You ever have fandom ruin something before you ever had a chance to go near it? I suspect that I'm not the only one who's been down that road a few times, but my most current offender is the Hamilton fans. If TS is lurking, my love? I don't mean you. And if any of you are, in fact, fans, you're also in the clear since I'm not sure of anyone's love affair with it. :P

Nope, I'm thinking of the ones who won't shut the fuck up about it. Who will go on and on and ON and just when you're like "...kay... if I ever feel the urge, I guess maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing ever..." they begin the lecturing. Oh, sweet flip, do they lecture. It's a very strange thing, honestly. Like they accost you and say you must love this thing, but you can't see this thing because, y'know, it's a play, but you must love it and listen to all the music and the GENIUS and I dunno, my eyes have usually crossed pretty hardcore by this point, so when they start screaming about people recording things and no, don't watch the things I just quietly slip out the back and try to remember which people to avoid next time.

Which is a shame because I read the articles prior to fandom losing their shit all over everything and everyone, and I was mildly interested. Mildly because musicals and I aren't super close. I get weirded out about people just bursting into song, even when I know it's gonna happen.

But yeah, I now get irrationally angry whenever I hear/see anything about Hamilton because I've inadvertently gotten cornered by the fandom and you can say "scroll on by" but dammit, I don't always realize I've stepped on a land mine until it's too late.

Btw, this isn't the same as when the people behind the scenes ruin a show/thing for you. See The 100 and Arrow for their big deaths lately and their handling of it. Just... no.

And let's not even get me started on Sleepy Hollow. Actually, how about I dip a toe in the waters of WTF. I'll be upfront and say that I stopped watching in S2. It wasn't intentional at the time, it was simply one of those things where you miss a week and then you're behind and you just keep putting off getting caught up and suddenly you're reading all these awful reviews and you figure you'll wait til the end of the season or the break to catch up. Only the reviews got worse and the shipping wars got violent and basically the things I liked best about the show were gone.
I liked Abbie and Ichabod's relationship. The fact that they never made it off the ground or even to an actual possible couple is just a waste of chemistry. On ANY other show, they'd have been set up as endgame, even if the show took the long way 'round to get there. S1 was actually flirting with things, k? But when they got rid of all the awesome people behind the scenes, they got rid of all the things that made the show good (aside from the actors themselves).
S1 had Abbie as the star with Ichabod as the damsel in distress secondary lead. It was pretty awesome. FF to the end of S3 and we've killed off our lead who was sidelined in S2 and never made it back. Which is infuriating because if you read Nb's interviews for S1 and before S2 started filming, she's so thrilled to have this crazy little show that no one thought would be much of a thing not only be a legitimate thing, but that she was responsible for carrying it and how it wasn't made into a thing on camera, but was definitely noticed by viewers.
And then you hit the end of S2 and she wasn't even asked to do commentary on her own damn show. WTF, Sleepy Hollow? WTF.

And then I heard good things about S3. That maybe we weren't ever going to hit S1 levels of awesome again but maybe the ship had been patched and things would be good enough to just kind of look back on S2 as growing pains.
So naturally, instead, things get worse and they wind up killing Abbie. Which was spoiled almost immediately (less than 8 hours after it aired, someone spoiled me. Luckily I'd already spoiled myself, so I'd taken the plunge myself, but still...) and it has actually affected me more than I thought it would.
It took me days to figure out why, beyond the fact that I hate it when I like a show and it goes down in flames. And it's because it was the last pop-culture-y thing Ari and I both loved. She had her incident towards the end of S1 and I've basically been in limbo, waiting for her to come back enough to watch the show with me and with Abbie gone, well... it's like getting punched in the gut. It's silly and it has nothing to do with the show itself, but it still feels weirdly personal. Like I don't even get to keep the happy memories of that. Sigh.

I warned you not to let me get started... :P

In happier news, AG wise, my last backordered item finally came in. Rebecca's holiday dress that in no way mentions Hannukah because why should we remind people that Becca is Jewish. I hope it's pretty in person. But who to put it on...
