impy: (viktor)
I'd like to say I have been up to fun stuff, but mostly my brain has just been firing a thousand different things all at once so then I essentially just go as close to numb and dumb as possible. Work sucks (there's a whole rant typed up that made me feel better typing it up but I don't know that I'd feel better posting it?), everything is stupidly expensive, people suck, and I'm just tired of everything feeling like the difficulty mode is set to "cry now and forever, bitch."

Plus side after a serious negative: I forgot to cancel a free trial thing, got charged but then got my refund (threw myself on the mercy of the app/google) before the initial charge even made it out of pending. Huzzah! So like, a day of panic and then a day of relief.

I've been watching The Way Home on Hallmark+ (thanks, Hoopla) and S1 especially hit the nostalgia buttons so hard. S2 a little less so, but only in that they hopped around more in time (it's a time travel show) and we spent more time in other time periods. Still solid nostalgia feels though. The downside is that I cry entirely too much watching the damn show and kinda feel emotionally raw after/during if I watch too many episodes. I'm not sure how much of that is the show and how much of that is my own personal baggage just choosing to make itself known. :p BUT, the cat does give cuddles if I watch enough episodes in a row, so it's a trade-off.

In nail polish world news, HT made good on their threat/promise to do a second round of retirements and in a troll move did so on Nail Polish Day. :P It's funny looking at the list of potential polishes that people were thinking would get the axe versus what actually did get sent to the gallows. Since I went through round 1 here, might as well do round 2?

They announced the retirements were coming over the weekend and then around 11am they threw the returning polishes* and the retirement stuff online. Let's review, shall we? Not sure of any of the official reasons why these are going, but we'll speculate.

12 polishes got the axe and of those, I own 8. Of the remaining 4, I have an irrational hatred of 2 of them, only really like the name for one, and until mid-May, thought I owned the other 1.
I own Indigo Away... actually, lemme double check that. Yes, yes I do. I'm guessing this is a case of pigment sourcing issues since it's been out of stock for eons and only got restocked yesterday.

I own Iron Violet and we're gonna talk about Pink Steel here since they're both part of the Chrome collection that only a handful of us actually really seemed to like. The rest of the haters can fuck off because these really are one coaters and are beautiful and I love them and for all everyone's like "you can get chromes for cheaper elsewhere!" I get a little vexed. Moreso now than when these came out, because for awhile the Sally Color Foil line did this concept but with more shades, but that's been discontinued, I think, and look, I love LA Colors for their price point, but the foil I picked up was not a chrome, it was a shimmer. As a metallic polish ho, they are not the same. Will I try some of the others? If I can find them, sure. But my point is that chromes cycle in and out of fashion and this is a crime since they are beautiful ALWAYS. Sigh. These might've also had pigment issues, actually. Anyway, justice for the chromes that you could throw on and be out the door in under 5 minutes.

Tax Haven hurts because in the HT lineup, she's pretty unique. I'm not sure if the problem is that people don't like metallic-y looking polishes (whyyyyyyyyyy), don't like browns, or if it's because this came out in a summer collection and the collective went "bitch, wtf?? This is a fall polish and you know it." I am a little surprised it's going, but not totally since y'all are cowards.

Beach Please is from the same collection and while I do not get the appeal, I know her time has been numbered since basically the fall after her release because she looks like ASS on so many people. "The perfect white sandy beach polish!" only goes so far, people. I did cave last winter during that sale and bought her because I honestly thought it was getting retired for the new year. (I will say, in bottle it's prettier in person than I anticipated.)

Rest in Peach has a fun name but I don't do cremes all that much and I don't think this would look good on me at all. Not surprised as it's a bottom seller.

Jam Session is one of the two I looooooooooooooathe. I think it's ugly as fuck and it's because of the contrasting shimmer. It's hard to tell in this picture, but it's a warm coral polish with a cool pink shimmer and it's the visual equivalent of nails on a chalkboard for me. (Only I don't have a problem with the chalkboard thing, but you get the idea.) I'm not a huge crushed holo fan in general and the contrasting shimmers for the Rock Candy collection pissed me off since we were so close to getting a pretty crushed holo rainbow collection and instead got one where half the polishes have been retired already. Yes, I realize me saying I don't like the formula all that much and then complaining about not getting a rainbow collection is weird but I am weird. Seriously though, this one I irrationally hate and I do mean hate. Imagine me cackling with delight as this one gets retired, k?

Sonic Unicorn Skin makes me sad because it was the first US I wanted because of the blue over dark colors, but it looks piss yellow on light colors so I get why it's been a terrible seller. Sigh.

Orbite Me also hurts because the name alone is worth keeping it for. I don't remember if I've worn this, actually, but if not, I might have to do a skittle with this and Tax Haven to mourn them properly.

Need I Say Mocha? is another surprise, but less so than it would've been prior to the New Year's data stream where she said it was one of the worst sellers in general and for the Barista bundle. People are insane because it's pretty and this collection is one of the best uses of the crushed holo formula and if you need me, I might be adding Mocha to that skittle I mentioned a second ago.

Sunset Simulation is the other irrationally hated shade. Look, I think it's ugly on so many people. It's weirdly muted and just *shudder*. This collection (Lite Mode) was so odd but the other polishes from it are actually stunning in person but I just don't think I could do this one. Encryption Key was prettier and this is the hill I will take you down on, btw.

That leaves Peach Tea as the polish I really thought I owed already. I'm guessing I had it in my cart during a sale and chucked it in favor of something I wanted more, thinking I'd have more time. That or when I was choosing between it and Coral Chaser, I decided they were too similar to buy both? But Coral Chaser I mostly bought for Mums and haven't worn, though I did come very close for her birthday. I'm waffling on this one. If the rewards polishes were more interesting to me, I'd go ahead and get this, the freebie for nail polish day, and call it good. As it is, I'm debating. The pastel linears are stupidly gorgeous and I've yet to regret a single one (even CC is pretty in the bottle) but will I wear it? *muse*

* - I'm gonna say that I'm annoyed that the two polishes that came back were LE in the first place. Unicorn No. 1 was always bait for the Royalty tier to bring back and I hate that. Let my royal ass bring back something truly deserving, not a purple with red shimmer that, yes, is very pretty, but also for a brand that tries to pretend it's better than drugstore... sure does seem to err on the side of drugstore these days. And why the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck was the magnetic topper LE in the first place? Both of these shades are something you can get from most indie/boutique brands. I assume that HT thought the holo version of the magnetic topper was more in line with the brand but... like, dude, c'mon, wtf.
