The ever amazing
zallia has reminded me that today is new AG stuff day! Today's release is actually fairly large because it contains the back to school items as well as the redesigned pet line.
Oh, and the worst kept secret in AG history (well, that might be a slight exaggeration), #61 finally makes her first official appearance.
Let's begin with the doll.

#G0605
Fucking. Classic. Mold. *headdesk* Unlike Saige or Felicity or any of the MyAGs with "red" hair, #61 here has red hair. It's not strawberry blond (Nellie!) or auburn that looks brown unless you hold it up to sunlight and inspect very, very carefully. Straight up red of the natural variety.
Oh, AG. THIS is what I wanted when I ordered HTA many, many moons ago. But she would come to life and kill me if I replaced her. So I'm left with the impossible choice of "do I buy her and scalp her?" or ignore her forever. I'm hoping someone buys her, scalps her, and throws the wig on MG so I can see what that looks like since my MG custom has yet to fully gel.
Those are the criminally underused dark green eyes, btw. So, really, if she were anything other than classic, I'd be requiring someone to hold me down to keep me from spending the money.
Seriously, AG. You have other molds. Utilize them.

Isabelle's Sparkle Dress
Item# BJY67 // $36
Isabelle's performance ensemble shimmers and sparkles with her own special style. This outfit includes:
A dress with sequins all over the leotard, plus an attached skirt of floaty tulle and sequin accents
A silvery metal hair clip that shines with rhinestones and glitter-print tulle
Pink ballet slippers with silvery sequin trim
A pink beaded bracelet

I thought I was going to like this a lot more than I did when I first saw the thumbnail picture of it. Closer inspection makes the leo look weird. I'll keep an eye on owner pictures, but as it stands, I'm more interested in her other outfits.

Isabelle's Makeup Set
Item# BJY69 // $36
Isabelle has everything she needs to shine in the spotlight! This shiny black case features fancy scrollwork and a metallic "Isabelle" graphic. Plus, it has a mirrored top compartment and two additional drawers to store her gear. The complete set includes:
A black makeup case with multiple compartments
A pretend makeup palette built into the bottom drawer
A makeup brush
Pretend lip gloss
A sparkly purple hair pick
A doll-sized faux spray bottle
Six hairbands
Two sheets of nail stickers to give Isabelle a temporary manicure
Two sheets of "gem" stickers to decorate the case

For more than the cost of a makeup case at work (and we're overpriced), you can get a doll sized one. Woo? It's black, which is appealing, but otherwise the price tag alone says, "Keep away." So I will. I wish the little spray bottle worked because that'd be awesome. I understand that it's probably a bitch to make a working one in that scale though. Plus side, if you caved and bought this set, you could use the brush to keep dust off your doll's face.
Short of a sale, I will not be buying this. Kid!me, however, would have been a little bit envious of anyone who did get to buy it. Doll scale stuff, y'know, is crack.
Isabelle also gets a fashion sketchbook but you're not here for that.

Coconut Cutie Outfit for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0606 // $30
Let your girl's doll show her pet-savvy style! This outfit includes:
A cute tee featuring a Coconut™ graphic with foil-print glasses, a real ribbon bow, and a glittery message
A coral skirt with rosettes and a mesh overlay
Shoes with crisscross straps
Two bow-shaped barrettes
A round "Confident" charm

I'm not a huge fan of orange but this outfit is rather cute and I kinda like it. I say kinda because I think this one could go either way in terms of cuteness in person. I like the Coconut tee, although Coconut looks nothing like that anymore. The shoes are giving me flashbacks to shoes I used to have (print wise, not style wise) and I'm not thinking that's a good thing. :P Price wise, it's not awful but I don't see anything about it that makes it a $30 outfit. It should be a $24 outfit but the only thing that costs that much these days are pajamas so...
Also, should have glasses. When/if this sucker goes on sale, I'll probably jump on it. Don't judge.

