The tale of AG Went On Down to GA begins Tuesday evening around 6:15. Cass and Matt arrive and we drive off down the highway to the lovely sounds of Matt explaining to whomever was on the other end of the phone that he would not only be working the following day (AG day) but he would also be working the weekend he was previously supposed to be off because... he was giving all three days to the same co-worker. Aside from wanting the money, I never did understand the logic of this, but I assumed it was mostly "don't wanna go to girlie town and want money."
Cass immediately begins to flip her shit because "Do they know it's your anniversary?!"
Cass ain't thrilled because it's a five hour drive to Alpharetta which is where the mall with the AG store attached and she doesn't wanna drive the whole way. (Spoiler: she doesn't.) Wake up time is set to be 6:15AM so we can get to Matt's job for him to check the tires before we head off.
Sadly, by the time we do get out on the road and take Matt in, 5-26 is backed up for a mile or so... and thus we end up at the Target for sunglasses. Instead Cass walks out with the new Skylanders game and the Halloween figure.
And back to the road we go! I'll spare you the play by play, but we did have a near banjo moment in Orangeburg where we turned off on an exit looking for... something? Gas station, probably, and instead found buzzards and dogs criss-crossing the road. Meep!
Breakfast at Bojangles where I swear the couple across the restaraunt from me couldn't have been more than 16 (and that was pushing it) but they were driving so... and she, of course, was the one driving the huge ass pickup. For the sake of the story, I will say that he put something that looked an awful lot like a gun case in the back of her truck... and away the lovebirds went.
On the road again... We introduced z to the wonders of Cheerwine and Faygo sodas and I finally got my Barq's Rootbeer.
Back on the road...til we hit the rest stop that Cass decided would be the perfect place to give z a crash course in stick shift driving. As that is really her story to tell, I will say nothing more than this: If Cass offers you the same thing, make sure she puts the car in reverse, okay? Otherwise z drove very well and never once did I have to employ the "Oh Jesus!" handles. The same was not said for Cass when turning onto or off of exits. *cough*
The Original Plan was to hit the store mid-week and before school let out to avoid the school children, because I'm gonna let you in on a secret: little girls who can afford AG dolls as kids? They're brats. :P But naturally we didn't roll into town until 3 in the afternoon and... children. Not swarming or anything, but children. Also, the traffic was already impossible. Remember that bit about the traffic, k?
Cass wanted to see about getting Destiny's hair styled. Destiny is #11 and has pretty straight hair. Originally she'd planned on getting Kanani's hair fixed but I did that free of charge. (And I think I did a fairly good job, considering the kitten was helping.) I also warned her that the doll hair salon thing is like, eleven jillion dollars. I wanna say that a plain ponytail is $10? It's ridiculous no matter what it actually is.
She also wanted the dolly weave for her dolls. She has Sonali, Destiny, and Kanani. Sonali and D both have black hair. You'll notice black is not an option. Which I also warned her about, though I did admit that it was possible "dark brown" would be close enough since the only doll with black hair I saw it near was Addy and her hair is an entirely different thing sooooo...

Yeah. First we hit the bathroom and yes! We have doll holder picture! But it's right near the damn toilet. This is a very, very bad idea for so many reasons I cannot begin to list them all beyond "It's Right By The Toilet." I'm pretty sure they moved them from on the back of the door because I do not remember being stabbed by them the first time I visited an AG bathroom.

This won't end badly, I'm sure.
And then we entered the store proper like. And ran into Saige's balloon, which z ultimately decided the cats did not need. I can't really say much about the store and the layout other than Molly was only in smaller displays because she's on the way out. Why cannot I say much?
Because about four minutes into me trying to decide whether Saige's awesome eyes and freckles, plus possibly the wig (all that pink really does create a horrible orange lighting problem!) were enough to overcome the part where she looked "soulless" in person, Cass comes storming over, fuming that a) the hair salon is expensive as hell and that they don't have dolly weave in black.
I'm gonna redirect you to the part where I Told You So. I tried not to say it in so many words but what part of "expensive as hell and the doll weave doesn't come in black" was not clear? So... I try and soothe her because all is not lost! They only had four colors on display and look, the lady at the salon told you exactly how to recreate your favorite hair style, free of charge! There is bound to be something in this vast expanse of pink and stars that was worth a five hour drive, mmkay? So let us find that, all right?
Yeaaaaah, other than agreeing that Saige was somehow not as good in execution as she was in theory, things went further south. I split my time between keeping an eye on Cass who seemed to very much want to Leave Now and z who was incredibly good at disappearing despite having very stand out hair.
I started to panic a bit because I'd actually come in to pick out Saige for a couple of reasons.
1) Twinses with z! Only... z no want Saige and I figured her eyes weren't a good enough reason to buy her.
2) I thought maybe picking out a classic mold doll would make me love her more than "surprise, your least favorite mold is here!" delivery.
With Saige off the table, I... didn't know who to get. Despite wanting Molly and knowing she was my backup. I think I kept forgetting about Molly because her displays were really, really small and unlike some of the other smaller displays, they weren't super dynamic either.

