The state of the union
Jan. 14th, 2010 10:53 amI thought I would let you know that it's still freakin' cold here. If it's cold enough to, in theory, snow, then I demand snow or that it warm up about five degrees. I'm perfectly happy at 40 degrees but this below thirty stuff is NOT FUN.
And those of you who are even colder? Duuuuuuuude.
But let's focus on something infinitely more important: Today I blew someone's mind when they found out how old I am. In a good way, I think? Mums picks me up at work and the nice newish girl up front asks if she's my mother. I say yes, she does the, "You don't drive?" thing and I point out that we've just got the one car (and the heater doesn't work, damn it!) and then she asks how old I am and I have to think about it. Which, I realize, makes me look like an idiot. Who the hell doesn't know how old they are?
But even though I get asked a fair bit, it still hasn't sunk in that I'm 28. See? Even typing it, it looks WRONG. And that's not because the number increases in July. Still, I don't think of myself as quite that old. She says no way, seriously, no way. Then she adds she thought I was around her age, which I ask and am told is nineteen, and even figuring in a couple of years on the older side, still. Score!
Annnnnnnd now I'm off to read and deal with the impending cramp in my foot. Owwie!
P.S.- Am growing ever so increasingly annoyed at having to read a daily blurb about Sanford being raked over the coals, still/again/for always, concerning his Argentinian mistress.
Don't we have massive amounts of stupid people in need of educating? People who should be put in jail for breaking laws like, I dunno, murder? A massive unemployment rate that keeps rising? Don't these people have better things to do than go after someone who is almost out of their way and has proven that he's never, ever, ever going to give them the satisfaction of quitting?
I'm not condoning his actions. I think he's a fuckwit of the highest order for this as well as his actual politics. I feel bad for his kids, knowing that their gene pool has that floating around in it. I'd feel bad for his wife only the general media is acting like she's the only woman in history of the world who did not stand by her man once he cheated on her and then called another woman his soul mate. Really? Did ANYONE aside from his kids possibly think she wasn't going to dump his ass for that, if nothing else? Cuz, yeah. Really. I'm sorry she was put through the wringer. I think once he proved that he was incapable of putting his job (no matter how poorly done it might be) ahead of his mistress, he should've resigned. But once it became really fucking obvious he wasn't going anywhere on his own, why did we spend the next six months ignoring everything else in favor of trying to burn him at the stake?
Good. Freakin'. Lord.
