Turnabout is fair play

Favorite female character
Dawn. Go on, get your pitchforks ready, Internet. I am so ready. Before the character assassination that went on the longer the series progressed, Dawn was pretty friggin' awesome.
I loved that she was this mix of actually being as self confident as the other characters thought she was (when she thinks MA has just been playing at being her friend, Dawn is willing to lose her only friend, real or otherwise, to stand up for herself) and not being anywhere near that self assured because she's thirteen. Or twelve, depending on where in the series we are.
A lot of the reasons the fandom hates her or things they point out as being reasons to stone her are things I love. :P I love that when she catches Stacey in a lie, Dawn flat out investigates and then calls her on it. Is it the right move? Not necessarily, but it's totally something a young girl would do.
I love that Dawn was originally not presented as gorgeous. Her hair, yes, but her looks? They were unusual, which could be good or bad, depending.
I love that she loved ghost stories and believed her house was haunted. When Dawn loves something, she's passionate about it, and that's something I adore in someone, fictional or otherwise.
Favorite male character
...does Tigger count? Hrmm. I'm not sure I had a favorite as a kid, but as an adult, I kinda love the glimpses behind the clown that is Alan Gray. He gets himself pigeonholed as the class clown and whenever he tries to break free of that mold, everyone else (the BSC especially) smacks him right back into place.
I'd like to think that if the series progressed and they were allowed to grow up some, that Alan would have managed to continue to shed that outer layer of zany. One day I'll get around to finishing the FF series aside from Graduation Day.
Least favorite character
Karen? Yeah, I'm going to go with Karen. She's obnoxious to me as an adult, though I couldn't tell you how I felt about her as a kid. I do know I didn't flock to the LS series and that's not just because it was too young for me when it came out.
I think she's one of those characters who probably, had everyone not been boiled down to a couple of personality traits, might have been kind of interesting, but whenever she appeared she tended to do something annoying and got praised for it like it was adorable. It wasn't.
When I read the LS books, I'm reading for Nancy and Hannie and signs of them breaking free of bratty Brewer.
Favorite ship
I'm not entirely sure I have one. Wait! I do. Sam/Stacey. I keep forgetting that's an option because in my brain it's so canon that it's written in stone and those two crazy kids are gonna get ~married~. So it's less a 'ship and more a life choice.
Favorite friendship
Oh, man. This one is actually difficult because I enjoy so many of the various friendships in the series.
I think I'd go with the dynamic between Dawn/MA/Kristy. As a trio, they're a little awkward, but that's what makes things interesting. Dawn and Kristy both see different sides of Mary Anne and bring out different things in each other as opposed to how they are with MA. I'd think, as they got older, that if Dawn stuck around they'd actually get closer. Dawn and MA because of the siblings thing (and Dawn did a lot to bring MA out of her shell) and Kristy thrown into the mix because she and MA are the kind of friends who will forever be the best of friends, no matter how old they are. You cannot convince me otherwise and trying to do so will only make me angry with you. :P
Favorite quote
I'm sure there are zillions that are very, very good and meaningful, even. But I think the BSC and quotes and all I can hear is Luca from the movie freaking out about Stacey being Thirteen! Why is this not a looped clip on youtube?
Happiest moment
It sucks for Stacey, but I love when she moves back to Stoneybrook. As a kid I was super excited about it. There might've been a victory dance involved. *cough*
Saddest moment
Mimi's death followed very, very closely by Louie's.
Favorite location
I always wanted to investigate the secret passage at Dawn's.
Unpopular opinion
I would like to direct you to the love of one Dawn Read Schafer. I'm pretty sure that for awhile admitting that you liked Dawn would get you stoned and run out of town. It still might, actually.
Also, I'm not a big fan of the school of thought that Kristy has to be gay. I don't mind it as a theory, but people who assume that is the only foregone conclusion vex me.
