AG Stuff, Holiday 2013 Edition
Aug. 27th, 2013 11:17 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Oh, hey, you know what time it is? Adventure Time! New AG stuff time! I thought I'd do things a bit differently and basically run down the new stuff the way it's presented on the new!stuff page. Til I get bored, anyway. You can play along here if you'd like.
I should preface this with the fact that I'm not really paying attention to the BIG release at the moment. They revamped Bitty Baby at an incredible price jump that I'm torn on whether or not I hope it bites them in the arse. On the one hand, BB should not be $80. Especially when the banner for the BB section still says they're $55. (edit: Well, it did at the time I started this. See?) A new face mold and book does not equal that much of a price jump, people. :/ BB was a way a lot of parents could dip their toes in the AG water without going all in right off the bat. Personally, I was never a big Bitty fan because I didn't think she was worth $55, so ramping up the price isn't helping that cause.
On the other hand, one doesn't want a line to fail so horribly it might kill everyone else, y'know? And I don't know how important BB is to the company's well being. (See: Girl of the Year is the big moneymaker that allows for the Historical line to continue to have nice things in the way of Addy, Kaya, Josefina, Cecile, and Marie-Grace who don't sell all that well on their own but are damn important.)
Onward to newness!

Cocunut Fun Outfit $28
She can let her love for Coconut shine! This cute and sparkly casual outfit includes:
A long-sleeved tee with a cute Coconut graphic inside a silver-studded star
Twill magenta shorts that can be worn alone or layered
Knit gray leggings for a stylish look
Ballet-flat shoes
A pink plaid headband to sweep her hair back
A "Fair" square charm for the doll's charm-keeper necklace.
I included the description for those who don't want to go to the site and leave me (♥) and also because I wanted to make it clear that you do get shoes with this without showing a third image of just the shoes close up. :p
I don't like this outfit all together, but I believe that in pieces and mixed and matched with other elements, it'll be fantastic. It's going right on my Wish List near the top because while it does have a massive dose of pink, it does include other colors as well. Plus, y'know, cute.

Gymnastics Set $85
Also known as: screw you, people who bought McKenna's Beam and Bar set just to sell it for a gazillion dollars on ebay. :P As near as I can tell (without anyone having bought one to have on hand just yet) this is identical to McKenna's set, just in different colors.

Gymnastics Outfit: $24
Her doll will "flip" for this gymnastics uniform! It features:
A fuchsia, white, and blue leotard with satin stripes and an Innerstar University™ logo at the hip
A fabric scrunchie to keep her hair neat
Gymnastics slippers to wear at meets
A silvery medal that hangs around her neck on a striped ribbon
A certificate to show she did her best
A "Strong" heart charm for the doll's charm-keeper necklace
It's a gymnastics outfit not in eye searing colors like McKenna's. Woo? Unsure if want for Ivy. It's nothing super flashy, but it's also not lime freakin' green either so that's a plus for me. I think this is one I'm looking forward to seeing other people buy and what other dolls look like in it before I make up my mind. Unless it goes on sale and then, well, I'm sure Ms. Ling will be sporting a new outfit.

Polar Bear Pajamas: $24
Let it snow—her My American Girl® doll will stay cozy in these pajamas, featuring:
A frosty blue tunic top, featuring button details and contrast lace trim
Full-length leggings with winter polar bear graphics
A pair of fleece-lined knit slippers with furry cuffs to keep her toes toasty
Two terry hairbands to pull back her hair while she gets ready for bed
A "Real" square charm for the doll's charm-keeper necklace
This is the outfit that wouldn't load last night, which is why you didn't get this update last night. I'm going to guess these are semi-limited, so if you just fell in love and want to buy them, don't assume they'll have the traditional shelf life of most of the MyAG stuff (two years, fyi). Odds are good that by the time the January catalog is sent out after the holidays, this will be either sold out or "sold out". The latter means it'll go on sale next year when they mysteriously find a bunch in a warehouse or something, and this will happen only if I buy it. The winter pajamas released at the same time as the holiday dresses are rarely kept for very long for whatever reason.
All that being said, I'm torn on the outfit itself. As I so often am for the holiday pajama release. I have the Valentine's pajamas that use those boots (in pink) and they're adorable. But I don't really like the fluff breaking up the visual of the polar bear leggings. I also think I would have liked the shirt better without the trim. In fact, without the lace trim, I'd put it just under the Coconut outfit on my list of wants. But it does have it so we await owner pictures.

Spa Chair: $110
Ahahaha, no. You say salon chair, I say dentist's chair and not even that justifies that price tag. Nope, not even the thought of doll torture can convince me this is a good idea. But I do look forward to someone with the money to do that making a go of it.

Salon Stylist Set: $38
And also with the no. I have my mini doll water spritz bottle and some curlers, but thank you.