Starry Hoodie Outfit for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0610 // $30
Her favorite anytime outfit is starry and bright! This set includes:
A cozy hoodie with a crossover neckline and high-low hem
Extra-long jeggings covered with blue stars
Ballet-flat shoes with contrasting glitter toe caps
A three-color braided headband
A round "Loyal" charm

Ohmy. I just... I don't... Where to begin? You can't really tell, but there's an orange and yellow braided headband on the doll's head because absolutely none of those colors exist elsewhere in the outfit so why not use them? The use of the word jeggings! Mullet hoodie!
*facepalm* Actually, this one is probably better when seperated. I dig the leggings, I swoon for the shoes, and the hoodie isn't bad, it's just reminding me of another outfit (purple sweater + leggings combo) that did nothing for me. So instead of seeing this for what it is, I'm seeing that outfit. Oi. My head is crowded.
On sale, I'd probably buy it for the bits. Full price? Probably not. I do dig the shoes, though.

School Stripes Dress for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0614 // $28
Perfect for class—and recess! This outfit includes:
A sweet and sporty striped knit dress with a layered look
Doodle-covered high-top tennis shoes
A heart-shaped "Smart" charm

I wish the dress was actually layered and not a "layered look". The shoes are cute. The dress feels a bit young. I think it could be done super cute and I think it could land squarely in the "oh, honey, no" camp, too.

Bright Stripes Outfit for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0618 // $38
Perfect for back-to-school! This smart outfit includes:
A sporty striped jacket
Jeans with fun patches to show her creative side
A glitter screen-print tee
A sparkle-ribbon belt
Pink ballet-flat shoes with shimmery silver-colored heart cutouts
A rectangle "Loyal" charm

Why do I like you, outfit? You're damn near $40! WHY DO I LIKE YOU? *weeps*

Petals & Plaid PJ's for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0640 // $24
Dreamtime calls for super-cute pajamas! This outfit includes:
A jersey-knit top with tank straps for a mock-layered look, and a flower graphic for a pop of color
Wide-leg satin pants in a pretty plaid
Faux-suede moccasin slippers with velvet bows
A heart-shaped "Real" charm

I like the top. The pants are pretty busy. I think I'm getting a little seasick looking at them, though. I bet people sized versions of those shoes would be warm but they remind me of my dad's slippers (only in pink) and those were always pretty fug sooooo... I like the shirt.

2-in-1 Cheer Gear for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0659 // $48
Your girl can mix and match to create two spirited outfits! Her doll will shout her best cheers in this set, which includes:
A sleeveless cheer dress with glitter and foil accents on the front, plus ribbon details
A long-sleeved mock-neck top with glitter graphics
Fitted elastic waist pink shorts
Sneaker-style white shoes with pink accents, soles, and elastic laces
Pompoms
A megaphone she can really hold
A hair ribbon
Star stickers for her face
Glitter stickers to personalize her accessories
A heart-shaped "Fair" charm

Dammit. I actually really like this set but there's no way in HELL I'm paying $50 for it. I could probably con myself into it if I really tried (it's two outfits with one pair of shoes) but I don't like to encourage AG to price jack things. I didn't buy their 2-in-1 skating set til it was on sale and I'm going to try to refrain on this. I said try...

Skateboarding Set for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0657 // $42
Girls can get their dolls ready for skateboarding fun! This set includes:
A sporty jersey dress with a mock tee underneath, a star graphic, and a drop waist with ribbed trim
Stretchy jersey leggings
Two-tone high-top sneakers
A skateboard with wheels that really roll and elastic straps to secure her feet
Decorative stickers to personalize her board
A rectangle "Brave" charm

I love that AG always pictures the skateboarding sets with short haired dolls. :P I preferred the other set but I think this one would look better on another doll, so that's likely not helping. Passing on it either way, though. (I feel I should probably point out that since I'm broke, my want meter seems to swing from "meh" to "WHYYYYYYYYYYYY" with possible outlook changes later on.)

