Things that are weird, an ongoing list:
Nov. 15th, 2011 12:07 am As most of my friends are female, I am used to being one of the taller people in any given group. Not the tallest, because my best friends both married guys taller than I am. (If I'm wearing heels, they aren't that much taller. But I am never wearing heels.) Still, fairly tall. And a lot of the guys I work with? Also seem to be about my height, maybe an inch or so taller, if that. I'm not a giant, nor do I live among exceptionally short people. It's just... the way things seem to end up.
So it makes me pause and do a double take when I am the shortest person in a group. It's just... yeah, three people and two are guys, the girl is probably more likely to be the shortest, but it still feels wrong. :P That's right! I can't allow people those three seconds of being taller than me. I begrudge them that much. It's why I cried when I couldn't keep my asskicking boots in highschool. They pushed me above the six foot mark and it was awesome. I cried because the money that Mom was willing to spend on them (and had, in fact) I couldn't really let her since I'd rung up an insane phone bill. But they were Aussie accents!
Long story short: walking to the car in the dark, I was the shortest one for a change. It was weird.
Went to the bookstore Ari was talking about. I think I've literally dreamt about this place. Only in my dreams, it had stuff I would've killed for. As it was, it was really interesting. It was bigger than some of the smaller branches of libraries around here, and it had a lot of stuff. But sadly it was mostly lacking in the BSC (It had some, but I don't think any of it was on my "NEED" list) and I only saw two SVH books. Saw four Fearless books but they weren't in awesome condition and for three bucks I wanted more. (Don't judge.) The Christopher Pike books I found were only a buck each! Sadly, Ari claimed them all immediately. :P Since we were maybe three minutes into the hunt, I didn't put up much of a fight because I was hopeful. They also had a ton of AG books, but none of the super awesome ones at super awesome prices.
In the end I walked out with a couple of books for Widget, some 80 cent BSC: LS books, and two books for Mums that may or may not be Christmas presents. I want to go back when I have money so I can buy some Christmas books for Widget. I wasn't sure how expensive my small pile was so I didn't want to add to it all crazy like. Ultimately it looks interesting, but... who the hell do I have to kill to find the cheesetastic books of my youth? Seriously, I need to know because I will take them down.
Speaking of which, I wound up watching the first two episodes of Once Upon A Time. It's interesting and if my eyelids weren't halfway down, I'd watch the other two episodes now. I have two problems with it though, and both are on the fairytale side. One) Your Evil Queen on the fairytale side? She's not as much fun as she is on the Storybrook side. That's just... not right. And yes, this includes the second episode where she's marginally more awesome in fairytale world. Two) The FX. Seriously. You're ABC. Is it supposed to look fantastically fake and over the top or... ? Because if it is, I'll accept it as a poor style choice. If not, it's distracting.
