I was about to mention how the last one ended for another reason why Thirst didn't really work, but I thought maybe not speaking of the ending (nyargh!) was best. I loathed how he ended it and yet on some level it seemed almost fitting. Kinda.
The "vampires are the new sexy!" thing drives me batty. For my/our lifetime, they've pretty much been sexy beasts and if you didn't realize that, dude. You were obviously meant to be their walking happy meal. And I feel weird about books I loved being re-released as something new for obvious old reasons. I don't like the rush of "how can we cash in on the Twilight/True Blood" things, especially when it is a lot of "If you liked them, you should like these things that pre-date them, but you'll think they're inferior rip-offs!" and I'll have to smack them with a stolen cane.