Look at that. Look at that! Ivy's about to go all Thelma and Louise on us!

Ignore the part where she's not in the driver's seat, okay? To freedom, Ivy! Freedom!
Afterwards I found out that z was also in panic mode only she was at least productive while I floated from one end of the store to the other, sorta, observing things like a little girl with her mother in front of the Julie display:
"Look, I had that exact same outfit when I was your age."
"Wait, you guys seriously wore stuff like this? "
"Seriously."
And the family who came specifically to see Caroline's holiday outfit (which is why I don't think I have a picture of it. I meant to come back once they were done but then Cass kept her "We need to hurry up now!" thing and I couldn't remember what I'd photographed already.
And then there was the woman who bitched about how expensive everything was and the poor salesgirl (this was the only part I got to hear) had to roll out the "we stand by our quality products, ma'am" speech. Yes, this stuff is overpriced but you know who can't do anything about it? Store associates, that's who.
So... it was a little rushed (so we could go and just sit in the mall. WTF) but I learned a few things. One, Ivy is cute as hell. Wait, I knew that. Well, there's the incredibly weird Caroline conundrum. On the one hand, she's pale as pale can be and the white blond hair isn't doing her any favors... and yet I liked a few of them. I also thought a few of them would tear out my heart and feast on it so... she's definitely a hit or miss. When she's good, she's very, very good, and when she's bad, she's the stuff of nightmares.
Picture time!

Took this as we were leaving because one should always have a shot of the building. We actually made it there pretty safely and the only issue with the directions was once we got to the mall, it wanted us to go all the way around and Cass said "eff this, we're going to the right."
Anyway, the store does stand out.
We begin in Bittyville.

We have one of the new bitty babies blending in with her stroller. These were just hanging out on the sales floor. When you come in the door (not the one in the actual mall) Bittyville is to your right while the books and movies are still to the front and left. The light fixtures above did change, but I didn't get a shot of those.

Bitty twins. If BTs are your thing, I'd get them before Jan 1, 2014. It sounds like they'll also be getting a price hike to match Bitty Baby's.

Can't figure out if I would have found this genius during my brief "baby doll!" phase or not.

Bitty burrito!

BB wants to go home with you.

Probably to escape this... creature.

The stuffed animal is bigger than Bitty.

I think the bunny is cute though. The baby's outfit I could see being worn by quite a few of the women in the store at the time.

This isn't as cute in person as it was in photos. It's still cuter in this crappy picture than it is in person.

This is the only time in recorded history where I think blond bitty girl looks cute. Those juice boxes are huuuuuuuuge, too.

I like to think that she's put her brother to work making all these cookies and she is not pleased at the outcome.

These are actually really cute outfits.
After the run to the bathroom, we return with Saige!

And her rope braid. She looks super plain here, huh?

Sorry, the flash and I had issues and this was during one of C's footstomping moments. This shows you a good chunk of her accessories thrown on all at once.

Her dog is adorable. He and Meatloaf are on my very short list of things I Need. (and despite thinking the shirt is absolutely blah in person, I keep seeing pictures and wanting. Damn you, pigtails!)

Saige is into painting, remember? And dressing like an old lady.

Saige's hot air balloon is very plasticy but I completely understand why.

This thing is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. Which is why it will never come home with me and why I will secretly love it forever.

Saige has gold boots, Cecile has gold boots, Girl of the Year 2014 has gold sneakers, what is going on?
Julie

I'm still unsure which of these items Ivy will claim. The 70's were an ugly time in history, guys. Just ugly.

