impy: (hallo-kitty)
Yesterday was day one of vacation, as you might've noticed from my short, sleepy post. I figure I should maybe keep track of how it's going because I know me and I know the odds of me becoming a sloth are very high. Also period showed up so there's that joy.

So. I have a small list of things I want to do this week, and I'm trying to keep expectations realistic. I managed to knock moving the purple lanterns outside (apparently the HOA is running way late so I could have decorated outside after all) and putting the paper luminarias on the stairs, swapping out the cell batteries on the votives/tea lights, and began work on my room. I did the section I most wanted done first (behind my door so I could use my Halloween spotlight in the hall) and then made small dents in other parts of the room.

It's a hot mess still, and about to swell to GIANT MESS because that's the next stage, but for now I managed to kind of work out a system for the AG stuff (I just need to get everything else dealt with first so i can swing back around to it) and that means I have pockets of room to move things around. Hopefully I can actually manage to be ruthless on getting rid of junk I don't need but we'll see. I'm wishing I had a chair in my room to pile my plushies on and also because I just want a chair in my room, dammit.

Today is tentatively scheduled to be work on room part 2, especially since the rain showed up a day early AND the first lady is in town and that means traffic is a GD mess.

I also need to swap batteries for my two lanterns and hope the batteries last til Halloween. Might wait to see if I still have my store batteries (they suck now but they'll do in a pinch) before doing a swap though.

Oh, I also have been doing two countdown to Halloween things. One is this cute little American Greetings countdown:

The other I made myself, sorta. A couple of years ago you might recall I dipped my toes into the indie polish world officially. I'd still say I'm in the dabbling stage and I'd run back to drugstore polishes if they made them in proper amounts but uh, they don't so anyway. I've kept my circle fairly small because one never knows how an indie polish will do, how it will last, and unlike say, Sally Hansen, I can't just bring it back to the store and say it doesn't work on me. Even worse, I have a bad habit of falling for things that are going away. One of my favorites so far is Bee's Knees Lacquer and she's essentially closing up shop next year. Originally it was set to be this year but fuckery with healthcare abounds and we got a small stay of execution. Yay? She recently had her last anniversary sale and I bought... quite a few polishes. Because they were on sale, dammit. Also, I've had pretty good luck with every polish of hers I bought. Her magnetics are actually magnetic, her holos are magic, and because she's fairly popular, it's pretty easy to find swatches of her stuff.
So. After the package arrived, I made sure I had everything I ordered by counting little packages and reading the names on the bottom, but haven't officially looked at each polish yet. I've been reaching into the mailer bag and pulling them out one at a time, kind of stretching out the reveal. To be fair, I'm not sure I can continue to restrain myself, but it was fun for the first bit. I really liked the Fear Street mystery polish The Ultimate Secret Code, which is great because my luck with mystery polishes has been... enh. Admittedly they were from other brands (or maybe just one?) but since my thoughts on the Fear Street collection were mixed, I wasn't sure about the mysteries. However saaaaaaaale prices do help. Like a lot.

Okay. Time to go stare at the junk in my room and decide whether I'm watching a movie with the cat now or later.

Halloween set-up pics will be later sometime, if you're interested.
