My fucking DVD/VCR thing hates me. I hate it right back, I do. I woke up a little before 9:30 last night and looked at the machine and thought I saw the long string of numbers that means it's recording. I purred a little, closed my eyes, and then sat straight up, grabbed my glasses and started swearing a blue streak. The damn thing hadn't started and nothing I could do would make it tell me why the hell not. I pop a tape in, figuring the last half of House is better than none at all, and something starts recording. I try turning the TV off and it looks like the recording stops and for about ten minutes I freak out and warn mom that House is DOA apparently. I hear the sound of the machine cutting off a little after ten, and when I woke up for work, realized that it had gone on to record as if nothing were wrong with missing the first half. So either I didn't press the right button after I set the thing, or it's mocking me. My money is on mocking me, simply because it went on to record exactly what was left on the original... thingamabob.

Sorry, my brain parted ways with me for a moment as it remembered that we repeatedly receive notes on homework sheets and things from Widget's teacher and her assistant, and they consistently fuck up their spelling or grammar. I know this is a Math & Science school, but hell, "the book is to old for him" is wrong no matter how you look at it. My reaction? "....o_O !!!!!! IDIOTS!" I want to correct their snaffus with red pen, send it back to them, and demand they initial and recognize that teachers should be able to go a week without fucking something up in the form of a note home to ALL parents/guardians/whatever. You don't want the kids to come in and say, "Momma says I don't have to listen to you until you learn -insert problem of the week here- so nyah!"

Luckily, I'm not quite evil enough to teach that little phrase to Widget.

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicize that you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. Add an asterisk [*] to those you've read more than once. Underline those on your to-read list.

I read most of those for school. In fact, I think everything but the Gaiman stuff was school assigned. Never did finish Dracula. Tried numerous times, will finish one day, but each time I start, I remember Kate and I reading from her copy and something scraping the window in my bedroom and we screamed, threw the book across the room, and proceeded to scare ourselves silly. And I know I read one of the Jane Austen books for English one year, but damned if I remember anything as I resented the HELL out of having to read or do anything for that teacher.

Slowly loading the Pullip Fab entries so I can continue my betting ways. I still say that what the various NTM-like competitions are missing is the critique. I'm not saying you have to be unbelievably harsh, but really, isn't a lot of the fun of ANTM and the various other off-shoots watching the last fifteen minutes as they judge them? Well, duh, of course it is. I'd also pick a 'winner' of each round, but I like-ums the drama so long as I'm just watching, and I can see why you wouldn't necessarily want to set people up to have the same person picked over, and over, and over. Y'know how it goes.

I second on the Pullip contest things. It would be nice to know what exactly we're getting judged on. That's why I had such trouble picking a photo last night. Should I go with the one where my girl looks prettiest? Or the one with the best overall scene? Or the one with the best use of props/them?

Oh yeah, I'm interesting in hearing who you think will be moving on. I won't be hurt if you think I'll get cut. It's easier if I can prepare for it ahead of time, lol. I only counted about 7 that I thought for sure would get cut below mine, but I guess you never know. I thought it was interesting that a lot of people went more...abstract? with the food thing.

Shary, Satine, Shelby,
Amberle, Noa Shay, Leda
Lolly, Aki, Dove, Ekco
Luka, Charlotte
Coco [unless someone notices it's a png and not jpg and that should have been noticed when sent in]
Alice, Nikea, Denver
Yoshiko, Daimaru

I'm actually not sure about quite a few of them considering how off the wall a few are, and one or two I was positive on last go round didn't make it. I'll be beyond surprised if Shary doesn't hit the third round, or if Angel goes on through based on this round alone. I'm missing two because I'd already begun using the, "but I really liked their last picture" [Charlotte] or figuring that a couple might possibly be bumped ahead of others due to name recognition. On my official list my last two spots are for Collette and Gypsy.

Any of the ones I left off correspond with yours? Or anyone I picked that you're sputtering and possibly thinking I'm insaaaaaane?

I'm not too sure on Dove since I didn't really think she spotlighted the food too much. It just seemed like an afterthought. I think Cheshire could make it over Luka. I think Regina stands a good chance if they recognize it as a cake. I pegged Charlotte to NOT make it. Coco-I just get grossed out by the food on her face. I think Holly could make it over Denver just based on use of the theme. And I would pick Story over Daimaru, since I don't really see anything edible in Daimaru's picture. Here's to hoping for the last two though, lol. I don't know who the big names are though, so that may have factored into the choices we disagreed on. the only ones I really know of prior to this are Joni and Lovehaze and she seems to be the favorite to win.

With Charlotte it was because I loved the last photo so much that I wanted to see more, y'know? Alas, not to be. Ditto for Dove, although I thought the picture this go round was nifty. I figured Daimaru was there to make it so that I'd keep spelling something wrong [or thinking I had] and was going with an Alice in Wonderland sort of thing. At least, I think that was my logic yesterday. And I get to thinking about the Tom Petty vidoe when I see Regina and all the patterns and things and I get a little topsy-turvy tummy, which is the reason I left her off.

I'm sorry you didn't make it. :(

I still can't figure out what the judging is actually based on. *offers popcorn or other snacks* Ooh, inside scoop! I hadn't realized there was a favorite, cuz I'm slow.

Thanks! I was already building myself up for this which is why I was happy just getting past the first round. I'm terrible with the lighting indoors, so I'm not real surprised. But now I can more freely dish on the other entrants with you and it won't look quite so bitchy. :D I am kind of miffed on the Daimaru one, since I did figure it was AinW, but even so those elixers weren't really what I'd consider "good eating". I guess since it's just a point system of 1-10, they just pick a number on the scale as to how much they like it? Oh well. Let me know if you see another contest starting up. We can both enter!

I guess in the PF contests past, Lovehaze gets really far, but then ends up 2nd or 3rd, so it seems like this might be her year to win it.