Karate Class Set for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0661 // $38
Your girl's doll will be ready to practice her strength, balance, and quick thinking in this karate uniform! The set includes:
A wrap top with karate graphic
Matching pants that allow freedom of movement
A black belt to show her skills and hard work
A red kick pad to help her stay safe in practice
A red hairband
A square "Real" charm

Aww, cute. I'm good, but cute.

Item# G0649 // $30
Your girl can add a bit of sparkle to outdoor adventures with her doll! This outfit includes:
A sweater top with a sprinkling of sequins
Cuffed cargo shorts with lots of pockets and elastic cords at the cuffs
A slim faux-leather belt
Fringed fuchsia moccasins
A rectangle "Kind" charm

Pretty sure I've seen many a starlet wearing something similar around Coachella time. Still cute, still giving me 80's flashbacks with the top. I could do without the shoes but I'm not a fan of fringe so that probably factors in. On sale, I'd totally buy this.

Bee Myself Outfit for Dolls + Charm
Item# G0663 // $34
Her doll will be as sweet as honey in this cute bee costume! The outfit includes:
A dress with ruffle-trim stripes and an attached black and yellow tulle skirt
Striped jersey leggings
Woven satin sparkle wings with elastic straps to attach to her back
A headband with sparkly antennae
Black ballet shoes with yellow toe caps
Black-and-yellow-striped nail stickers
A round "Fair" charm
*dying of the cute* And now I also have the video for No Rain stuck in my head. Screw you, AG! But thank you for not putting it on the curly redhead because then I'd really have it stuck in my head.

I... might order this. *cough* I might not. But costumes are a weakness...
And that's where we leave off because I need sleep.
Oh, and the worst kept secret in AG history (well, that might be a slight exaggeration), #61 finally makes her first official appearance.

Date: 2014-06-27 07:45 pm (UTC)Goodish news? #61 isn't doing it for me the way I thought she would. I think it's that version of the classic mold that I hate. I'm in the midst of changing clothes (pics soon! Just have the clothes are in a bin under dvds, so only half have their summer oufits) and pulled out Saige and like her even more than I remembered. So glad luck of the mail didn't send the ones that looked like ATL. But all the 61s I'm seeing have that classic mold that just deadfaces for me. Plus, her hair looks enough like Saige's that it's not the vibrant red I prefer. And honestly? I really want a lazer-eyed Felicity from ebay. Still looking for the right one! But yeah, any other mold would have been a buy for me. You lose this one, Mattel!
Isabelle's Pretty Pretty Princess dress: I just see Circus whenever I see this. Looks like she should be on the trapeze or riding an elephant. Which would normally be a good thing, but it still just reads Barbie genericness. I think this is the most overpriced of the new outfits, myself, but maybe it looks better in person. Shoes look insanely cheap, though, I guess to comp for the hair thing.
Makeup set: $20, maybe, $36, hells to the naw. Cute, but not nearly enough accessories to justify it. Do love that little tube of lipgloss, though.
Coconut Cutie outfit: Love the shirt, even though I hate that stupid geek glasses trend, but as we said, weak to their pet designs. I seem to be in the minority of hating that skirt. I severely dislike the use of tutus as everyday clothes and that's what this reads to me. It seems to be like it should have been in Isabelle's collection instead as a mix-and-match. LOVE the shoes, though and am glad to see if they're going to insist on those dumb flats, that they're at least trying to change them up enough with patterned fabric or and interesting decor. So 2/3=want, but $30 seems a little high for just three pieces.
Starry Hoodie outfit-One of those that I love the separates of, but not as a whole. Which is weird, since I don't hate that hoodie until I see it on the doll. I think if it was a bolder purple? They seem to have stumbled on one of the few turquioise/purple combos that DON'T look good together. Want the star pants very much though, and once again appreciate at least a little differentiation in the flats. Sparkles! Still clash with the purple!
Oh and the headband. Gee, how did I forget that? Oh yeah, it has NOTHING to do with the flipping outfit. And who's bright idea was it to put on one of the blondes so that it absolutely disappears in the picture??
School stripes dress-Too young-looking. I can see this being cute on a 5-7 year old, but not 10-12. But I love those flipping shoes like so so much. ;_; Why couldn't they have been with the starry oufit?!
Bright stripes outfit-And now we have the reverse of the starry outfit. I hate the elements on their own, but then love them when I see them on the doll. Is it because it looks like geeky, semi-professional wear? Or because I like a jeans and suit jacket combo? Just happy to have pants? The world may never know. I do believe that I would dislike it more seeing it head-on since that shirt is hideous and clashy and we would promptly be finding another tee to put underneath. Although at least it came with one. *shakes fist at photographer's outfit (which isn't even that bad except that coat is SO TIGHT, I can't even find anything else to put under it >_<)* And I don't like the heart-barf shoes.
Petal's PJs-Somehow interesting elements come together to make infinite boring-ness. I don't know if I'm just tired of that same shade of blue they use for so much of the clothes it seems. And I like turquoise! And then yeah if you focus on the pants, it's seizure city. But the slippers are hella-cute and I'm glad they're branching out from the standard open-toe sandal looking ones.