Salon Center: $49
Pretty sure they just keep re-releasing this thing in different colors and I keep saying no.

Frosty Fair Isle Set: $30
Time to run outside for frosty fun! This cozy, chic set includes:
A knit sweater with a Fair Isle pattern at the shoulders and hem
Stretchy leggings
A pair of fleece boots with dangly snowflake appliques
A sweater-knit headband to keep her ears toasty
A "Strong" heart charm
Oh look, they put it on the doll someone has used as the Wakefield twins! (I'd link it, but frick if I know where the albums are anymore. WOE.) I love so very much about this and yet... and yet if it's cold enough that you're going to try and hawk a puffy jacket as an accessory to this set:

She should have actual pants and not leggings. I get that dolly layering is difficult because vinyl doesn't give the way people do, but... leggings if it's cold enough to bundle her up in every other way? Are you kidding me?
I wants though. I wants a lot. My shame is great.

Puffy Jacket: $24
And fingerless gloves! Mittens? Whatever. Cute but it'll depend on actual photos/seeing in person/there being a sale/it being a day that ends in y.

Snow Much Fun Set: $48
American Girl® dolls can have fun on wintry days! This frosty set includes:
A glittery snowgirl with a "carrot" nose
Two faux branches for arms
A "winter fun" sign
A knit ski hat to fit dolls or the snowgirl
Violet mittens to keep doll's fingers toasty warm—or to decorate the snowgirl's branches
An orange scarf to keep her cozy
A doll-sized snow tube with a colorful snowflake print, just for fun
This is a decided case of the price knocks this so out of the running that I can't look too closely at it because yeah, I'm not spending $50 on Chrissa's snow tube and a fake snowgirl with accessories you could use for your doll. (That part is pretty genius though.)

Sparkle Sequin Outfit: $30
I... don't know where to start with this, honestly. I just... what is going on? Sometimes I look and I think I see what they were going for and then I look closer and think "...no!" over and over. I like the hair clip, and if you're into the fact that it's a skirt and a shirt and not a dress, that could be a selling point. I kind of like the skirt but I'm not enamored of the shirt and the picture is doing the outfit no favors for me so... we'll move on to the entire reason this release exists!
2013 Holiday Outfits!

Holiday Accessories: $28
Make the season merry for her American Girl® doll! This festive set includes:
A candy-cane holiday card
A silvery doll-sized bracelet
A pretty gift box tied with a bow
A "homemade" felt tree trimmed with ornaments, standing on a tiny thread spool
A snowflake-embroidered stocking with beaded icicles at the top
A furry doll-sized shrug lined with satin for a fancy holiday look.
So... I always have a desire to buy the holiday accessories, even when I don't particularly care for them, simply because doll sized decorations and things are adorable. That said, I usually snap out of it immediately or upon looking at the price. I think this year they actually managed to work some magic. It's cheaper than last year's set (which didn't seem to sell that well if you take into consideration how many they had left over for clearance time) which was $32 and you could use the jacket for either of the two holiday dresses this year. You get a decoration, a card, and a stocking. Doll stocking! Plus the gift of doll jewelry that looks quite lovely.
So while that shade of green makes me wince when used as anything other than an accent green (paired with a darker shade of green), I think I'll be buying this. Final decision will depend on further research. ;)

Sparkle Party Dress: $36
Another year, another red dress. This is the dress that has a Bitty Baby counterpart. I won't spend too long complaining about the fact that you know what we didn't need? Another red dress. Nor will I complain too much about the price as that's been pretty standard for the last few years. Nope, this one has me a bit confused.
On the one hand, all of the things I won't harp on are concerns. As is the fact that nearly every year, AG pretends their red dress has sold out only to say later "nope, still here. Forever here." which means that if you pull the trigger and get it for the year it was released, you're likely to spent the next two years hating every one and everything. That said, I think the shoes were specifically designed to call to my inner six or seven year old who had a pair of sparkly red shoes and wore them EVERYWHERE. These things are glorious. They look to be what the holiday shoe set of 09 wished they were. Of course no one will know for certain until store reports and sets are bought.
I dislike the way they have the doll styled which is making it difficult to suss out whether I like the dress or not. I'm a sucker for sparkle and I haven't bought a lot of the red dresses so it's not like this one would break me. Sometimes I look at it and think "ha, no" and sometimes I think it's pretty if you ignore her hair. So... thoughts? Opinions?

Brocade Holiday Dress: $36
SOLD. It's like some of my favorite outfits of the past that I missed out on got together and had an adorable baby. It's a shame the shoes are so basic, though. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaant. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is because I feel I should pull the trigger on part of the electric bill first and I'm dragging my feet on that for reasons. :P
It's a simple little dress and again, I think the hair is bringing the picture down, but this one is coming home this year. Soon. SOON, my precious. SOON.
All in all, a better release than I expected but not a lot that will likely follow me home at full prices.