Again, sorry about the flash. I love Julie's rabbit. :D

Dammit, Bret Michaels, you've made it so that I see bandanas on blondes and I think of you.
Josefina

Josefina's newer outfit.

Either none of the pictures of Josefina's display turned out or I just didn't get any. People kept walking in front of it to get to someone else's and since neither z nor I was getting Josefina... we didn't really circle back. They did, apparently, either get rid of the Josefina I fell in love with ages ago, or she was in another display I just didn't see.
Addy

Figures they were out of Addy's nightgown as this display made me want it hardcore. It's a cute scene though. She looks all cozy and... I'm getting tired. Oh, and z assembled my Addy's bed. Ozma kitty declined to hop onto or under it though. :(

Addy's display is looking a little empty these days. I think the Addy in her blue dress is super pretty.

Not sure why I felt the need to zoom in on pie but mmm, pie.
Cecile & Marie Grace

I... do not recall many people looking at this, or any, C&MG display. Which is a shame because I still think Cecile has one of the prettiest Meet dresses ever. It's a weird collection though, I will grant them that.

Cece's pet bird!

Cece would like you to stop taking pictures of her so she can bathe and then go crash with MG for some sleep.

She's so cute! It's such a bitch to take pictures in this store!
Kit

I wasn't a huge fan of this display. Most of the dolls in it didn't appeal to me (and yes, I'm one of those people who can tell the difference between two dolls of the same character.) I do want that frou frou dress for Ruthie, though.

Lookit! The poor dolls together! And Ruthie. The 'presents' are the holiday dresses in gift wrap.
Rebecca

Just look at all that shimmer!

Not a huge fan of Rebecca's stuff. Based on rumours, I am apparently not alone. I do like the white lace one and the school outfit is cute.

This is what sold me on Rebecca. Only I was already sold... I think she's beautiful though her cats are scary.
Caroline

Caroline was the second most popular character *I* noticed there. Groups came in just for her stuff.

I... cannot blame them, honestly. I think her stuff is fab. It's the doll I'm not sold on.

I could do without her bed and bedding... and cat, though I do appreciate the cat not being a dog.

I have two potential gift ideas for z. One is the super angry calf, Garnet. (Garnet the red calf will maim you and you will like it.) I keep coming back to Garnet for laughs, it's true.
AGOT/JLY/MyAG

If you buy all three outfits at the same time, you get a free pair of sunnies and the purse. Usually they make you pay extra for the right to own something so... that's a thing. This set up is very Jawbreaker for me and I dunno why other than the super bright colors. That might be it right there.

Polar bear jamas! I wonder if one could snip the rick rack off the shirt? (z got these and the shoes are super soft.)

Cass likes this enough to consider it for mix and match purposes. I think it's too bitty baby-ish, though the pants might be nice.

Jamas that do nothing for me. :(

#26 needs a nap.

Spa package?

Random outside activities!

I'm not sure you should be doing science projects while eating lunch... (I dreamt about the outfit #58 is wearing last night. Weird.)

Not sure how the red dress didn't get photographed! D:

Headgear is no one's friend. And the husky is scaring me but Meatloaf is adorable.

Halloween!

Wall o' hair.

Gymnasts at work. Also, AG, you know who else is a gymnast? Ivy. How about we get her some gymnastics stuff, k?

A view from the fishbowl.

A little to the right.

Outdoors! I meant to look at the scenery but this was when Cass was trying to get help finding dolly weave. I think #46 is super cute in the blue puffy jacket.

Because you're a pretty, pretty princess.

They are really pushing the hair highlights set.

For some reason the brunette on the side is cracking me up.

#53 is really pretty. Love her!

I wish I'd realized they had 53 and 28 in the same display. They are essentially the same doll only 28 is a shade darker skin wise and hair wise. And they're both adorable.

Cass is in the background checking out the birthday option. (#54 is essentially Ivy with longer hair.)

Cece, stop creeping.

$33. Are you... and I... serious?

After... Cheerleader has seen things she can never unsee. True story.

