I finished Comic Book Tattoo and... wow, a mixed bag, eh? I'd originally planned on dissecting it today, but... I'm lazy. I can think of at least two I didn't like all that much and I still... don't...get... Marianne. *is dense* One of the two is God, which isn't bad, and is an interesting take on it, but it got old. Fast. And some I loved although normally I'd see the artwork and run the other direction since comics are, y'know, big on the visuals. If I find the artwork distracting in all the wrong ways, it's very, very difficult to fall in love with whatever story is being told. But I much prefer the stories where I learned to like/appreciate the art because the story was so damn good to the ones where the art was so absolutely stunning, but the story was lacking.
I know, substance over style. Whoever thought they'd live to see the day?
There was an awful lot of American Doll Posse represented, which was a bit odd considering I have very little attachment to any of those songs except for one... and it happened to get an amazing story, so, yay! But the others meant that I had no song to hold against the story, which was nice. Especially since the using of lyrics as anything other than lyrics proved to be enough to push me over the deep end. I don't know why. It just drove me batty almost every single time it happened. Maybe it's the way some of the lyrics are worded? They sound perfect in song, but when you try and force them into conversation they sound strange, and not in a good sort of way.
