DC Superhero Girls, Book 1: Wonder Woman*
I was more excited for the books than I was for just about anything in this series aside from maybe the dolls, and even then it was a pretty close call. Why? Because I adore Lisa Yee and think she's fantastic. If you're not following her somewhere, you're missing out.
That said, my knowledge of DC lore isn't vast or deep or really anything approaching "knowledge" if one is being truthful. And I'm not sure if this helps or hurts with this particular franchise and not being the target age. :P
I liked the book well enough, but I didn't love it. It felt weirdly stuffed and awfully empty at the same time, and I think it's because the webisodes have been out for awhile and those same events are used in the book but since you saw them unfold on screen, you already know more than the book is telling you. Which is a weird occurrence as usually the book version of something will flesh it out more.
Harley is basically just wacky youtube and that's kind of... boring? I like that she's so excited about Wondy but that's about all she's up to this whole time.
Poison Ivy gets a little more depth, which is nice, and I adored the chapter where she and Wondy go around to all the various clubs. :) I liked what little we got to see of Batgirl and Lois Lane was a nice surprise. I also enjoyed the mystery of Mandy and while I solved the other mystery pretty early on, it wasn't one of those "oh glob, this is SO OBVIOUS" things because I wasn't sure how many people were involved or why.
I'm torn on how I feel about Wondy being played by Amelia Bedelia, but for all I know that's a thing that happens elsewhere. And I kind of enjoyed how blissfully unaware she was when it came to sarcasm or meanness so...
I enjoyed more than I didn't but I think Book One suffers from Book One syndrome where you have to cram all the rules in and everything kind of suffers. Treat it like you would the pilot episode to a show you know you'll like once things get going, I think. (Not to be confused with pilot episodes that are infinitely better than the show you wind up getting.)
Clearly not the actual title but I'm gonna go with it because I want to, dammit.
Yes, I gave up trying to get too wordy and just went with the basics. *shrug* Apparently we're getting a Sephora this month. Huzzah! But it's downtown. Boo. I mean, it's not unexpected that it would be downtown but still. Parking in the historic district is just a pain in my duff.
And I scored some Rimmel foundation at work for less than two bucks, tax included. Huzzah! Tomorrow I'm gonna give it a whirl.
I wish we had more delivery options around here aside from pizza and maybe Chinese. I miss Steak Out terribly. I mean, their actual steaks were kind of awful, but the tips and salads? Oooh, memories. When I worked at the gas station, I'm pretty sure on Sundays Cass and I would walk across the Christmas Tree lot (it didn't have them in the summer, obviously) and pick up our orders before walking home.
Sigh. I'm tired of pizza and Chinese is just expensive considering I like maybe two things.
New!Lea and my spring sale have been moved to arrive on the same day. Which is Wednesday. Lea, you're keeping me waiting which is evil. There may be hope for you yet...

Date: 2016-03-14 07:07 pm (UTC)I had very similar feelings on the book. Like the highlight for me was getting to see the less-used-in-the-webisodes characters interact more.
