I finally managed to see Deathly Hallows P1 and I'm honestly left wondering who loved this movie. It's moody as hell, I'll grant you that, and I imagine that for those who are so graphically inclined, it probably produces some amazing fanart. But as a cohesive story?

What in hell? 85% of the movie involves Hermione and Harry sitting around in the woods occasionally discussing how brilliant the other is, or how snitches have flesh memories.

The parts that linked all these scenes together in the book were pretty much yanked out and replaced with... "cut to H/H. In the woods. Probably cold. If Ron's there and it's before he flounces, have him glare menacingly. If it's after he's come back, have him be lovable. If he's not there, mope or dance."

I wonder if this worked better if I'd either never read the book or read it more recently?

I'm a bit late in this, but I'm going to use the excuse that it takes awhile for my muse to get back to me concerning the memos we leave one another. Comparatively speaking, this isn't late at all.

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] zallia's post this morning, I realized once again that a big part of my geekiness comes directly from my mother. I mean this in the best possible way. The first time I realized it, fully and completely as one can at sixteen or so, was when I recognized Brakiss as a Star Wars thing. I know, big stretch of the imagination for the internet, yes? But still. Mums instilled a love for the geekier side of life in me, whether she intended to or not. I get the warm fuzzies over Highlander*, Gargoyles, Who Wants to Live Forever, the X-Men, most comic books (trace it back to X-Men), Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, and quite a few other things.

I'm not really sure I can claim the same for myself in return. Still, it's funny the way things work out. My brother will whinge if you let him about how Mom's TV shows gave him serious nightmares and you ask me, and I'll say that I was pretty fond of most of them. I suppose it all depends on how you look at it.

*- Thing about Highlander is that I vividly remember Mums being upset about one of the characters dying and she was going on like this was a conversation I should have been tracking. I had no idea what she was talking about at all. To this day, I don't know if I just managed to not remember Highlander prior to that conversation or if she was mistaken in having watched the show with me before then.

So to Mums, if you're breaking protocol and reading this, well. Thank you for making me into the geek I am. ;)

I'll stop spamming... right after this.

Order of business the first: Cécile and Marie-Grace, the newest American Girl dolls, have had their book artwork leaked courtesy of calyndra. New Orleans, 1853. Yellow Fever. Huzzah! Wait. That sounds wrong. Whatever. General speculation leads many to believe Addy will be next on the chopping block. I personally think Molly and Emily are still toast first, and that next year will see Addy disappear.

Second order of business:
Nap time
I ordered Punzie when Disney was having their Make-A-Wish day. I think there was also free shipping, which helped a lot, too. Anyway, consider yourself challenged, [livejournal.com profile] zallia! Punzie is my most recent purchase/arrival, and now it's your turn. Feel free to go with your most recent or surprise me.

Seriously.
