Addy and Sam
Aug. 28th, 2014 01:20 pmOkay, the other post got to be too unwieldy so our last two get their own.

Addy time!

Addy and her accessories.

Addy's Accessories
Item# BKF23 // $24
When Addy goes out walking in Philadelphia, she always makes sure to bring her favorite accessories:
A bonnet with a black-and-white gingham ribbon
A patchwork-print bag
A faux cowrie shell necklace brought from Africa by her great-grandmother
Aww, Addy got purse! I wish the accessory sets had more (like the coins of say, yesterday) but I'm glad AG didn't jack the prices up when they cut stuff.

Addy's Outfit
Item# BKF22 // $36
Addy adores this beautiful blue dress—the first dress she ever owned after she and Momma took their freedom! This authentic 1864 outfit features:
A royal-blue print dress trimmed with black ribbon and black bows atop the short bell sleeves
Lacy white pantalettes
Soft white stockings
Black boots with shiny black pretend buttons up the side
Why yes, this is sitting in my shopping bag waiting for me to finish making up my mind on other things. I love Cecile's very similar dress and I think this shade of blue is gorgeous soooo... yup. Also, boots!

Addy's School Outfit
Item# BKF79 // $34
Momma made this beautiful outfit for Addy’s spelling bee at school. It includes:
A sky-blue peplum jacket with bell sleeves and a white Peter Pan collar
A bell skirt with black trim to match the jacket
A pair of matching black velvet ribbons on hair combs
Sweet merciful Zeus, this is my favorite outfit out of the entire BF bunch. I wanted Addy's original School outfit something fierce but it disappeared while I wasn't paying attention all that closely to AG. The color on this is just, egads, Brain. The bows! I love it, I love it, I love it. I hope I don't love it so much that the actual outfit can't live up to expectations.

Addy inherited the NOLA girls' Crinoline and Chemise for $24. AG, you're weird for this. o_O

Addy's Lunch Pail
Item# BKF81 // $28
Momma packs Addy a special lunch for school, including:
A pretend bunch of juicy grapes
A make-believe meat pie
A pretend cookie that spells out “LOVE”
A pretty checked napkin to spread out under her meal
A metal pail with a removable lid to carry it all
I'll be getting this one day because I am a sucker for the LOVE cookie. Also, it's just a pretty set.

Addy mini.

Addy's Inspired By dress seems awfully short, too. Pretty, though.
Addy has four items, not including the girl's nightgown, in the Danger Zone.
And now...

Miss Samantha Parkington.

(shown with accessories)
Samantha™ Doll & Paperback Book $115
Samantha Parkington is kind, generous, and always ready to make a new friend. She has sparkling brown eyes that open and close and long, glossy brown curls. She comes in an authentic 1904 outfit:
A petal-pink dress with a layer of sheer dotted mesh on top, a lace hem and collar, short puff sleeves, and a burgundy velvet sash
White tights
White bloomers
Black Mary Jane shoes
A burgundy ribbon for her hair
The 18" Samantha doll has a huggable cloth body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. Includes the paperback book Manners and Mischief, the first novel-length volume of Samantha’s classic series.

Saaaaaaaaaaaaam! What'd you do to your hair? Where are your fluffy curls? D: But you are standing all sassy like, so that's very book!Sam.

Samantha's Outfit for those (like me) who are bypassing the doll and just want the stuff. I figured Sam the doll is new so she got the doll blurb rather than her outfit blurb.

Samantha's Accessories
Item# BKD31 // $24
When Samantha is out and about, she always brings her favorite accessories:
A golden locket necklace that she keeps close to her heart
A lace headband featuring a pretty two-tone flower with pearly accents at the center
A velvet burgundy purse on a golden chain, just in case she walks by Mr. Carruthers’ Candy Shop—or a friend in need
I will buy this because Sam needs her locket, even if it's not the locket I grew up with.

Samantha's Frilly Frock
Item# BKD37 // $36
Samantha wears this fancy finery when she goes to an elegant ice cream parlor in New York City. It includes:
A shimmery satin dress with a fashionable dropped waist and a three-tiered skirt—it’s trimmed with rows of intricate lace and has a dramatic lavender bow on its sash
White tights
Spiffy lavender boots with bows and pearly buttons
A big lavender hairbow
I'm dying here because a crapton of people wanted Samantha's new collection to be less 1904 by way of the 1980's. This is a whole 'nother layer of 80's thrown on top! Dyiiiiiiiiing. I want it just for it's weirdness, truthfully. My Sam would never be able to wear the best part (the shoes) so someone else will step up. I'm only not crying over never getting this dress because of my cackling over the Inception level of 80'sness going on here, truthfully.

Samantha's Bicycling Outfit
Item# BKD33 // $34
Proper young ladies wore dresses in Samantha’s day—except when they rode bicycles! Samantha loves the freedom of this outfit, which includes:
Houndstooth-checked bloomers
A pretty white eyelet blouse with long puffed sleeves
A wide straw hat with a grosgrain ribbon
Removable gaiters to help keep her legs from getting dirty
A pink hairbow to pull back her long locks
This one stumps me. I do not look at that blouse and see 1904. I definitely see Julie's era moreso than anything else. Don't mind me, I'll be sitting over here, counting the number of eras that Sam is going to time travel through before we hit something that pings her era for me.

Samantha's Nightgown
Item# BKD39 // $24
When the sun sets in Mount Bedford, Samantha slips on this sweet set:
A princess-seamed nightie featuring a pretty lace yoke threaded with pink satin ribbon—it’s trimmed with buttons and has a wide ruffle at the bottom
Light-pink mule slippers, which have dark-pink trim and fluffy white pom-poms on the toes
I hate the shoes (although on their own they look cute) but that's because AG pom-poms tend to look stupid in person. This one is growing on me and it's a nice counter to her original nightgown which is far too warm for her living with me.

