Oh, hullo, teevee
Mar. 5th, 2013 02:12 pmThe surprising television show of my year is The Carrie Diaries. I wasn't ever that big into Sex & The City and the couple of times I tried to pick up one of the books, my brain screamed and braincells rallied against them. I'm not a huge AnnaSophia Robb fan (her name alone, guys! The littlest things drive me batty, I guess.) and my expectations for the show were non-existent.
Still, the 80's. And as I've mentioned before, the show's pilot was pretty good. The series has been progressing nicely and it happens to be pulling off one of my favorite things ever: holiday episodes! We've had Halloween and Thanksgiving, plus the first day back to school and a winter holiday dance/trip to The Nutcracker. I love holiday episodes and... I kinda love this show. I love Maggie, Mouse, and Walt. A little Larissa goes a long way but she's still fun, and young!Carrie is way more interesting than adult Carrie. I may be the only person on planet earth to like Dorrit and as far as love interests go, Sebastian is pretty spiffy.
Not a huge fan of the obvious Manhattan is Carrie's man bits because, um, duh and also Donna. I feel horrible each time I think it, but Chloe Bridges tends to look absolutely terrifying. I think she'll end up being gorgeous when she's older if she avoids plastic surgery but right now this show is doing her no favors. o_O Other people like her henchgirls, the Jens, but I... do not care enough.
Anyway, if you've got time to kill, I really suggest this one. Not sure how it compares if you were a big Sex fan, but otherwise it's a good show. Also, I love Maggie's sweaters. Expect a pic-spam of that sometime.
Also of note was last night's episode of Switched At Birth which was done mostly in ASL (one of the two main characters is deaf) and I caught half of it last night. The music was a bit odd but I imagine it was done to a) be background music and b) assure people who missed the first half of the show (and thus the bit at the start of it) that their televisions were not broken, it was just sans dialog for much of the show.
Sorta like Hush without the demons. :P
