Not sure if it's still up, but I finally decided on my 4 Zoya polishes. Technically they say they're free with their HUE19 code, but you do have to pay $15 s/h (or spend another $50 or something to hit 'free' shipping) so it's more like get two and a half free polishes. And since I like the Zoya formula for the most part and they have SO. MANY. PRETTY. COLORS. I kind of had to cave.

Since my method of choosing the colors was to throw in all the ones I liked on any given night/day and then wishlist things as I decided (temporarily) against them, I can't really speak to my rational behind the final four.

In no particular order:
Mimi
Mimi by Zoya can be best described as a royal purple sparkling metallic with cool undertones.
You had me at purple metallic with cool undertones. But really, you had me at purple. I had to actively work at not having all four chosen polishes be purple. Also, I think Claudia would approve of the name, don't you?

Tinsley
Tinsley by Zoya can be best described as a full-coverage, rose gold foil metallic.
Rose gold foil metallic? Sign me up. I don't have a ton of pink polishes and the swatches on this one were lovely and made me happy each time I tried to wishlist Tinsley. So she stayed pretty much the whole time.

Olivera
Olivera by Zoya can best be described as a spellbinding color-flip metallic with an indigo base and a green and purple shift.
Which is to say that this is basically Zoya's version of the polish I used to buy in every brand's range until I realized that a) I did this and b) I'd buy them multiple times without even having come close to finishing the first bottle. Truthfully, the swatches on Zoya's site look darker than the bottle would lead you to believe so it's probably not the exact same shade I kept buying but it's definitely a cousin. And apparently NONE of those polishes survived any of the moves because when I sorted through my polishes, I didn't find a one. I wonder if there's another container floating around with them (maybe under the vanity sink?) or if they all just got chucked at some point. A mystery to be sure.

Gardner
Zoya in Gardner can best be described as a deep periwinkle with a vibrant magenta shimmer in a dense foil finish.
I just realized that I believe I have a Revlon version of this that I was wearing the last two weeks. No wonder I kept thinking, "This is pretty!" whenever I looked at Gardner. Whoops. But maybe it'll be better or different because I swear none of the swatches look like the same polish. Another mystery!

And the current polish from the "try to use these" box is L'Oreal's Silver Sparkle which is delightfully shiny and looks like a snowglobe on my nails. In the best possible way, although I'm not sure there's anyway that couldn't sound delightful. Seriously one of those polishes that makes me stop and stare at the pretty glitter. Because I like shiny things, I guess.

To give this post a little more substance, let's discuss the book I'm currently reading, shall we?

As I Descended is a modern retelling of Macbeth, but in highschool. Because of course it is. Also, four of the five main characters (if you consider Delilah a main character) are gay or bi and considering the source, don't get too attached to anyone.

I'm only a little more than halfway through but... )

I did start the new season of Grace & Frankie and I'm glad they didn't spend too much time on how G&F got their house back because that would have been annoying.

grr. argh.

impy: Ghoulia Yelps ready to destroy everything with the text 'Die Now.' (MH: die now)
I'm vexed. Vexed I say. Mums I went to Target to do our grocery run and I've really got to learn that this is just a fucking terrible idea because our Target's frozen/cold food selection is always iffy at best on having what we want/need. But sometimes you do what you gotta do, and today I needed it to be Target. Usually the only problem is the whole them not having a decent selection of certain things or their prices for say, meat, is insanely high. Otherwise it's fine because checkout, even if you wind up with that one lady who is ancient and slow as can be, is relatively painless. I've never had a problem checking out there before.

You know where this is going, right? The signs are lit up all neon and pretty, yes?

I don't know when they switched to not having legit cash registers open til after 10:30, but Mums and I have a buggy filled with a million little things because, like I said, grocery shopping. And the self checkouts are open as are/is (I don't remember if it was one or two) the return/CS checkout register(s). The girl directing people to the self checkouts is chatting with a friend who may or may not have been in line, and so Mom asks which line she's in- self checkout or the CS registers. Employee's friend says either and makes no attempt to move. Mums is having a bit of a moment because she really needs to sit down, so she moves to the CS line. Because our cart is freakin' full. Employee calls out to her that she needs to get back in line so as not to block the lane.

Like... your friend is doing? Because she's blocking everything but okay. I tell Mums to head out to the car and I'll figure it out myself. So she does at the same moment the second self checkout is clear. I wait for the employee to let me know it's okay to move and... she doesn't. So I ask and she gives me this look and says "uh huh" and my annoyance level starts to rise. It gets higher when Mom comes back to give me my wallet and then, realizing that there are a billion employees just standing around doing nothing but chatting (and no, not the Target meeting chatting), she asks to speak to a manager. Yeah, it goes as well as you'd think.

I gather the manager tells her the thing about how the registers don't open til 10:30 (it's like 10:28) and then I overhear her doing the "mmhmm, sure, sure, I'll pass it along" thing you do to problem customers just to get them out of the store. Sure enough, as soon as Mom is outside, the first girl bitches loudly like she doesn't understand what the problem was, that she didn't DO anything. That's kinda the point, though? You didn't explain the register issue even though clearly Mums is older and would probably like someone else to be ringing up her 75 items. You also didn't waste any time badmouthing her even though I'm RIGHT THERE.

I've never done self checkout at Target so I'm not sure if it's like all the grocery stores/Walmart that flip out if you take stuff out of the bagging area and none of the at least six people standing around doing NOTHING thought to say hey, you know you don't have to try and balance all that in a tiny postage stamp area. Eventually I ran out of room and my choices were put stuff back in the cart or let the glass jars of spaghetti hit the floor and make a spectacular mess. Only the fact that I was wearing a new dress kept them from cleaning up glass.

That and I wasn't sure it would be one of the people hanging around up front who would have to clean things up. Someone else shouldn't have to pay just because they couldn't be bothered to be helpful.

I work retail hell. I try to be nice even when I'm feeling like shit, both at work and when I'm shopping elsewhere because I get it. But don't stand around and let me flounder just because you don't want to open your mouth and take ten seconds out of your chat to help out.

And now I'm all tense and grumbly because of that and the HOA has to come by and check the roof because I think the yellow stain on my ceiling has gotten worse. I know it's bad to say "I think it has" but I can't find any of the pictures I've taken of it over the years... and since I work vampire hours, I keep my curtains closed 95% of the time and the lighting in this place isn't good enough to really illuminate the stain... unless you get bright morning light. In winter. We're talking the crystal clear, practically white light that fills the room and makes you wonder wtf, was this always this big or am I going crazy? Yay.
