I need something fluffy and it's quite possible you do as well, so let's discuss Monster High. Unlike last year, Mattel went to town with MH stuff at Toy Fair this year, promptly causing most MH fans, casual or otherwise, to drop dead from the shock. This came on the heels of pics being released of the new MH characters set to come out this year, which also caused a bit of craziness in the land o' MH. Sadly, with my hours, I do not often get to really jump in the fray on such things because while everyone else is at home and chattering away online, I am at work or asleep prior to work. Rude!
We'll start with the newbies.
Jackson.

Doll is meh. If I don't get around to buying Gloom Beach Jackson, I won't be terribly disappointed as Basic Jackson looks identical. It's a shame because artwork wise, Jackson is cute, but in doll form he doesn't really appeal to me much at all. I like his outfit and that they actually went through and made him. Reasons for buying: Nerd glasses and that diary. Otherwise the least interesting of the bunch for me.
Venus McFlytrap.

Odds are good you see what they did there, right? :p Anyway, I'm torn on Venus. On the one hand, her appearance in the Valentine's special made her seem very sweet, hairstyle I do not particularly care for aside. I can appreciate adding the fangs on an artistic level as in the special she really did just look like she was a green girl with odd hair who fell out of a bad 80's music video. The extra planty bits are a nice addition... but her bio (here) makes her sound painfully obnoxious. Think late ghostwriters-era Dawn from the BSC and Poison Ivy from Batman, possibly the Uma Thurman version and no one wants that. So I'm holding out for more of a Gotham Girls Poison Ivy and earlier Dawn combo so my brain doesn't break when I read about her.
Rochelle Goyle.

Rochelle is a mixed bag for me. On first glance I was disappointed that she was so light and fluffy looking (though in hindsight it seems really obvious given the line) but I swear, each picture thereafter has made her seem that much more awesome. I'm actually really, really looking forward to her. I loved her shoes more before the latest round of photos made them look kind of blah, but hey. Socks! I do wonder if she's got the woe eyebrows why they didn't give them to Ghoulia who has them in the webisode and artwork. *confuddled* Whatever. She'd be the one I'm most looking forward to except her character sounds painfully dull at the moment.
Robecca Steam.

I'm a bit surprised at how safe they played it with Robecca (you think robot girl with this line and you don't immediately think so... humanoid looking, k?) but there's something about her that appeals to me. I like the little extra bits they've done to make up for the whole wussing out thing, and her hair is so fluffy and Mom pretty much nailed it: "You're never going to get over not getting Stormer, are you?" No, Mother, I am not. :p I'm a bit sad they couldn't get away with a robot chicken for a pet, a robot penguin complete with rocket pack? HELL YES.
Ghouls Rule

Lookit all that hair. Seriously, Draculaura is guaranteed to be... special when deboxing.
That... is a lot of stuff going on, which is the point but still. A lot of stuff going on. *tilts head* Frankie is the only one who is an immediate yes for me. Cleo is hovering somewhere between her DotD doll and her GB doll; one is my favorite Cleo of all and the other is my least favorite MH doll that I own. She could really go either way. Draculaura is teetering on the verge of being a hot mess, but she falls on the right side of things because she's just... adorably insanely over the top. Also, wings! Clawdeen seems to be the real dividing line for fans. You love her or you're backing away slowly. I'm curious as to how well it'll work. I'm not a fan of all the furry stuff going on in her outfit and the mask isn't doing much for me for her... but it makes sense for Clawdeen. Soooo... we'll see.

Oh, not happy about the CGI crap being used in the Halloween special, too. :/
Roller Maze

Used the art cuz I find it cute. :p LAGOONA! *grabby hands* I do wish they'd do something different with you though, my dear. Short of DotD, your dolls tend to resemble one another a little too much... Anyway, I don't really get the lineup for this wave. Operetta, sure. Ghoulia makes sense in that she's quirky and hey, maybe like dodgeball she finds a way to compensate for her zombie-slowness. Lagoona is rather sporty but... yeah. And Frankie's a liability, which might be the point. I dunno.

Based on the fact that these seem pretty much DONE, I'd imagine we'll seem them sooner rather than later.
Dot Dead Gorgeous

Wow. Spectra is out for a little less than a year and only just now got her second doll, but Operetta hasn't even fully saturated the country and she'll be getting her third doll... at least. DDG Operetta looks pretty nifty though. The artwork for Spectra is adorable, but poor Spectra is a bit tricky to photograph so I'm reserving judgment until we get clearer shots. LAGOONA. *grabby hands*
Dead Tired 2: Still Tired!

Clawdeen here looks pretty spiffy. She's decidedly different from the initial DT Clawdeen (and not bundled with a bed that is excellent storage) that I'm not going to bitch about them making another one. I like the fact that this doll line revisits previous waves and refreshes them. That said...
Dead Tired Draculaura:

Why? I could understand if the first doll's hair wouldn't come out of the piggies but... it can. It takes a bit of work, but it can be done... so why? She's blurrier than Clawdeen so it's harder to figure out how I feel beyond the initial "why bother" of it all.
Want the High School, have no place to put it. The Create A Monster Lab thing means we're going to see a lot of wonky eyed dolls when it's released. I almost can't wait.

Oh, and thank the gods the were kitties look better than they initially did. Now to hope this yay trend continues for them.
