This storm is a bit of a roller-coaster ride. I say bit because if I walk away from the computer and think rationally, it's basically been the most consistent storm in recent memory. But then the SC Governor goes and orders an evacuation and my brain just goes "shit, did I miss something?" Not helped by Cass going into evac mode. To be fair though, I'd rather she did because of the baby and where she lives.
I went to bed last night after dinner and woke up maybe half an hour ago, so I'm not super well versed in what's happened overnight, but from what I gather from a cursory glance at Live 5's FB, WU, and the cone of shame, her landfall has shifted north. Which sucks for my uncle but I'm not sure how it bodes for Dad's side of the family. It's still not good for them either way, but you'll notice that half of SC is now out of the cone of doom. Which is a nice change of pace, but it's already begun the "well, are hey cancelling the evacuation?"
No, you twits. While I tend to loathe to agree with anything McMaster says or does because I'm not sure it's possible to be any further up Trump's arse, the evac still makes sense. If it's not a voluntary evac, your job can't force you to show up should you choose to obey the order and price gouging protection kicks in. Plus, while it seems early as hell, it's not really since the storm is supposed to hit Thursday. It's now Tuesday. If you wait til Wednesday to tell everyone to leave, get out, go now, you end up with the *thinks* Floyd situation where the interstate becomes a parking lot. And considering just how powerful Florence is, that would basically be a death sentence.
Seriously. I am jaded and broke as hell, but if she doesn't shift her attention north of us like they keep saying she will, I have every intention of grabbing Mom and Widget and the cat, and possibly my brother if he'll listen (along with his cats), and getting the fuck out of dodge. I might fuck with a Cat 1 and I'll debate a Cat 2, depending on landfall and other factors but Cat 4, possibly 5 at landfall? No. Fucking. Way. Every so often I remember that we did ride out Hugo, but that house was built to withstand more than this one is and even then the neighbors on either side each took a tree into the house and the only reason we didn't is because one of the other trees caught/propped up the one angled towards us. The others we just got damn lucky on. And then later we took a tree through the garage anyway. We got stupidly lucky and it worked out. I'm not sure I'd trust my luck to hold like that again.
So with Flo here, I've been cautiously optimistic but still watching obsessively to make sure she's not coming and that part is exhausting. So today I'm going to make myself a list of things I need to have done around the house or around town and work on that instead.
Tl;dr? Not out of the woods yet but we're waiting to see what she's actually doing before panicking. Also, I watch/read too much about storms heading our way and I need to stop that.
Sort of unrelated, but I decided to try and put up the new Halloween decorations I got from Walmart last week. Not really sure how I feel about them, as they're black paper birds like my bats I've been getting anytime I see them. There are more varieties of birds, but 4/6 have foldable wings to give it a 3D/flying effect but two don't. And two of those 4 look kinda... lame. Plus I think I should've had them flying towards the front door but I wanted them flying down the hallway to the living room. Can't tell if it's worth it to put up the second back of 12 or not.
