I'm not always Joss Whedon's biggest fan. I suspect, quite strongly, that that particular title belongs to Joss himself. That said this? Makes my head explode." It's old, but being thrown about in the Dollhouse discussion of the ick factor of the Actives.
I'd like to point out that of the various essays/thoughts/whatever, most of the people NOT doing flyby comments completely ignore the existence of male Actives in their "ohmygodhowcouldJossdothattowomen!" freakout. It's annoying.

I burned my tongue right before my brunch and couldn't really taste much of anything. *sulk* My newest [and last for the AGs anyway] dolly crack is on her way. I caved and ordered Sonali because she's only here for one year [I feel like I should be shrieking that, but I'm lazy] and she's pretty and my collection is looking a little pale ever since Destiny went home. I feel a bit out of sorts though because for the longest time it was just Sam, Kirsten, and my spy.* Then Cass needed a place for Destiny to crash and not just while she was staying her herself. For years I essentially had four dolls, although silver eyed Destiny freaked me out more than a little at times. And in the span of a little too fast I'll have added another three. But Nellie was a sell out worry and Sonali had to be bought during my dolly buying time which is traditionally the start of the year.

*I've decided the redheaded girl is a spy. It's why no name seems to have stuck for long. She is who others think they want her to be [With Destiny she was Heather] and she's obviously Someone, but the heck if I know who that is.

Oh I meant to reply last post, but I thought she looked like a Chelsea. I like see your AGs cause you make them much more interesting than I find them! I'm glad though cause I do not want to be tempted by all those accessories!

I cannot describe how much that inaccurate essay annoys me. But there are extremists and crazies no matter where you go; I just wish these FemNazis would realize they often harm their cause more often than the help it.

When you cross the line from feminist into FemNazi, you start hurting, not helping. You're like PETA: in becoming so extreme about not dogs and cats to "suffer" as pets, you end up with a giant freezer of dead animals in your back office -- animals that you killed in an attempt to "protect them."

I'm gonna need to come back to this post tomorrow after work (tonight I have massive reading to do) because I am going to need to write a massive rebuttal. As someone who believes really strongly in equality between the sexes, it's women like the one who wrote that post that really PISS ME OFF. She obviously watched Firefly with a skewed attitude, waiting to misinterpret everything that was said in an anti-feminist bent. I only read the first few lines and already I wanted to scream. She takes issue with the fact that Zoe calls Mal sir, despite the fact that he is her captain AND the fact that they were soldiers together and he was her superior. They have a military relationship and despite that, it's obvious how much Mal respects Zoe. INFURIATING! I won't even go into the whole "all prostitution, including Inara's companion work, equals rape" thing. But seriously? If I chose to have sex with some guy and let him give me money, he's raping me? Even though I CHOSE to do that? Does she even know what rape IS?

I can't even deal sometimes. Women who overdue the feminism to the point of hating all men and looking for anti-feminism in everything they encounter are the ones who are setting gender equality back. It's the same as racial minorities who hate on white people just because they're white and so obviously must be ignorant to other cultures or are obviously oppressing racial minorities just by existing.

Then again, maybe I'm sensitive to all of this because I'm a gay man living in a culturally diverse city whose boss is a biracial woman and who has nary a male colleague in sight (and outside of editorial - there's like 3 other guys in all of the children's dept).

To quote Mrs. White from Clue: Flames...flames on the side of my face.

Whoever this woman is that watched Firefly and saw chauvinism must have a very tight rein over what qualifies as sexism. My Goddess, I've been treated by society as both a man and a woman and know what sexism is first hand (and both ways, mind you); I don't see Mal being sexist a lot of the time. I DO see Mal fitting the stereotype of a ship's captain, irrespective of whether or not such a stereotypical attitude can be construed as sexist.

And WTF? Firefly is solely a good thing, much like Krabby Patties, Barack Obama and rainbows!
