The upshot: I am now angry enough to go destroy eleventy billion boxes, no problem. The downside:

July 13, 2013, you have been fired. Not just in that normal "ha, it's now the next day!" way but in that "you have shamed the date of 7/13" forever. First you kill the nice guy from Glee and then you let a murderer go free because Florida's just that fucked up?

Someone wake me when Zimmerman gets killed so I can down a shot of something in celebration.

This past month or so has been so completely, utterly shitty not just for international news, but for the personal lives of many people I know. Dammit, we really need the August silly season to be damned good and cheer us up, because June and July have been an effing write-off.

I think what pisses me off most about the Zimmerman case is that he obviously killed Trayvon. That wasn't even in question - he did it. But the jury couldn't convict him even if they wanted to (and I'm sure they did) because of the way the laws are written. This is what's broken about our justice system - we're not allowed to punish obvious crimes because of words. I didn't watch the trial even though it was on the TV in our break room because I personally don't derive entertainment from exploiting a family's misery, but from the glimpses I caught I knew he would be acquitted because he claimed self-defense and fear for his life and unfortunately there's just no way in a court of law to prove that he actually felt that way in that moment. I'm sure he was lying through his teeth but since they couldn't prove it that created "reasonable doubt" and they were forced to acquit. Doesn't mean they liked doing it, and it doesn't mean it was the right verdict, but it was the one the law forced them to make. And that sucks.

However, I do think Zimmerman's days are numbered. Nobody likes a child killer, even hardened criminals, and with all the gun happy loons in Florida somebody is bound to take him out sooner or later. Casey Anthony too. Where the hell is Dexter when you need him?
