Why yes, we're going to see how far I can go pretending it's fall when it's still flippin' hot as blazes.

I don't think I mentioned Monday's flood here, did I? I awoke to Mums calling for Widget, so I stumbled out of bed and headed to the bathroom to get some water. I checked my phone to see what time it was and saw an emergency text thing so I looked at it. "Flash Flood Warning." Kay... Then a text from Cass asking if I was up. "Sorta?" And the text flood began. Basically it amounted to, "look outside." So I did. From my room, it was pouring down in sheets and would have been lovely if I wasn't pretty sure our parking lot entrance was flooded already and Widget walking to his bus stop would be more... swimming. So I wander downstairs and peer out the front door. The townhouses here alternate between an extra bedroom on the downstairs floor and a patio outside. We have the bedroom, the townhouse to the left has a patio. Which was under water to the point that a small dog or cat could have gone swimming. o_O

I check the news and no mention of school closings but the Weather Channel is doing the most with what they've got. Cass and I text back and forth and she shares the news of a mudslide out on 526 and eventually it's 8ish, and I decide I will take the dog out for a walk to see the damage before I send the Widget out to wait for a bus that may never come due to all the road closings.

Dog and I head out and notice that it's not really raining at that point, but the parking lot is still very, very wet. Sure enough, the entrance is underwater and when I'm forced to wade (carefully) into it, it comes up over my ankles. My shoes are completely submerged. Fuuuuuuuun. The pond has flooded its banks and is racing towards the street and the street is a river. Interesting. The dog and I walk a bit further and then realize Widget has come out, so we direct him to the best way to get around the water (go through the grass) and carefully step onto the mud bank, then hop carefully onto the street. We follow him up to his bus stop and realize the two ponds up there have also flooded their banks, with the smallest one actually nearly running into the street. It was quite a sight.

I turned around and took the dog home, where I grabbed my camera and headed back out. I put the pictures up on Facebook, but in the time it took for me to start my second walk and then finish it, the waters on the street had receded considerably... but the rain had begun again.

I found out that the fourth pond has a mama duck and seven babies and that even it was kind of flooded, though that pond always has a steep drop off so with all the rain it was just breaking even, really.

Spent the rest of the day getting ready to hang out with Cass who was supposed to take me to see Ari, only that turned into a clusterfuck of unforeseen proportions. I did get to see a mother yank her child to safety while Cass's grandmother drove through the Costco parking lot. The three younger people in the car all exchanged glances that very clearly said, "Did you see that? Right?!" It was good times, really.

Anyway, I'm working an extra day this week, so we'll see how that pans out. Naturally I'm now entering cramping hell. Joy!

Oh, and we should discuss Maryellen's books soon. I have... feelings. Complicated feelings.
