Charmed Challenge, Day 2
Apr. 12th, 2015 03:54 pm2. Your Least Favorite Season
Oh, geez. This is a tough call because some of the later seasons suuuuuuuuuuck. It always baffles me how people love anything after season six unless they're in it for a specific actor/actress, or a character that doesn't show up until then.
Anyway, I thought long and hard about this and I'm going with Season 8. While I get that Holly/Alyssa/Rose wanted to step back and the show accommodated them with the adding of Billie, Kern (my nemesis!) went completely overboard as usual. Billie could have been a very interesting character... and on paper, she is. But having to watch, week after week, as she continued to do stupid thing after stupid thing, obsessing over her sister even when it made no sense to have her not wait five seconds to act on any thought that hopped into her brain?
Yeaaaaaaah. It was torture. There's a reason the Piper assaulting Billie gif is so popular, and it's not because "cat fight!"
But even if I manage to move past that, we hit the part that really cheesed me off. For years, YEARS (and T.S. can back me up on this) I'd been hoping/bitching/praying for the Charmed Ones to get a female big bad. And all signs were pointing to us getting one! I mean, there was no way Christy was going to be kept by demons all that time and not be an evil force to be reckoned with, okay? The only person who didn't realize that was Billie.
Annnnnd then the pacing was all fucked up, but this show. This show. That wasn't even the worst part. Nope, we've got some boring ass dude pulling the strings and does so right up until things have no possible chance of being what I'd hoped for and for this, this I give to you Season 8 as my least favorite because it showcases my least favorite thing about the show in general:
So Billie and Christy got to be the big bad, but they were at the mercy of the most boring dude ever. So boring I cannot even remember his name, just his punchable face.
Just thinking about how awesome things could have been and all that potential wasted still pisses me off and it's been damn near ten years. (Holy hell, it's been ten years since S8 premiered.)
Oh, and the series ends with a nod to Prue but do they utter her name? Nope. Can't do that.

When given the chance to have a woman be the star of her own story, twisted or otherwise, Brad Kern always, always, ALWAYS chose to make it about the man in her life instead.

Date: 2015-04-29 03:09 pm (UTC)On a related topic - where did you get all your Charmed gifs? I think I'll need to start up a collection for this challenge. :D

Date: 2015-04-30 04:16 pm (UTC)And Charmed gifs are usually found in the Charmed tag on tumblr. I may have started following a few people based on their pretty, pretty Charmed graphics alone.

Date: 2015-04-30 06:27 pm (UTC)I was looking through the prompt list again and rearranging a couple of the positions but I actually think I need to finish my rewatch before attempting this since I am so fuzzy on later seasons.
