Mixed bag again for lunch

impyIt's time for me to start and probably never finish another 30 Day Challenge! Only... I'm going to do this one in chunks. Basically, I'll answer til I get to a question that either requires some actual thought or some actual work, or I simply don't want to do at this point. Then we'll pick up sometime over the weekend?
1. Your favorite MH character:
Lagoona Blue
2. MH character you feel you are most like:
Ghoulia, though without the super fix all the problems all the time powers. Shy? Check. Misunderstood, sometimes literally? Check! Geeky? Mmhmm. And for awhile I had blue hair. Plus glasses!
3. Favorite MH girl:
Lagoona, baby. First love and also she's one of the few who isn't usually relegated to brainless to advance the story of the week. (She's just simply not shown.)
4. Favorite MH boy:
Um... trickier question than I would have thought. I loved original!Gil but they screwed him up so bad. So, so bad. ;_; (Early Gil is nothing like current Gil, k?) But he's the best of the dolls so there's that. I like Billy in the books. I'm going with Early!Gil and doll!Gil.
5. Favorite MH doll collection.
And by collection we mean line? *thinks* Scary Tales has the awesome box art and nifty extras, but I think my heart remains true to Dead Tired, w1. For whatever reason, I love doll pjs. I love the slumber party theme. I love the dolls themselves as each one is either my favorite version of that particular character OR top 3. They did so much right. :D
6. Recommend a MH website or blog:
Umm... no. I don't really visit any since I get my news via the mh comm or the Hangout.
The next two require some thought, so I'll leave you here.
In other news, I think Kiss The Dead will be my final venture into Anita Blake territory. I've been waiting to see if she could fix the course of the books, or work with it instead of blindly standing still and the answer is: not to my liking. Anita is more insufferable than ever and we've deteriorated to the point that she's taking other characters down with her.
Case in point:
The book opens with vampires holding a teen girl hostage. Things go ass over teakettle and we end up with a bunch of vampires who need to be properly killed and more who need to be interrogated. Despite the fact that Anita admits the plan they come up with is evil, she gets pissier than hell when Larry (remember him? He's the guy she was teaching to be a necromancer when LKH remembered that Anita used to do things other than screw the dead/undead/furry) refuses to essentially torture the vampires to get the information they need.
Never mind the fact that he's actually sticking up for the vampires who aren't dead yet (well, dead again? Dead permanently?) and Anita's always going on and on about how no one ever thinks of a vampire as having rights and here's Larry, not willing to violate those same rights! No, no. No. We need to go ahead and take Larry down completely. He and Anita have their differences of opinion. Larry refuses to believe that the end results justify the evil means used to get there. Anita would rather sully her soul rather than have an innocent life lost because she was afraid to get her hands dirty.
And that right there would have been enough to fracture their friendship, or at least put it on shaky ground, or HELL, we could have an adult conversation where Anita realizes, not for the first, second, or fifty-seventh time that maybe it's better that she's the monster so people like Larry don't have to be.
It started out that way but ended up with Larry warning off a new marshal who was seeking Anita out, so of course people have to stand up for Anita and Larry looks like the crazy person in this equation.
Really, Hamilton? Who was Larry based on and why don't you like them anymore? Because this is just excessive. It's pretty much the assassination of Ronnie all over again. I gather she was going for the "woe is Anita, her life is so hard that even her friends turn on her" but instead we end up in "you're in the wrong and you're still trying to play this off like you're the wounded little victim. The hell is going on here?" valley.
It's just... oi. I can't. I just can't anymore. I'll finish this one out just to see if by some miracle it gets better, but otherwise I'm done. I'll check back in if Damian shows up again, or if LKH grows up and realizes you can't have your heroine be the monster and still glorify it. Not in the playground she set up, anyway. I just want to shake this woman and that's not healthy.
