Kit's Candy Making Set

Remember how I said I bought Kit's new outfit/accessory set? Well, it came yesterday and today Ruthie and I cracked into it. Sadly, the light was fading but I think you'll get the general idea.
Spoilers: ♥

The box. I was actually most curious about this. Would it be a wider box than usual, like some of Felicity's dresses would come in since they didn't fold up well? Would it be super deep like Kirsten's wreath box? Because this is an outfit and a fairly substantial set of accessories, y'know?

Nope. We're talking normal box here. Not one of the smaller boxes, but nothing larger than the average sized box as far as I could tell. It's heavy but that's probably because...

They crammed that sucker full!

All this was lurking beneath the dress.

And this is what they look like when taken out of the box, but left in their plastic bags.

Dress, not on doll. Behold the pink! Behold the flounce!

And the back of the dress, still not on a doll.

Shoes are pink and plastic and, y'know, doll shoes. They're cute and if this had been marketed as Ruthie's dress, I wouldn't say anything beyond the pink comment. But I don't see Kit having pink shoes, dammit. People are all over trying to justify the pink dress, "she's a doll!" or "well, she wouldn't have much of a choice in what she was given to wear, now would she?" but I think those arguments counteract one another. She IS a doll, so there's no reason she can't be given a color she'd be likely to WANT to wear as a character. In reality you do have to make do but she's a doll! She could have had a blue or a green or even a yellow dress!
Anyway.

Not sure if you can see it, but American Girl is embossed on the sole.

Tada!

Even with the serious price wincing over this set, I vastly prefer this dress to the last dress I purchased for Ruthie. The pink looks spectacular on her.

The back of the dress. Bonus points are given because this is a dress where it's easy to get both sides to Velcro up and match properly.

I don't recall ever being a seriously pink kind of girl, but I kinda love this shade on Miss Smithens. She just looks so pretty. :D
I'm also not super knowledgeable about fashion through the ages (woe!) and I would never look at this dress and go, "1930's, right?" BUT the dress itself is very nice. The fabric doesn't catch on my fingers, it's not obnoxiously shimmery or anything, and is just a very nice looking dress.

The dress is lined, if that's your thing. Which adds some weight to the outfit and also makes it seem worth more. Plus no embarrassing see-through flash moments. ;)

Accessories out of their bags, mostly. I'm not up for putting together the purple bags and their ribbons, so for now they'll stay neatly in their packaging. Everything else, however, is fair game.

You've got your box of chocolate with four blocks of chocolate inside. You have three chocolate rabbits that actually fit in the mold (eee!) and yes, the mold pops open and then closes. (the silver thing off to the far left is one of the slide on clasps to keep it closed.)

Chocolate bunny on the other side of the mold. Seriously, who knew I would be so giddy over a chocolate bunny mold? Go figure. But now I want chocolate. Dammit.

5 cents, ladies and gents. This is the box, clearly.

Double boiler.

And another shot. They're plastic pieces but I don't imagine anyone actually expected them not to be plastic, right?

And here's the chocolate being coaxed into the pot! Only it's too big to fit into the double boiler because the bar doesn't break. *twitch* Wtf, Mattel.

Basket! With bunny inside.

Ruthie can hold the chocolate bunnies. :D
Now. Let's get down to the opinions, shall we? This set is $64 and I can't say I'm fully on board with this pricing for any of the other sets aside from maybe Rebecca's. Kit's, however, gives you a crapton of accessories along with a very pretty dress that honestly reads as more modern than historical, so there's not really any datedness to worry about.
I paid shipping (ohnoes!) for this and I regret nothing. I think the dress is beautiful and I'd imagine it would look lovely on a wide variety of dolls. I'm not so sure about the redheads like Felicity or Saige, but just about everyone else seems like a possibility. It comes with shoes so you get what passes for a complete outfit these days. (Shoes + outfit.)
Then you have the candy making side of things. You get three rabbits, a mold to pretend to make more, some chocolate blocks, a box to feel all vintage-y about it, a spoon, some bags to make some easter basket deliveries, and a double boiler for doll kitchen needs. If one of the chocolate blocks were pre-partially melted or they broke in half, I'd be a little happier as it would make playing pretend easier and more realistic. As it is, I'm stupidly happy over the bunny mold so...
I give this whole thing a solid A. If it were ten bucks cheaper (or free shipping time) or marketed for Ruthie instead of Kit, I'd consider it damn near perfect. As it is, I recommend buying it before they pull it from shelves but I'd imagine you've got a little time before that happens.
