Oh, look. Three weeks or so after taking the pictures, I might actually be sharing them. Well, maybe it was only two weeks. I dunno, the ick ate some braincells during its stay. These aren't exactly review-reviews, because I was kinda out of it when taking the pictures, but it's enough to give you an idea of what you're getting yourself into, maybe? And I believe all the LE sets are currently on sale* so this might help you save some money, too.
We begin with Ivy because she's my favorite.

Take it alllllllllllll in. The rainbow of colors, the socks that date this thing (well, combined with the shorts, I suppose), the bright shoes. Oh yeah, this is a riot of color. And I love everything about it. Every. Single. Thing.

I mean, look at how cute Ivy is in it. Seriously, Julie? This is totally Ivy's. She got a rainbow romper, so really, she deserves this rainbow of awesome.

The shirt Velcros up the back, the shorts shimmy on, and if you need to be told how to work socks...

Here's the shirt decal without the flash doing weird things to it. Nope, that rainbow effect is all intentional. The red here looks orange but I assure you that is most decidedly red in reality.

I am not entirely sure I didn't have shorts like this in the 80's. Rainbow stripe down the sides and all. The stripe is on both the left and right leg for maximum awesomeness. The shorts are a fun blue... whatever material that is (I dunno, fabrics aren't my thing). It's silky and it'll come to me later because it feels like it should be obvious.

Socks and shoes. The socks are knee length but after awhile I can't be bothered getting them exactly the same height. Sorry. Red and yellow striped at the knees. They're socks. Enh. The shoes are pretty cute in all their blue glory. They slip on so I didn't have to worry about messing with the laces.

See? Cute!

Sorry, nothing with the skateboard because Ozma was a little too interested in what was going on. Cat on wheels? Thank you but no.
Overall, I'd give Julie's Skateboarding Set a solid A+ for the sale price ($38 instead of $48). You get an accessory (the board), socks, shoes, and a complete outfit. No hair things but really, you've got elastics elsewhere or, if it's for Ivy, you don't need them. I really do recommend this if you've got your eye on it. I think it's the happiest outfit of the bunch. :D
Next, Samantha's Traveling Coat and Hat and her Special Day Dress, both of which are on sale.

I did not buy Samantha's LE flower picking dress that was apparently made for wearing under this coat, so you must make due with the Special Day dress. Sorry? I don't think it's really a pair that's meant to go together but I wasn't buying that LE dress just to wear under a coat. For the sale price, I would have bitten if Caroline wasn't on the chopping block.
Anyway, onto the coat and hat. They go rather nicely with the shoes from the SD set, so that's nice. I'd imagine that if you have her original travel coat, you wouldn't need this (it's longer and a cream color, I think, but I don't own it so...) but I really fell in love with the look of the coat on the catalog. Enough that I might one day buy that dress... just for the coat. Oi. I digress.
The coat is a very, very vivid pink. There is no question about whether this is pink or not, and I'm okay with that. I think nu!Samantha looks stunning in pink. Old Samantha? Enh. I don't recall if I tried the coat on my Sam, but it wouldn't make a huge difference because she wasn't getting the SD set anyway.

You would think something so pink would be too much for me, but I really like it. I can't explain it, but there you go. I think it's just a really nice piece.

The buttons really, obviously, work to close the coat and they match the flowers in the hat. The pinks don't clash which is nice.

I think I might find a way to lay this flat or hang it to keep that wrinkle at the top from being a permanent thing, but here's the back. You can see the ribbon on the hat goes all the way around and is nice and glossy.

Inside of the coat. Ooh. Ahh.

More ooh, possibly less ahh.

This shows how far the shiny awesome pink goes and also that my nails that day were coordinating with Sam's coat. Huzzah!

Without the hat. I don't know why I spent quite so much time on the coat and none on the hat, but the hat definitely completes the look. For $25 (sale price), I'd say it's much closer to worth it than the original $32. The coat is nice to handle (no weird fabric choices) and no velcro to worry about snagging anything.

Now we move on to the shoes from the SD set. They're simple but the color is unusual. I don't actually love the color with the dress, but I do love it with the coat.

I apparently didn't get a full shot of this. Sorry. I love everything about this dress aside from the sleeves. The weird bell-ish shape is just not for me. History, why so unusual? And the belted bow is a little wonky. I'll blame that on the sick.

From the back. See? Pretty, even with failure to bow properly!

Closer inspection of the fabric.

Some people claim this is a blue dress. These people are not to be trusted. This dress is green. Mint friggin' green, just like Miss Parkington's favorite ice cream, and if you say otherwise you will get smacked. GREEN.
I did not include the droopy, loopy bow because it funked up Grace's hair trying to slide it on. It's a headband (fabric, not structured) and you don't tie it, which makes sense with those loops. I guess. It's just really tight and if you're particular about hair? You're gonna hate trying to wrestle it on. I tried and tried and it just never worked out, so Grace isn't wearing it.
Now, why Grace? Because this dress is many shades of lovely, but it did my PC Samantha no favors. :( It washed her out and was just not cute. It did fit, so if you've got an older doll, this dress isn't necessarily a no-go on fit. At $25 on sale, I'd definitely suggest buying it. You get a hair bow that you may have better luck with, a gorgeous dress that is pretty unique as far as AG outfits (the color alone, I can only think of one other similar dress and that's Molly's long retired Victory Garden dress), stockings, and shoes. Thumbs up for that price and I don't really mind having spent the money on it at full price, either.
Addy's Sewing Set was actually the one I took last and by then I was really in a fog so... I'm sorry. This is one of those sets most people seem to know instinctively whether they want or not, though, so I don't feel that bad.

