Love for The Middle
Feb. 22nd, 2015 06:12 pmAnyone else watch The Middle? I've been watching as they become available on ABC Family's lineup and we've finally cycled back to the one that made me realize I could love this show.
"Spring Cleaning" is pretty much the story of my life. The Hecks get called home early from their actual vacation when a neighbor brings their mail inside and sees that the house has been ransacked. She assumes it's a robbery and calls the cops as well as the Hecks who arrive home and realize that nope, that's just their house.
They then spend the rest of vacation trying to clean the house up only to watch it become worse and worse, no matter how much stuff they do manage to rid themselves of. It ends with the cops bringing back all the stuff they'd managed to donate to charity.
Yeah, I caught this for the first time when we'd moved into the last place and our landlady was freaking out because we weren't magically unpacked two days in.
I love that there's no magical music montage where the chores get done and everything is done by lunchtime at the latest. Nope, this thing rages for days and everyone is just as grumpy as they would be in reality. I love that Sue can't part with her curlers because they have feelings (they're not alive but they have feelings) until her mother points out that if Sue gives them to charity, someone else will find them and use them to better their life, so in reality she's just setting them free to do bigger and better things. Because I'm one of those people who gives inanimate objects feelings, no matter how stupid I know it is on any level.
Basically, if you want a show that feels pretty realistic, The Middle might be for you.
Also, I should probably double down on getting rid of a few more things when I feel better.