Samantha's Fancy Coat Set
Item# BKD35 // $34
Samantha feels like a sophisticated city girl in this set, which includes:
A warm, soft coat with a drop waist, smart black buttons on the side, and a velvet bow on the waistband
A cozy velvet hat, which has fancy faux-fur trim to match the coat’s collar
Dainty white gloves
I like this more than I thought I would but I'm still not sold.

Samantha's Hairstyling Set
Item# BKD47 // $22
Your girl can smarten up Samantha’s hairstyle with this set:
A faux-silver brush modeled on real antique brushes from the early 1900s
A pretty pink-and-white striped bow
A boater hat with a pretty rosette
Eventually, Samsam. Eventually. It's somehow nice and annoying how much they're making the outfits match everything.

Samantha's Ice Cream Parlor
Item# BKD53 // $300
Scoop up some scrumptious fun! Fancy, mirror-lined ice cream parlors were popular in 1904—like Tyson’s, the parlor that Samantha visits in New York City. This wonderfully detailed set will inspire hours of imaginative play. It includes:
Two beautiful faux-marble counters with pink countertops that provide plenty of workspace; the front counter is for serving customers, while the back counter has an attached mirror with golden details and decorative columns, along with ice cream bins with removable lids
A pink faux-marble soda fountain, featuring three shiny fountainheads with levers that really move and a “stained-glass” lamp on top that really lights up
Nine scoops of pretend ice cream—chocolate, strawberry, and mint—that can be served in the pair of cones, bowls, or glass cups with shiny cup holders
A metal ice cream scooper with a pretend heart-shaped “key” that would have helped twist the ice cream out
A pretty pink chair
An ornate metal old-time cash register with buttons and a drawer that opens
A sign listing menu items
A candy jar with a removable lid
Two spoons, two lacy napkins, and a menu
Now I want ice cream. ($300, no. I'm crazy but I do draw the line somewhere, folks.)

Samantha's Bicycle
Item# BKD51 // $115
Samantha is rolling toward adventure on her shiny new bicycle—a gift from Uncle Gard! This set includes:
A deep-pink bicycle with white accents and tires, a stamped floral chain guard, and a faux-leather seat
A woven basket
A pretty bouquet of flowers tied with a satin ribbon for Samantha to carry in the basket
*arches one eyebrow* $115? Oh, thank the lord I'm not a completionist for this girl.

Samantha's Bed & Bedding
Item# BKD49 // $150
Samantha thinks this bed is fit for a princess. The set includes:
A white wooden bed with fancy flowers and faux caning details
A luxurious canopy that drapes over the extra-tall headboard
A pretty white bedspread with floral embroidery and lace trim
A round bolster pillow with button accents
A satiny pink mattress and pillow
I prefer Sam's brass bed and also, geez. The ghost of NOLA is everywhere, huh?

Too easy.

Samantha's Bedtime Accessories
Item# BKD45 // $44
Samantha keeps some special treasures by her bed to help her fall asleep:
An album full of mementos—it has a pretty floral cover and includes reproductions of real postcards from New York and Paris from the early 20th century, as well as pieces of art from her era
A music box that Uncle Gard gave her; it really works and plays a pretty lullaby by Mozart
A miniature version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz—first published in 1900, this book still enchants young girls today!
Her beloved teddy bear—named after President “Teddy” Roosevelt, teddy bears were very popular in 1904
I'm kind of surprised they didn't make a piece of furniture to house these things "by her bed." I'll be caving on this as it's a lot of things I really liked from her previous collection tied up together.

Jip is supposed to be a Cocker Spaniel. Instead, I say for $22, you can have your very own plush version of Destiny from Mongrels. (Which is not to be taken as a recommendation to watch it. No, it is most certainly not that.)

Sam's Inspired By outfit is another I wouldn't have pegged as hers if I hadn't seen her new Meet outfit.

Sam's Inspired By... PJs.

Sam's mini proves that the classic mold does not shrink down well. o_O
And finally... we come to the outfit I was most anxiously awaiting.

Samantha's Holiday Set
Item# BKD41 // $64
SONOFAGODDAMNBITCH, are you KIDDING ME? The one Samantha outfit I wanted pretty much sight unseen is the one bundled with half a goddamned tea set? ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Samantha can’t wait for the holidays to arrive! She’ll look smart for a special teatime with this set:
A scarlet-and-black plaid taffeta dress with a lace collar and yoke, black velvet sash, and crisp white cuffs
Black tights
Black velvet boots trimmed with bows
A lace hairbow
A silver-tone tea tray
A ceramic teacup and matching saucer
A beautiful teapot with floral accents
Samantha’s favorite treats, dainty faux petits fours with holiday icing
Who the hell doesn't include a second tea cup so you can have tea with your doll, AG? Who? Because I would bloody well think a goddamned DOLL COMPANY would have fucking figured that out after 28 years!
I get why you bundled this (because you're greedy bastards) but... would a second teacup have killed you?
Jesus Christ, AG. I asked you for one thing. You had one job, dammit!

Addy time!

Addy and her accessories.

Date: 2014-08-29 11:42 am (UTC)Woo for the school dress love! It's so pretty and I just made my order this morning (If you're ordering online there are $10 off $100 purchase codes floating around.) and included it instead of Sam's holiday combo of evil.

I keep trying to make sense of nu!Sam and it keeps not making sense. I'm wondering how much better things are in person and how much more eye-searing.
