LEVEL: Reader
Stage I: Read series books as a child. (Doesn't matter what series).
Check!
Stage II: Stop reading series books
Fail! But we'll allow it since, y'know, the book series ended and I wasn't reading them daily. Close enough, y/y?
Stage III: Disposal of books by yourself, mother, brother, sister or natural disaster.
Uncheck! Though in the move, my BSC books got lost, stolen, or strayed. And then the cats did Unspeakable Things to another couple of series. So, we allow it for those. But my SV love did not waver, dammit, and I resent the implication that it should have. Real love is forever! Or until your boyfriend is out of town.
Stage IV: Series books move to back of the brain, thought about occasionally, but nothing done about it.
Back of brain/broke/series is out of print/whatever, yeah, sure. But we allow it.
Stage V: Stumble upon one or two books from your favorite series at a flea market, antique mall, garage sales, etc.
I think you mean discover Ebay at 4am.

LEVEL: Gatherer
Stage I: Decide to re-acquire your favorite series; format and DJ's don't matter, you just want the books.
Stage IIa: If a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys/Tom Swift collector, astounded that there are so many other series.
Seriously? Does this list assume you never, ever went to a library or bookstore after you gave up your chosen crack? I admit that there are more Nancy Drew series than is strictly necessary, but even as someone who never managed to really get into them, I still noticed there were approximately 437!

Stage IIb: If collector of other series, astounded that anyone else has ever heard of your personal favorite. ("I’ve never met anyone else who even knew who _____ was.")
I still feel warm and fuzzy whenever someone else confesses to loving SV/BSC and they aren't even the obscure loves, man.
Stage III: Really regret Reader - Stage III.
Regret? No. Pissed as HELL that someone chose to steal my BSC books. WTF, people. I still hope a thousand papercuts were had and that the box dropped on your foot repeatedly.
Stage IV: Discover that most of the book authors were pseudonyms.
Grief. Disbelief that you had not realized. The phrase, I've been living a LIE, comes to mind.

Stage I: "Gee, they would look better on the shelf if they all matched."

Stage IV: Do one of the following: Create a special area at home for display of your books, get a series book based license plate, incorporate your favorite series into your internet id or name a pet after a series book character.
Um...not exactly. But I've done other stuff that would probably count towards this one. *cough*
Stage V: Find 5 books from the ____ series; decide to collect that series as well.

Stage VI: Willing to admit to other "grown-ups" that you collect "kid's" books.
My SVH love has no shame. None.
Stage VII: Can follow conversations on at least one of the following topics: Stratemeyer Syndicate, why the last book in a series is usually the most rare, getting the smell out of books, Farah's guide, how to determine a "first", laser DJ's, book grading, major inconsistencies in your favorite series.

Stage VIII: Have picked up books from at least half a dozen other series; plan on reading them all.

Vacation = book huntin', no?

Stage III: "Some of those firsts are hard to find, I think I'll try for a complete set in format _____ as well."

Stage IV: Have picked up at least a dozen other series, some of which you know that you will never read.

Stage VI: You have run out of shelf space for your books at least once, if not several times.
And bought a new bookcase.
Stage VII: Can hold conversations on the following topics: DJ protectors centerfold vs. no paper backing, series authorship, series artists, minor inconsistencies in your favorite series, etc.

Stage VIII: Add rider to homeowners insurance covering your collection.
That's what the dolls get. The books, not so much.

Stage I: I think I will try to get every book in every format available for my favorite series.
Stage II: I think I will collect foreign editions of my favorite series.
Stage III: Name your children after series book characters.
Stage IV: Decide to collect every series ever made; just boys or girls.
Stage V: Decide to collect every series ever made; both boys and girls.
Stage VI: Change your will to donate your collection to a University.
Level: Never. Those in italics were considered, but my laziness overcomes much.
3) I got my AG wishbook in the mail last week. Thursday, I believe. I still believe they lace those things with crack. For anyone in the AG market, today is the last day of free shipping on any Cecile and Marie-Grace item, no code required. There's still a code for free shipping over $50 floating around, however, and you can't combine the two, which is why I'm waiting to make my order.
4) New Tori Album: Night of Hunters. Thoughts? Opinions? Have you bought it, are you waiting, have you listened? Tash singing, yay or "I respectfully decline from offering a comment"?
