"Ugh. It stinks out here," I think as I walk from the store to the car. I climb in and Mom comments on how "smelly" it is outside. "Yeah, it's like someone's burning tires," I grumble.
We wait at the never-changing light at the most dangerous intersection on the island and hear sirens but don't see anything. Eventually, after two minutes of waiting, we see a fire truck speed through the intersection. I've literally never seen one move so fast, and this includes the time something went funky during one of the Big Important visits to town. Another minute or two clicks by and the red light finally changes to green.
As soon as we turn onto the main road, I notice two things.
1) The fire truck did not go all that far, as it's just past the next light/intersection.
2) There's a LOT of smoke billowing out of something.
We cautiously try and figure out if this is something we should turn around for or what and as soon as we pass the firetruck there are actual flames leaping from a car set ablaze on the damn sidewalk near the Taco Bell. It might've been a little past that but there's a car, on the sidewalk, on fucking fire, with the driver's side door open and just fire EVERYWHERE.
You'd think a car on fire on the morning commute would make a blip somewhere, right? CRICKETS.
