dream a little dream

impymy dream last night. because it was weird.
In the dream, I'm visiting family. A big family. My family. Only... not really my family. Dreamwise only some of them are related to me, and reality wise, no one is. [as in no real family members turned dream form] Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnyway. I love the house I'm staying at, and I love quite a few of the people there. But I know some of them don't like me. For some reason I get left in charge of a couple of the younger kids [there's a reunion type thing going on over a week during the dream]. Danger, danger!
Things are going well until I'm informed by someone that I should let the giant hamster [much bigger than a real hamster, but not bigger than a cat] go outside for a few minutes. Because he's allowed to and he wants to. So the door is opened, the hammy goes outside, and less than a minute later everyone goes outside to look for him. The kid I'm definitely in charge of, he's about eight, is really upset, and someone keeps saying, "you're going to get fired..." So I walk off and look at the bushes elsewhere. Where I see a familiar fur coat. "I found him!" I say a little too fast, because upon closer inspection I realize he's very, very dead. Keep in mind that the little hammy had been outside for like, five minutes. Max. So even if he'd died, he wouldn't be ant food yet, kay? I'm trying not to gag, and I have to keep the kid away from his pet, so I motion to some twentysomething dude to come hold the kid back because christ almighty, he doesn't want to see this. I wander back to the corpse and out of nowhere comes the eccentric cousin, who in this case is Mikey Way of my chemical romance. I stop dead as he pulls out an old fashioned camera and snaps a picture before heading back to one of the clusters of disgruntled family members. All I can think is, "Oh shit." Then the geekiest cousin says he found the hamster. Alive. We rejoice, and as everyone goes to welcome the lost pet home, geek whispers, "Guess I upstaged you for once, eh?" And I just stare at him like he's nuts.
The dream ended a bit after that, but nothing else really happened. It was just really... odd. I think the oddest bit was this undercurrent of knowing that these people weren't my family, that I didn't know them, but wishing I was part of their madness anyway.
