impyPardon me while I bang my head on my desk. Because it's new AG stuff day, I decided to do more than quickly pop in and see if there was a sale being mentioned on any of the boards. (I've actually been avoiding them all, mostly, and haven't been to one at all.) And for a bit, I was enjoying poking around threads and reading people's thoughts on the new stuff, or their intense dislike of evil!Lea (shut up and gimme your evil ones, I'm worried I'll get a nice one). And then... then I remembered why I'd mostly noped out of AG fandom for awhile.
As per usual, someone is lamenting the new direction of AG and how collections aren't what they used to be, sigh. Which is fair enough and pretty true, based on what BF has shown us. But then, then they go and step on a personal pet peeve landmine.
They bring up Caroline and her collection and how they didn't really buy much, but really liked it, and when it came time to add Caroline to their collection, they wanted Classic Caroline so they ebayed her.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Do you know the difference between Classic Caroline and BF Caroline? The box and the book. THAT'S IT, YOU FUCKING MORON. They didn't change her hair, her outfit, her eyes, her vinyl, or her underwear. THEY CHANGED NOTHING. But because you're so fucking stupid, you went ahead and ebayed something you could have/SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN direct from AG.
Why should you have gotten her directly from AG?
I'm glad you asked, non-ragey part of my brain. Unless you're in one of the countries AG does not ship to, or ships to but charges a spleen for, you should probably always buy currently available stuff directly from AG because AG only listens to sales. It's sad, but true. In this case, Caroline's old meet book is/was still very readily available and the box? The BF box was a fucking upgrade because you got the silhouette and that was awesome. Also, it probably cost about the same, k?

Caroline's collection is another twitchy subject for me, as is the NOLA stuff. And because I'm in full on rant, I'm gonna repeat myself.
Adult collectors of AG are NEVER going to get a line directed at them until they/we come together and actually buy the shit they do throw our way. As it is, the stuff that was more collector friendly failed MISERABLY. Caroline got the axe not because her doll didn't sell well, but because her collection didn't. So everyone shrieking about how lovely it was should have bought it, either when it was on sale (not counting the archival fever sale) or when there was free shipping. I get not buying the Parlor or the Skiff, because both were expensive items. But Caroline's accessories with her map to freedom? Fuck, man, that's classic PC-era accessorising. Buy it and support what you want more of, dumbfucks.
Cecile's fantastic desk? It went on sale a million times, so you couldn't even use the excuse you thought the regular price was too expensive because it was on sale for at least two weeks every season, dammit. Cecile's special dress (the red one) was gorgeous. MG's summer dress? Also gorgeous.
If you want AG to cater to your adult ass, then you gotta pony up and buy shit when it's very clearly meant more for you than for Sunny, the three year old whose mother just bought her her fifth 18 inch doll this week. Seriously. Buy what you want to see more of, it's a really easy concept.
