All hail the movie gods, I saw Goblet Of Fire. Because it would be rude of me to impose a silence ban on other people and then prance around without a cut on my thoughts, I will put all such geekouts behind the cut.

But you're stuck with trailer musing beforehand.

We opened with Superman, which seemed to be a big deal since the people who'd already seen the movie [atleast twice. o_O] said this one wasn't shown before. Gotta say that for all the possible awesome-ness, there was this snippet with Lois and Supes and my brain curled up inside my head and cried out, "Noooooooooooooo!" I don't know why though.

Monster House looks... enh. Happy Feet looks cute, but come on, they're penguins. Penguins are cute and I've always thought so. When Hollywood came to this conclusion, I'll never know.

Narnia looks amazing. One of those movies you could simply look at. On the other hand, it lost some coolness when a reject from LOTR seemed to pop up for a second. :p Still, oooh. Ahh. Shiny!

The only surprise of the bunch was King Kong. No interest in the movie whatsoever. None. Is there a way to have less than no interest? If so, that was me. The trailer? Whoa. Makes me almost want to spend the money to see the movie. Freaky.

Onward!

If you simply want to know if I liked the movie, the answer is yes. It is definitely my favorite movie of the bunch, although it really doesn't take much to beat PoA as I'm still miffed at how they ripped the soul out of that one. Yes, I'm a geek, I freely admit this, and you should already know that. So shut up about it.

That said, GoF is probably my second favorite book and I know it's the one I read the fastest, forsaking sleep for the sake of knowing what happened next. I remember troubled dreams after finishing it and the movie did the same thing. Probably a coinky-dink, but who knows for sure?

I didn't regret the $6 I spent to see the movie, I wouldn't have regretted buying popcorn and a drink if we hadn't been running a little late, and I came home and offered to take Mumsy out to see the movie immediately. It's a good movie. Sort of. There are issues.

Issues/Cons/things that made it difficult to fully geek out/or entirely too easy to geek out

- The biggest thing was the way they pretty much gutted the Riddle backstory/confusion. I can see why they did, since it took a couple of re-reads for me to be sure I understood what the blue hell was going on, but at the same time, it seems like they might regret certain cuts.

-Dude, where are my House elves, man? Consider this a catchall for just about everything that was cut that I could remember. Something tells me that had I re-read the book in the last few months, I'd have a lot to bitch about ending up on the cutting room floor.

- The Yule Ball. I admit I was sitting with someone who hates Hermione and had been very good up until then about not bitching, but when Hermione started her rubbing Ron's nose in her date/subsequent freakouts, I lost a bit of what actually happened. Still, one minute she seems to be flouncing off, the next she and Ron are arguing, and then she's sobbing. ...the hell?

- Quite a bit of the first bit of the movie felt incredibly rushed and not in the way I think it was intended. It's like they finally looked at the book they were supposed to be bringing to life and thought, "ohshit." While Quidditch has never been my favorite aspect of the books, it really sucks that they keep denying people who love-ums their Quidditch of what little Quidditch they could see and enjoy.
While it's nice not to have that weird introduction bit that seemed to sort of lurk in each of the previous movies, it's a little unsettling to basically suddenly drop yourself into a freaky drunken!Weasley Quidditch celebration that turns ugly. Very, very weird.

- Fleur? Waste of a character. Honestly, if she was on screen, it was to possibly look pretty or scream. That's it. I admit she wasn't the deepest character in the book, but still.

- That leads to the feeling that everyone was a background character. Even though it's obviously Harry's story, even he felt a little like he was taking a backseat to something that never really materialized. Possibly Voldy, possibly the thing I love best about the movie [we'll get there in a minute], but it all felt kind of off-kilter when you look back at it.

- Was Dumbledore always that touchy in the book? I know he has his rage moments, but he was pretty much pissed off for most of the movie. Freaky. o_O

- Hermione popping up in the oddest places was strange. I understand that TPTB seem to think they need to include lots of Hermione, but some of her scenes felt forced storywise. So weird. I'm not sure if this feeling will go away when I see the movie again.

