Disney Descendants: Promo Picture-Palooza
Jun. 19th, 2015 07:25 amSooooooo... already did the Descendant's Amazon link post... However, I like to have the pictures handy for when links no longer work, so I figured I'd post a few of each and blather on about them because it's what I do.
In general, I'm cautiously hopeful about the line. I want to like the dolls I've ordered and I want to want more. That said, when the promo pictures make the doll hair look like a hot mess, it does not inspire any confidence in me that we're not going to end up with Bratz hair. And not the good kind, we're talking the kind that frizzes and does awful things if you so much as look at it funny. So... Bratz after the Mattel lawsuit battles, I guess? Or maybe Bratzillaz, didn't they have awful hair? I dunno, I never caved because the eye wonk was strong in that line.
Also, I'm dying that they include the shoes in the traditional accessories spot like the shoes are extra special accessories. Oh, Hasbro... you have so much to learn.
We're going in semi order of interest by type. So two packs will be together, sigs, and coronation dolls.
We begin with the Coronation dolls because in general I'm meh about them and at $25.99 (Amazon's price, so it could be lower when they appear elsewhere) I shouldn't be meh.
Coronation Audrey:

I'll be upfront about this. I found book!Audrey to be dullsville and I fear that instead of working on that or going full on EAH Royal with her, we're going to get meh. So initially I just handwaved her away because there are more interesting dolls to get to, y'know? But in the interest of fairness and having time to kill, I looked closer.
And she's actually really pretty, doll wise. If I get an Audrey, I think it'll be her because I love her accessories. I'm not sold on the dress (at all, really) but I love her bracelet and the shoes are cute and in general, she feels prettier to me. That said, she's not a priority for me at the moment.

Mal.
I waffled hardcore on the next three because there should be order in the chaos and order is not coming naturally here. Sigh. I went with Mal because I still think Evie is gonna be my baby of the line and I like Jane's Coronation version better than her sig.

I'm guessing Mal finds that she's not a villain and yet still likes purple but has shifted to a lighter shade or something, dunno. She's got some interesting accessories and she's cute, but she lacks the MUSTBUYNOW of her sig version. That said, I'll be keeping my eye on her price as time goes by and if there's a sale or the dolls happen to be awesome, she'll be coming home, probably.
Evie.

Evie loses the accessories challenge by a mile. Meh. MEH, I say. You can do better, sweetheart. That said, dude. Totally channeling the Evil Queen in some of these shots. Evie's photos seem to look like different dolls entirely from one shot to the next and it's weird. I waffle on this one because sometimes I look and think daaaaaaaaaaang and want and other times it's not a good kind of dang. :p If I like Evie as much as I think I will, I'll be going full on completist with her so her Coronation is likely to come home, too.

I do wonder how she'll actually turn out. Also, this is the only one of the three Evies to not look like she stuck her finger in a socket.
Jane.

Oh, Jane. I don't know what to do with you. Your fashion choices are borderline tragic, but then so is everyone's for the most part so I can't really hold that against you. Plus you have reddish/brownish/pinkish hair and freckles and you're just so hopeful looking. I feel like if you put Jane and Rochelle together, they would be able to talk you out of anything in the world because of the eyebrows.

I like CJ's outfit better than her Sig version and she's pretty darn adorable, so we'll see how she looks in reality.
Lonnie.

Oh my dolly gods, she's lovely. I'm just sad that apparently they funked up the way her outfits cross over. Dammit, Hasbro. I expect better from you and Disney.

But so pretty and it's possible that they'll fix things, I suppose.
In any case, I love her comb. :D
Two Packs: $29.99
Mal & Ben:

Did the promo department even try? Didn't we see these shots already? Meh. Ben is spectacularly bland and Mal is recycling shoes already. I wish I didn't like her outfit as much as I actually do, otherwise I wouldn't really be tempted by anothing other than the niggling suspicion that I could like Mal a lot.
Evie & Carlos:

Pre-ordered before I even finished thinking about it. Even with Evie's wild hair (wtf, Hasbro, you don't let people see that mess until after they've bought things and can't return them!) I had to pull the trigger. This is Evie's cutest look and I've come around to Carlos' look while really liking him as a character. (He might be the sanest person in the book.) I'm so looking forward to this set. :D
Signature: $21.99
Audrey:

Girl, what is on your head? I... don't even know. I like her dress and her bracelet but everything else isn't doing much for me. I imagine that in terms of going from meh to woo, this is the doll with the greatest chance of it because I'm pretty set on my "thank you, but no" reaction. Surprise me, Hasbro?
Jane:

Those ruffle sleeves are gonna eat your head, kiddo. Just say no. She's cute but she'd immediately need a new outfit because the bows are killing me.
Evie:

This pains me, but I don't love her sig outfit (I do love the doll) as much as her Date outfit sooooo.. she's knocked further down the list. She's gorgeous but the outfit isn't my favorite because the bottom half (the skirt and the tights) is so busy. But I'll be buying this for sure, even though holy crapmuffins are some of these shots painfully unflattering. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS, Hasbro? WHY? She looks like a mess right in the box! Who said this was the look to greenlight?

Jesus.

Much better, Love.
Lonnie:

Lonnie, again with the crossing over the wrong way and the oddly Japenese feel to a Chinese character. If we ignore that or hope that it's explained away because it totally could be, she's flat out beautiful. I love her to the point that if I were to cave and preorder one more, she'd be the one. She's gorgeous. In fact, she only lost out because...
Mal:

Mal has the best shoes in the line, hands down. LOOK AT THEM. I would overcome my inability to wear heels for those suckers, ok? I would practice day and night to be able to strut around in those. But it'll never happen so heels and I continue our long standing fued.
Mal's outfit is odd but she manages to pull off the look because, y'know, potential badass. I ordered her because of the three Mals, she's the best and I would be a sad, sad panda if I missed out or had to wait an insanely long time to get her.