Date: 2014-06-27 07:45 pm (UTC)Cheerleading-Has never done anything for me and continues to fail to do so. Except for pompoms. Those always get a win.
Skateboarding oufit-There's that blue again! I like the old one much, much more. And have no interest in the skateboard prop so putting that into the price point makes this an autofail. For all the talk of the camping outfit, I'm wondering who goes skateboarding in a cowl-necked sweater dress. Once again though, love the shoes. Jerks. ;_;
Karate oufit-Ho shit, nevermind I forgot, THIS is the most overpriced of the lot! NO SHOES. That cushion is NOT worth an extra $10-15 dollars. The cut of karate uniforms is extremely simple and the sash is just an undecorated strip of black cloth. WHY IS THIS ALMOST $40!?
Camping outfit-Even when I separate this from the fact that it's utterly ridiculous that this is any kind of outdoor outfit aside from the shorts, it's still ugly to me. Even if it's supposed to be a tank strap, it reads bra strap hanging out to me, which I really don't want to see on little girls. I hate just 4 or 5 floaty sequins on things and the boots are fug city. And I hate those skinny belts. Haaaaate!
Bee costume-Cuuuuute. Don't have much of a need now, but will definitely grab it if it shows up on sale. I think even the dress on it's own over black leggings or tights would make a cute casual outfit.

If I've never said it before, I adore your reactions to the AG posts. :D More comments when I'm not supposed to be asleep.

Date: 2014-07-09 02:12 pm (UTC)I haven't been happy there for some time but I was willing to tough it out because I need the paycheck and the health insurance. But for some reason the past couple of weeks had gotten super stressful and I started making dumb mistakes. Nothing earth shattering, but dumb and avoidable. These mistakes were harped on by my boss, blowing them way out of proportion, which made me self-conscious and insecure, which led to making even more dumb mistakes. A client got angry with one mistake and Cristi blamed me for a failed payment from another (she said I inputted the check incorrectly and that's why the payment didn't post, so she took the check cashing responsibility away from me as punishment). Turns out the check didn't post because the dude had no money in his account - it was a bad check. Not my fault at all! But no apology was ever received for that. Anyway, I just couldn't handle it anymore - being blamed for everything that went wrong, having my responsibilities taken away from me, etc. It felt too much like my last job where my boss did exactly that in an effort to force me out because she felt threatened by me. So I gave my notice, but I do feel like I was manipulated into it and that irritates me. My job hunt is going decently well though. I've had one phone interview and have another scheduled for tomorrow, and I have several applications/resumes out at other promising places. It will probably take a few weeks at least to find something new but I remain hopeful.
