Today I had a very grown up and very unwanted realization. I was minding my own business, doing my job, when I realized that I will have no money to give to the Mums to buy me a present, so my present having-ness rests in the hands of the boy and anyone else who might buy me a gift... who is not Mums. D: I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. I just spent TWO HOURS trying to think of stuff my brother might buy me if I asked. TWO HOURS. And I realized after the first hour and a half that it overlapped horribly with the list I gave Cass. So I mentioned it in passing, without thinking about the fact that she might inadvertantly give away what she'd bought me.
She kept repeating, "Don't give him my list!" even after I pointed out that the stuff I actually seriously, hardcore wanted he wouldn't buy me. >_< So... that kind of worries me. A bit. A lot. I dunno. I like shiny gifts. I like gifts period. I do not like it when you have to edit your gift list according to who is doing the shopping for reasons other than price or, like, you wouldn't want clothes from someone but rather they refuse to buy you something for a reason other than price. (For instance, I would not ask anyone but Mums for the Monster High Ghoulia giftsets because they cost a lot... and because the boy would not buy me one even if it was the ONLY thing I wanted.) Soooooo... yeah. On the one hand, presents! On the other hand, realizing that the things you'd most want under the tree ain't gonna happen? Meh.
Things could be worse. Things are worse if you look at them in just the right way. But no matter, I finally thought of a few more things I wanted enough to ask for. The problem with making the boy a list is that you have to be very, very sure you want everything on the list otherwise he will find the one thing you don't actually want all that much and buy it. Doesn't matter how long the list is, he has that gift.
I suspect I have that gift in regards to him as well. Superpowers, do not activate!
Anyway, I needed a bit of a whine. And so I have, so I feel better. Ish. Now to figure out who gets which card and then to find the stamps. The stamps!

Date: 2011-12-19 10:27 am (UTC)And yes. Sort of. I have to pay for them because I'm pretty sure the boy isn't going to offer Mums money to buy me a present from her (Mums plays taxi and Raising of The Widget, neither of which pays) and Dad is no longer around so... yes. Other years I've offered use of my card and the "If you wanted to buy me this sort of rather expensive item and didn't have enough money for it, there is a suspicious amount of cash waiting for you to use it on that very item!" but it... never worked. :P
Ah. Life.
