Dynamics, people.
Jul. 2nd, 2011 01:54 pmSometimes, when I'm bored and avoiding putting off cleaning the catbox, I look at fandomsecrets. And then one of two things happens: I despair over humanity, or I chuckle myself to death.
Door #1, please. This is going to be quick because I'm hungry and I should be asleep and other, important things will be waiting til tomorrow because I want them to receive the care and attention they should. Anyway.
Someone is whinging about the lack of Gus/Shawn 'shippyness in Psych fandom. Their conclusion? It's because fandom is racist. If Gus were white, this would totally be the mother 'ship.
Disclaimer: I love Psych. But after being burned out in too many fandoms, I do not actively seek out new TV fandoms. Books and toys, yes. TV and music, not so much. The level of crazy contained within is usually outstanding. This being so, I do not know how the Psych fandom works or how they've divided their sandbox. But I've lurked in enough fandoms to form opinions and this one is setting off my "...I don't think you understand how these things work" meter. But I could be wrong.
A) Gus/Shawn is pretty much canon. Seriously.
B) Lassie/Shawn (as appears to be the 'ship they're alluding to stealing their 'shippy goodness) is the perfect storm of How to Launch A 'Ship. Hell, Lassie with anyone is enough to do that by virtue of his insanity. L/S = love/hate. THIS is what sets your fandom ablaze when it comes to fanatically 'shipping something.
C) Shawn/Gus is practically canon.
Usually I can cock my head to the side and see someone's side when they decide to inform the internet at large that someone is being unintentionally racist. I might not necessarily agree 100%, but y'know, I'm capable of peeking and seeing what the hell is going on in someone else's sandbox. This? Not so much. It's just the dynamics in play.
Seriously. Hate!sex trumps superclosebff!sex every time. Every. Single. Time. This is how things work. I'm not saying it's how it works for you (or me), or that guy over there, but it's definitely working for a large group of people.
*checks out when people go to the Scrubs references*
