let the rain fall
Mar. 21st, 2012 09:57 amIt's been a little less than a week since our last peek in at the Pollyanna Project. Part of this is because posting every day seems a bit much and part of it is that I'm lazy. LAZY.
Sunday brought a rained out cookout and massive downpour that necessitated us stopping at Cassy's mother's while we waited the storm out. In theory this sounds like more fun than it actually was, but I do like the idea of a storm forcing you to take shelter til the rain clears enough to soldier on home. I don't usually have the time or the inclination to do it as much anymore, but for awhile I used to sit out on our back porch and just watch the rain come down, jumping each time the thunder would shake the house. When I was younger, my grandfather insisted all the TVs and phones and things be turned off, so you'd find yourself sitting and noticing how green everything gets in the middle of a really good spring storm.
Kid's Say The Darnedest Things:
"What's your butterfly's name?"
"Butterflies don't have names."
Everyone laughs at this and then, "Well, don't I look like a total dumbass now?"
Ah, other people's mothers.
I'm grateful Widget is no longer two and in that stage where kids run around and do everything you don't want them to do, like slam doors ("Please tell me that glass was already broken?") or going near the $4,000 quilt in the room ("Come sit over here, way over here because Mommy cannot afford a $4,000 quilt. No, no, Mommy cannot.") or sitting on your shoulders and smacking you around. Nope, I might've been shocked to realize he's getting taller while I'm not looking (...yes.) but I don't think I could handle another young toddler anytime soon. :P
The numerous snickers and actual laughs from Mums when she saw the Meet the Beat-Alls episode of PPG was pretty much priceless. The fact that Widget was howling too? Oh yeah, excellent use of my funds ... a gazillion years ago.
