"Do you want me to spend my last two dollars to come see you tomorrow?" in a voice that says "Please say no. But if you say no, then I'll be mad. But if you don't, I'll be broke. Please say no, but do it in a way so I can feel noble about making you decide."
Bah! Freakin' birthdays. I hate my birthday. Or rather, I hate the reactions to it. Why the hell can't people manage to remember it? Oh yeah, it's a summer birthday. No one ever remembers summer birthdays unless they have one too. I guess it's the years of not having to go to this person's birthday party because you were out of town on vacation while they had a party in the middle of summer, with no AC [because the power went out when the neighbors were installing their pool], and about ten kids, half of whom you didn't know, but they were in town, so who's complaining?
Grr. So, as you might have guessed, I have issues with the day I came into the world and how it's celebrated. I didn't used to. I used to love my birthday, even if I had to have a joint party with my brother [his birthday was yesterday, the 8th]. Or those years when the power would go out [yes, the neighbors were either installing a pool, or had just had that finished, so they weren't bothered at all], and yes, there would be ten kids, 7 of them I barely knew. But dude. presents and cake, and getting to be the center of attention! :D Or waking up really early and getting a fantastic present from my parents, or my grandfather, and getting to play with it all day long instead of having to wait until my cake sometime after dinner. Oh yes, life was good.
But now, not so much. Sigh. So, anyway. I gave broke friend the out she was obviously fishing for. I don't know if she'll take it or not though.
Tonight I get a birthday dinner with the family. Because the 9th is halfway between my birthday and the boy's. Wheeeee!
