Is it time for a makeup post? I think it's time for a makeup post. Last night I got to do one of my favorite things and de-box the cos displays. I didn't get to do the huge ones that are waiting for April or at least a space to be found to put them out, but I did get to do the smaller ones.
There wasn't a lot to write home about. Some new L'Oreal face cream in a travel/trial size, a re-release (?) of a purple Essie polish "born in 2012," and a Covergirl display that sings for Pitch Perfect 2. However, there was a Maybelline display (two actually) that I was most curious about. One was not relevant to this post as I cannot recall it. The other was a display of new mascara. So new that my Google-fu has failed me.
Lash Sensational: Black Pearl. It keeps mentioning black pearl this, black pearl that. I'm not sure why this is a selling point but when Google failed me, I decided I'd give it a whirl at Buy One, Get One 50%. If I'd grabbed a more expensive second item, I would have hit the Spend $15, get 3,000 points threshold, but I didn't so meh.
Naturally I promptly tried it at home before conking out for the day. Application was nothing of interest. It was a little more wet than the stuff I'm used (as in it took longer to dry, so accidentally rubbing my eyes a little too early was a bit of an easily cleaned up mess) to but it didn't clump terribly and the mess I mentioned wiped right off without Q-tips or anything. I didn't/don't do numerous layers to build up my mascara because I have such pale lashes that I start to freak out when they're super visible and I'm like, "what is that black line? Oh, yeah..." :P
It didn't smudge during sleep and I don't want to hear how sleeping in mascara is bad for you because honestly, sometimes sleeping in eye makeup is the best look ever upon waking. Sometimes not so much.
And my other make-upy thoughts: Found the Spring LE Wet n Wild polishes at work a couple of weeks ago. I bought three and tried one out last weekend. Warm Filter was a bust. The color looked awful on me, it was a weird mix of streaky and clumpy and just not the awesome formula I expect from my WnW polishes. :( But occasionally colors are like that and I couldn't hold the color itself against them because some colors just don't flatter me. I'm pretty pale without hitting that ethereal pale that makes even the most improbable colors look good. Unfortunately for WnW, when I got to work this week, the co-worker who bought the same color had the same problem except the color probably worked better on her.
I then tried the green one for St. Patrick's Day and it too had similar application issues. I liked the color better but it was still a mess to put on. :(
I still have the blue shade but I think this collection is a bust for me. Sigh. It's a shame because normally I love Wet n Wild polishes but this? This is just a mess.

Date: 2015-03-22 01:39 am (UTC)Hmm, I hadn't heard that Maybelline had put out a new mascara, but that's not unusual. Apparently Cover Girl dropped the Lip Lavas without any advanced notice and those turned into something of a hit.
I haven't seen any of the new spring displays in person yet, but that sucks to hear the WnW collection may be a bust :( Those colors are right up my alley. I haven't seen any reviews on it which is kinda unusual, and everybody was raving about the shadows. Hmm...

Date: 2015-03-22 11:01 am (UTC)I'm debating trying the blue one today to see if it manages to be awesome unlike its collection buddies. Oh, WnW stuff (I don't think nails are included) is buy one, get one halfsies plus points this week. There is also at least one little side panel display for April with Fergie on it, but it's the little 99 cent shadows and the new bottles of polish, however there's something covering up the price so April may bring a WnW sale, too.
