Apr. 18th, 2019 10:28 amMY BBW order had arrived by dinner and I was so stupidly excited that right after, I ran upstairs with it and opened the box. The packaging on these things is stupidly pretty and it calls to my soul, considering it's part of the Black & White Collection and naturally, given the name (Black Cherry Merlot) it falls on the Black side.
But to every one of those assholes online singing out joyfully This smells exactly like the soap/candle/home care stuff: No the fuck it does not.
I have not been so bitterly disappointed by BBW since that winter citrusy/pine scent years back that smelled amazing in store but turned to ass on me. And this is worse because that was a one-off. This I waited years for them to figure out the fine art of just making more lotion fit in a damn bottle and the formula for a body wash versus a handsoap.
I don't know if they added something or took something away or what, but it's lighter and I swear there's either a floral or a powdery note which is just sacrilige considering the best thing about BCM is that it's juicy and kinda sweet, kinda tart, and it has presence. Like you walk by and people sniff and ask, in the best possible way, what you have on and will you share.
I sniffed the soap again just to make sure this wasn't a case of period messing with my sense of smell and nope. That smells fantastic and the body cream/body wash just smell wrong after the first couple of seconds. I fumed all night at work (clearly I'm at the part of my period that makes me a little crazy) whenever I'd think about it but then I decided I would try the other two in my order, just in case they came from two different batches and one smelled good and the other did not.
Those almost smell right, just not as strong, when you first sniff 'em, but as soon as you do anything with them we're right back in floral powdery hell. I let Mom sniff last night and she didn't get any hint of BCM and this morning she waffled between "HATE" and "wait, that's not so bad." She tried the cream and swung right back around to hate. Not good when one of the sets was for her.
So now I have to drag my ass to the mall and swap these out for something that doesn't make me want to throw things like a toddler having a tantrum. Also, I'm going to have to sniff the candle again to see if they just matched the body care to that because all I remember about the candle, and I do own one, is that when lit it smells super boozy. We were so close, BCM. SO. CLOSE. Why is it so hard to make a version of you that smells as good as the original and the soap which they keep churning out because it is stupidly popular?
Btw, universe, I'm totally fine with this being a batch variation if it means I find good ones in store. But I'm not holding my breath.
Could someone send help because I've fallen down the youtube hole of watching Buffy episode guides and it's making me want to rewatch and I don't own all the seasons on DVD. And also, it's been years and I still have very intense feelings about some things. (OZ. TARA. S6/7. Applying today's logic to Xander's actions from 20 years ago.)
