happy. :/ But he seemed better after eating, so I'm hoping it was low blood sugar. All this doesn't sound awful, I know, but no power? Not fun. I don't mind no power in winter as much. I'd rather freeze than fry and since no one has killed the wasps living in my windows, I can't open my window to cool down.
feeling happy, could be gay
maybe, but not today
Upon re-listening to Scream if you Wanna go Faster [zee album, god bless downloading], I think the only great points are Heaven & Hell and It's Raining Men [but that's more because I have a memory attached to it.] . Woe.
Headache. Thirsty. Bored now.
Oh. For those wondering, whatever the tropical storm was, Gaston or something, bitchslapped us, effectively doing more damage here than that stupid Charley dreamt of doing. [here] Soooo. Yeah. Scary when you didn't even really know there was a storm until the night before it hit. *smirks*
