I'm pretty sure I qualify as an adult after today. :P

I signed up for my insurance next year and this year was pretty friggin' complicated because instead of choosing between Baby Bear, Mama Bear, and Papa Bear, there were also some cousins and grandparents thrown in just to fuck with me. Walgreens opted to go with a mini version of what the national healthcare exchange was, ideally (?) supposed to be like. In this case, it was like, eight companies (in my case more like three because apparently California needs five options just for their own state?) that got whittled down to three for my purposes. And then you got to choose between various tiers of coverage and it was a really complicated version of the same thing we've done every other year.

I suppose it would have been easier/harder for me if I saw a doctor on a regular basis or took any prescriptions as those, I'd wager, are the big deal breakers. As it was, I didn't go with the absolute cheapest in medical because I'm a bit paranoid, but the option I did choose was cheaper than what I pay now and, as near as I can tell, pays for the same stuff. Went for the more expensive (but not most) for dental because it seemed a better deal if one actually wound up needing anything beyond a cleaning done (and I'm sure I will for once) but really, the fun part was the vision section.

That's where I actually went through to see what differences and which providers were there. (I did with dental but the dentist I prefer doesn't take any of these and hasn't taken any that I've ever been offered at work and I really need a new dentist, huh?) I also ponied up for the most expensive vision care they offer because it'll actually cover the cost of getting new glasses. Finally. So, despite more than doubling what I was paying for vision, I still managed to save $10 a paycheck!

The fact that I am so excited about this is proof of adulthood, right?

The part where I immediately began to think of all the ways I could spend an extra $20 a month and most of those options being toys probably eradicated the adult thing though...