The outfit and its goodies at play. Yes, Leia is holding the pincushion by herself and yes, the pockets on the apron are functional.

Pins are clumped and glued in, plus they're plastic, and the Peep-esque bird is flocked for all your so-soft pony needs.

Boots Velcro up the back, so no need to worry about mucking up the laces.

The apron goes rather nicely with the dress but I'm not sure how well it'll go with any of her other outfits. I wish I'd taken a picture of the dress without the apron but... it's such a pretty apron!

Purple trimmed everywhere, really.

Plastic scissors and a little fabric measuring tape help Addy help her Mama.
For $38 (sale), I think this is definitely something to consider. The colors are bright and vivid, and while they don't scream 1864 to me, I'm not a historian so I don't know about their accuracy. I do think that like her blue kite flying/flower picking dress that this one could transcend time. A lot of Addy's outfits do that, actually.
Last LE of the bunch is Kit's Chicken Keeping Set. I don't have Kit so you get another appearance by Grace.

Chicken is lacking in feet and realism. That's okay by me. When Garnet gets here, Chicken will be sitting on Garnet's back for maximum laughter.

Chicken is judging me.

Judging.

Close-up of the buttons on the overalls. Pink.

Bonus shot where Grace's eyes look dark blue.

Look, ma, no socks.

Bit of a heel.

This is where my love for this outfit dies. See that one button? Do you know where this is?

On her butt. When she sits, she will be sitting on a button. Are you kidding me, AG? It looks uncomfortable and I don't care if it's the most historically accurate thing on earth (no idea if it is), I don't like looking at it. I don't like knowing that's there. It irrationally colors my entire view of this whole outfit. Also, this is a most unflattering angle. Sorry, Gracie.

Cute headband slides on and it took a bit of fiddling but I got it. Again, no tying required.

The shirt's fabric. I love it.

Really, it's a cute look for her. You'll notice that her braid was taken out, too. It didn't survive the round with Samantha's droopy loopy bow.
Overall, for Kit's outfit, I'd say that if you can get over button-butt and you're interested, it's actually very pretty in person. I'm sorry I didn't capture it fully, but the colors look really lovely together and the teal on the overalls is a thing of beauty. The fabric choices are thick without being bulky, and if I hadn't been sick and been able to properly criss-cross the straps we wouldn't have the unflattering shot from behind. We would, however, still have button butt. Today's goal might be to cross the straps properly.
So for $38 on sale? Yeah, you could do worse. It's the first of Kit's new outfits that doesn't feel like a rip-off (her new Meet) or isn't eye-searingly ugly.
When Ruthie tires of wearing the blue holiday dress, she will be claiming this.

Gracie and Leia hang out.

Ozma would like to know where you think you're going because in a bit we'll review the Winter White outfit and show off Hannah for funsies.
(About two seconds after I took this picture, she climbed onto my head.)
Yes, bonus cat shot included.
*- I'm pissed. If I'd waited, I'd have saved $44. And I'm sick of these high and mighty wenches saying, "Well, you shoulda known AG would put them on sale... *finger wag*" No, bitch, I shouldn't have known that because the only time AG has turned around and less than a month later put historical stuff on sale was the motherfucking NOLA line that never recovered from that sale. Everything else waited longer. And don't trot out the Easter argument either because you know what they've put on sale for the Easter sales in the past? The modern stuff. Which is why I didn't buy the dreamsicle dress because I figured it would go on sale (it did). I had no reason to expect that AG would knock 20% off less than a month into this release. So sit down and kindly shut the fuck up or hand over the $44 as my annoyance tax.

Date: 2015-03-18 01:26 am (UTC)Sam's coat is to die for! :D I wish they made it in adult human sizes because I'd SO get it. Even if it was loud/shockingly pink. YES.
Addy's dress is just as gorgeous as promised in the promo pics - THAT BLUE OMG.
I somehow doubt that button-butt is historically accurate to the 1930s, but what do I know?
And BONUS CAT PIC, YES YES YES!!! I just love these posts ♥

Date: 2015-03-19 09:02 pm (UTC)Aha! I thought you'd expressed your love for Sam's coat when I did my first round up, but I was too lazy to go back and check. Clearly we need an option on these outfits that says, "Adult size, please" so that someone, somewhere, will know there's interest.
Addy continues to win BeForever. I'd say without trying but that's selling the poor girl short.
*snicker* Yeah, I'm doubting the historical accuracy of sitting on a button when you wouldn't have to but it vexes me so that no one else is like, "Dude. This just looks painful."
Ozma appreciates the love. :D At least I assume that's why she purred and then bit me randomly.
