An assortment of things, really.
May. 28th, 2013 06:43 amYou know that sock-bun craze that's been going around? No? Me either. I had to hear about it on the AG forum and then I finally understood what those stupid Hot Buns things at work (that apparently break before you can use them) are. So. I found one of my many holy socks and experimented for science! And it actually worked pretty well. My hair's been up in one pretty much all afternoon (and much of the morning and most of yesterday). Practice makes perfect in this case, and I don't think I could manage it if I was looking in a mirror as this is mostly a "by feel" king of thing.
But when I was looking at the back of the bun (to see if you could see the sock) I noticed something. I have a mole on the back of my neck that I never, ever knew about. o_O So I panicked because HOLY CARP. Where did it come from? How? WHY? HOW DID I NOT KNOW?! *flails* So. I ask Mums and she's all, "This one? Or this one?"
To which I panic again because WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S A SECOND ONE?!
"Forever. You've always had them. Well, maybe not always, but as far back as I can remember."
They just happen to live in spots one cannot see without the dual mirror trick and since my hair is usually down in a braid or flying free or something I wouldn't be able to see it with a mirror anyway. Weird.
Very, very weird. >_<
Packed some more. Found some Fergie stuff for
luxken27. Gonna kill some more magazines later. I wish I were throwing more stuff out at this point but I'll take what I can get. Finally tunneled to the white dresser that will not be moving with us, emptied it, and have begun stacking boxes on it. Soon they will go in front and the peasants will rejoice. Huzzah!
The lightbulb in my Scentsy warmer for the bathroom died. WOE. Funny that it wasn't one of the ones that would stay on for weeks at a time.
... I think it's time we had a toy talk, guys.
First of all, next month is when the new AG stuff comes out. I haven't heard much, though I do gather we'll be seeing mini Saige-paints-the-sky-red-with-blood! and intel suggests that perhaps the minis will be having their world expanded. Otherwise, thus far it's been quiet. Too quiet. Remind me that I need to buy Saige's earrings for Ivy as they've taken all the other earrings off the market.
Next up, Monster High. I've been a little blah lately. I'm still woefully behind on these and I haven't really got the money to catch-up (freakin' vet bill!) and I was all ready to discuss Wydowna the SDCC release but then they made it known she was the Power Ghouls variant and I got distracted and... now it's a discussion of a different flavor.
I will still be calling her AJ because it's easier to type. I wants her. I think everyone who even begins to say, "well, considering how unpopular she seems to be/isn't the Basic/Signature version/whatever, maybe she won't be as crazy with the scalpers" is deluding themselves. Know what last year was? Last year was the very meh Scarah and a meh version of HooDude. The general interest level seemed to be set at, "So when do the fall dolls hit again?" And that stupid set caused actual tears to be shed by people who don't normally cry in their attempts to secure a set. So no, I don't think AJ is going to be easier to catch by virtue of people saying, "ick, a spider."
(I wants her. I wants her bad.)
Let's talk Equestria Girls. There was that trailer for the movie (I seriously thought this was just going to be a TV movie thing) and... I ain't impressed. It appears to be something I expected (Twilight goes through some portal mirror thing and ends up in a universe where there are rainbow people and not ponies) combined with some serious Do Not Want in the form of "she meets people versions of her friends only they aren't necessarily her friends, just people who act like them because this isn't weird at all!" and there's a Guy and a Dance and High School and Twilight is all confuddled about being a people!
... Where do I begin with this? Because it appears there isn't much room allotted in the middle ground between "Let girls have girlie things!" and the tears of the bronies.
But I'll try to explain. I don't think there's anything wrong with Boys and Dances and High School. I adore many a thing set in HS with boys and dances and all that comes with the HS setting. I do. And I understand why it's the natural choice for something you're trying to sell to young girls. As a kid I was absolutely fascinated by the idea of high school. I get it.
However, let's look at the source material here. Rarity does not live with her parents (who are very much alive and raising her younger sister, Sweetie Belle) because she lives in her own house, with her own business, and I'm assuming she is, in ponyville, a grown-ass adult. She might not be old (perish the thought!) but she's obviously at least late teens/early twenties in people years.
AJ helps run her family's farm in a very hands-on way. Also, the tale of Rainbow Dash's first sonic rainboom lets us know that everyone is about the same age except for Fluttershy. Fluttershy is a year older.
Adults, k? Younger than parent age, but still adults. I could buy Twilight as being a little younger as she's still in school, sort of, except I suspect Twilight is one of those characters who would forever still be in school because she's got a thing for learning.
So, this portal? Is a step backwards.
Still! I figured it would just be some alternate reality where I could ignore it for the most part except there would be dolls! Because there's no other reason for a toy company to do something like this without there being some sort of product, y'know?
I signed on this morning and was greeted by this:

Oh my word.
What did they do to you, Rarity? Why does Pinkie Pie look like she will kill you when you sleep? That hat is hideous, AJ!
After about ten minutes of staring and then looking away, I thought to myself, "well. I like the wings. The wings are super cute."
I scroll down and read that this is just a proto and that the ears and wings are going buh-bye.
The wings are about the only thing I like and you're taking them... away. I... wtf, Hasbro. Wtf?
But the ears are going too, so really it'll be a different thing and why am I looking at this again?
I just don't even know.
