Florence update

So she's officially reached NC. Mom, Widget, and I (plus the great and powerful Ozma) are pretty much set now. Mom and I had to run out a little while ago for cat litter and a few other things and our first stop, the new Teeter, was closed. In fact, everything in that shopping center was closed. Most of the businesses we passed were either boarded up or closed anyway. If you weren't a bar or a non-chain restaurant, you were probably not open. Or the Publix, which is where we wound up, btw. It was busy as hell but we got lucky in that they'd run out of carts, so we didn't have to try and drive that around and could weave in and out of aisles at will. I grabbed the last Tidy Cats non-light weight litter and we got super lucky with the checkout. I feel so bad for the cashiers and other workers there because holy cow, it was insane. Also, as we were leaving a kid was shrieking and hitting the high notes.

One of the more popular local memes anytime a hurricane pops up is that all the transplants have evacuated so the locals get to enjoy the city the way it used to be. I mean, it's not not accurate. But I don't think any of my neighbors evacuated this time.

Here's hoping whatever SCE&G did over the summer will make it so that if we lose power, it won't be for-freakin'-ever before we get it back.

Also, not sure what work is going to do about paying us for this unexpected week off.

Oh, and I know it was killing you, but no, the Comcast tech did not show up today. But I still had to wake up and move things around just in case, considering they never did update and say they weren't. I'm not upset they didn't show because, y'know, hurricane.

Now, do I go change and then watch the idiots on the weather channel in hopes of seeing someone blown off a pier into the water? Or have I had enough of that already? Wonder if the local stations are going to break the Folly curfew and shoot from there or if it's just going to be from the Battery?