- Ron basically sulking the whole movie. Vexing. Amusing when you add subtext to it, but vexing all the same. Granted, he does a lot of sulking in the books, so I'm not sure I can really sit here and blame the movie for it. I can say it's weird that he seemed to alternate between being the jealous/jilted boytoy of Hermione and then Harry. Heh. Heh.

-Myrtle. Creeped. Me. The. Fuck. Out. Seriously. I felt pervy enough as it was and then there she is and it was just... g'ah.

Pros/Good Geekouts/Things that make DVDs needed:

- Less confusing than the book with the whole Riddle me this, Riddle me that bits. Of course, you yank out most of it and of course it'll be less confusing.

- Cedric is dreamy. Even Voldy says so. I never really managed to put a face to Cedric while reading the books, so I was quite happy to have someone else do it for me.

- The bits of the Yule Ball that didn't make me think I missed something big [like cutting out scenes] amused me. Ron learning to dance? Good times. Even better with the twins mocking the hell out of him. Never, never, never let him live it down.

- The bouncing Ferret scene wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but when ferret boy ended up in um... Crabbe? Goyle?'s pants, I nearly died laughing. For all the right and wrong reasons. So very, very dirty. :D
Which leads me to this: I know it's annoying when people [generally girls of the teeny-variety] prance around and shriek, "OMG! Ron loves Harry!" or some such nonsense, but have you seen the same movie I did? All the sulking! All the longing looks! So much forbidden love. I will never 'ship the ship fantastic for any of these, but movie Ron/Movie Harry are so soulmates. Shut it. If they aren't, then I'm going with Cedric/Harry, for theirs is a forbidden love. :p

- The mer scene? Pretty much exactly how I imagined it, although I probably didn't picture it so Cabin By the Lake. Creeeeepy.

Finally, the second best thing about the movie: There's this fantastic sense of creeping dread that's just everywhere. It makes sense since GoF was a pretty dark book and it brought us the return of Voldy and cost Hogwarts a dreamboat. The movie is gorgeous. While I could sort of latch onto the visual style of PoA, I'm in love with how GoF looks. It's just... yes. Perfection. So much so that I thought to myself, "I cannot wait until OoTP comes out!" before remembering I loathe most of that book. :p

Overall, I expected a fiasco and was beyond pleasantly surprised. The movie is yummy to look at, it's funny, and while I didn't cry at the big death, it's not like it was a surprise. This is the only HP movie I want to see again and again and again. Sure, issues abound, but it's so pretty!

Neville is love, y'know. It sucks that Harry took his prophecy/life and then later gets the girl. Neville, I still love you.

Oh, and Dan shouldnae be allowed to cry on screen. I imagine if you dropped a load of bricks on the boy's foot he could cry properly, but when emoting, it's painful. But not half as painful as... well, you know.

I think I'm going to cave one of these years and buy a PS2. Yeah, I'm falling off the geek wagon. Woe. Luckily I don't have an extra $200 to blow immediately. [games too, people.]

Gotta go send dad some .wav files so he can mock people cuz Clemson won.

This post brought to you by thunder, lightning, and the lack of spellcheck. WOO!

Dan did a lot better with the crying in this one, though. I mean, it wasn't good, but much, much better than the whole "HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!!11" in PoA.

And I cried at Hermione in the Yule Ball. Because she = my heart. xP

I need to watch it a second time, though, to pick up on all of the things you mentioned. I was just in awe during the whole first time, because, hello, HP wins at life.

-Hermione was having her first period. Nuff said.
-The boys lusting for each other was all abound, and then naked Harry really put the icing on the already too sweet cake.
-Aside from the fact that YES visually it WAS stunning, from the dreamy cast to the computer images, it was pretty boring.
-THE ENDING?! The fuck was that? It was like the producers and directors were like "uhhhh, oh shit the movie is over... WHAT DO WE DO?!?!"
-Agreed, good times. Worth the $6 plus $1 processing fee to buy tickets online.
