Jul. 6th, 2022 10:14 amTime for a broke vacation update. I believe I left you on the ever so thrilling cliffhanger of whether or not I'd try on my bathing suit and then use it, yes?
Well, if that's not where we actually left off, that's where we'll pick up. I did try it on but didn't use it until yesterday. So we're on the same page this is the suit I went with. At the time I ordered it (a month ago), it didn't have any reviews so don't be looking at the reviews and them my thoughts and think, well, what did you expect with those reviews, genius?
For the most part I like it but it does have some issues.
-Once it's on, it's actually stupidly comfortable, especially the bottom half but trying to get the suit on feels like it's going to either snap my nails (on the right hand where they're mostly short!) or rip something. This one I'm willing to believe is user error simply because I am VERY used to my old swimsuit and am probably trying to put the new one on in the same way despite them being constructed differently.
- It does hit higher than I expected so if you're like me and have an aversion to chokers (despite loving how they look; why are you so cruel, fate?) this one might be a miss. It's not all the time, which is nice, but every so often you'll get a reminder. It's weird.
- The arms hit... strangely. I knew this was a possibility given the way the suit looks, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I feel like they needed to be a little longer to avoid that feeling of having your armpits strangled at random times. Maybe this will go away with use, maybe it'll get worse. We'll see.
-Despite being a Torrid shopper, my boobs aren't huge and this thing comes with padded cups which means I look boobalicious at all times but in the actual water it provides no real support and I kept wondering wtf. It wasn't as bad as I feared it might be but considering the reviews mention it not really being useful for those more blessed than I, I do wonder what the actual point is. It does make swimming backwards feel like somehow your boobs are going to pop out of a suit that will not allow that to happen.
Now. The best thing. In the past *checks notes* forever, I've gone with swim dresses, though I did try to opt for shorter skirts and not "why not just drown" length ones. I say this like I haven't just had two swimsuits (maybe three?) in the last couple of decades. :P Anyway. I thought I'd try something different this time and ohmyglob, I'd forgotten what it was like to not have to spend a goddamn hour waiting for the skirt to dry off so I could walk home and not feel like I was soaking my coverup. GLORIOUS.
Anyway, that was just one wear and a try-on. Depending on how I feel and whether I get dragged, kicking and screaming, to a grocery run, I might go again today.
Update: did go again today. The choking and arm things were more obvious this time but I was also in a bit of a funk so probably looking for things to bug me.
Btw, I absolutely do not recommend shopping Torrid online right now. They've been "upgrading" their shipping for months now and it's still running AT LEAST a month behind. My second order just shipped yesterday (and by shipped I mean the mailing label was printed) and they took all this time to tell me part of my order was unavaible. And my orders have been some of the quicker orders. I was used to not ordering during a big sale (never order from their Black Friday/Cyber Monday stuff) but had pretty good luck with other ordering times, even in May when things were going to shit, but come June EVERYTHING ground to a halt. It's impressive, truly, the clusterfuck they created for themselves.
Their solution, btw, was to give people extra Torrid cash and to push back Torrid cash redemption to in-store first and then online and now, now they're not even mentioning it being online. Which is a bitchass move considering it was meant as an apology for their fuckup but certain sizes aren't available in stores at all and a good chunk of their consumer base doesn't have a store to begin with so fuck us, right? :P