Before. And yes, I did that backwards because it amuses me. These two were set up to the left of the After shot and it really looked like Lacrosse and Softball were out for blood. The lacrosse set is the other gift I'm considering for z because who doesn't need this kind of violence in doll form?
Which only leaves...
Molly:

After awhile of panicking, Cass reminded me of Molly and I asked her to pick me a good one. (She did. Mine is adorable.) She then went around to all the displays she could find to see if I really did have all the outfits I needed/wanted. Check.

Check.

Check. Check. Check!

And finally, z had each of us take our picture with Saige. I thought I had one of z at some point but all I seem to have is the partial beach one and one on my phone. But here, have a shot of Cass and D with her ears newly pierced. Oh, and Saige, who is going to paint the sky red with blood.
Annnnnnnnnnd for those who wanted to know, Cass got Destiny's ears pierced, z picked a fabulously adorable Rebecca, and Cass picked me out an adorable Molly. (Side note: during picking of the Molly, some guy walks by and gestures to the Molly box with a dent in it and says, "I kicked that one." )

Date: 2013-11-01 05:38 pm (UTC)I need Rebecca. I have just decided this. I actually don't hate her outfits, but I agree that others have better ones. What I'd likely do (if I ever had the money of course) is get Rebecca and then just buy other outfits I like. I'll never have the money or space for my own AG Army like you have, but I would really love Rebecca, Josefina, and Cecile.
Also on my need list (though knowing me they'll get retired before I can ever afford a doll) are Cecile's fairy costume, the polar bear pajamas, the ice skating dress outfit, Saige's pink dress and gold boots, the Halloween orange tutu outfit, and the red holiday dress with the sparkly shoes of awesome that you showed in a previous post. I'm sure I could come up with more outfits, but this is mostly based just on what's shown here. I would love to go to an AG store, though I'd need to take someone with me to keep me and my budget in check. :D
Do you know if dolls ever go on sale for Cyber Monday? I'm thinking that's the only way I'll be able to afford one. Didn't you get Marie-Grace for relatively cheap that way?

Date: 2013-11-01 06:29 pm (UTC)Cecile and Marie Grace have gone on sale at least three times, if not a fourth time. They just recently went on sale for another of those Jill's Deals things but I didn't find out about it until after it was over. :( I will say that with Christmas coming up, odds are good that Cecile's fairy costume will be going on sale. (Their stuff lives on sale, sad to say.)
Of the outfits you have listed, the only one that won't make it much longer is Saige's pink dress, probably followed by the polar pajamas though they might be the odd pair of holiday-ish pajamas that do last. (Usually those only last til the new year, if that long.) I'd bet, though not anything more than bragging rights, that the red holiday dress will linger, and Cecile's fairy costume is not the outfit of hers that's rumored to be next on the chopping block. If I hear of the ice skating dress going on sale, I'll let you know. I love it, but I refuse to spend the price they're asking.
*looks at credit card statement* I am clearly not the person to take with you to an AG store to keep you on budget. :P
Rebecca love! I think the three you've picked are all lovely.

Date: 2013-11-01 09:34 pm (UTC)Now I need to see pictures of your Molly and any new clothes you bought! :D

Date: 2013-11-02 07:44 pm (UTC)And pictures will be taken tomorrow, come rain or shine. I didn't really get a lot beyond Molly herself though, but she'll be happy to show off what I did buy. :)

Date: 2013-11-03 03:49 pm (UTC)AG needs to offer some options. First, they need to lower their price point by a LOT. These dolls are cute but how are they worth $124? Second, there needs to be an option where you can get the doll with or without the book (and without would be a bit cheaper). Meh. I love Rebecca, but I just can't justify that price point. Grrrrr.

Date: 2013-11-04 08:11 pm (UTC)Sadly, instead of lowering their prices, they'll most likely be jacking the prices up again come the new year. :( If you decide you really want Rebecca come holiday gift time, let me know and I'll get you a gift card so you won't be paying as much.

Date: 2013-11-06 01:50 am (UTC)The more I see Julie, the more I see Dawn...and the more intrigued I am. GAH! I need to break out my BSC dolls because you are giving me a craving! :P (I wish I could find Jessi - she was scarce the year they came out and she's the only one I don't have.)
CAROLINE'S BLUE PEACOAT DRESS THING! I'd wear that... *sigh*
I think it'd be fascinating to go to an AG store with you. I can't tell the difference between the dolls but it sounds like something pretty cool (if annoying, as a collector).
Yayz for Molly, too! :D :D :D
