impyBy the winter of 1989, I learned a very important life lesson: Hurricanes suck. It's why, for the most part, I've avoided following the coverage of Katrina and her path o' pain. Not because I'd find it boring, but because there's only so much insanity a human being can willingly subject themselves to before they snap. Hurricanes? Suck. They blow. They do all sorts of unpleasant things. Evacuations are the anti-fun. They take something kind of scary and make it really fucking annoying and scary. [Did I tell you the one about three hours in gridlock right outside the mall? I didn't? Remind me to sometime. And the orgy going on by the side of the road. That was awesome.]
I do not like thinking about how a hurricane could smoosh my house, suck my goodies out into the world [at least the ones I didn't have enough room or foolishly thought would be spared] and have it's way with the city. Because, honestly, I think about it enough every spring when the "OMG! We're all going to die!" predictions start. That, for those who do not live in coastal areas threatened yearly by hurricanes, would be when the weather channel and all their minions declare that this will be a shitty summer producing ten to twenty storms, and oh yeah, you're all gonna die while they stand outside and cheat death somehow. For ratings. Because they can. I think about it enough as summer drags on. I do not stop thinking about it in some part of my brain until November. Thus the blackout on my end. Though tales of $6 gas? Hi, I thought you were supposed to ban price gouging. Or is that so 80's?

The part-timer on third shift is quitting. Christ, if Kathleen makes a play for getting Fridays and Saturdays off, leaving me to work them alone, I might kill her. If those days weren't freakishly busy, I wouldn't give a shit, but they are. And it's unfair to assume I'll work 'em alone. Unfair, uncool, and dangerously close to getting told off for, man. But I'll stress later.
Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. charisma carpenter: she makes fluff interesting, damn it.
dido: I love her voice and have fond memories of seeing her on 120 minutes. warm fuzzy memories.
gambit: if it's possible to have a crush on a 2D character, I think I would have had one on 'im. He got some fantastic storylines, and even when they were crap I'd read 'em anyway. I'm a sucker for impossible romances, and his attempts to win Rogue over killed me.
live: the band, dahlings. songs that make me happy? yeah, I think that's enough to make for an interest. also one of the few bands I stole from my brother when his musical tastes eventually changed.
nolee: of myscene fame, was the first of the dolls who demanded I own her. She's also the doll I have the most versions of and will always attempt to own at least one of each of her out there. She's also in love with Delancey, but don't tell her I told you.
rachel skarsten: from my birds of prey fandom. while her character could be annoying, the girl gave great interviews. which I'm sad to say, seems to be a lost art, even amongst those who should manage to market themselves properly somehow. she's also cute. :p
tara: tara made some crappy episodes of buffy worthwhile. I cried when I found out they were going to kill her and even when it was obvious she wasn't coming back, I held out hope because they kinda needed her. early tara also was the closest in awhile I'd seen a character on tv come to how I am. freakishly shy. then she matured. bah! ;)
amazon says my stuff shipped. any bets on when it actually appears? I sincerely doubt it'll take 11 days to get here. 10, maybe.
Off to shower and pray mtv and my vcr didn't screw my mcr loving ways over. alphabet soup!
